We burst into laughter that they'd come to such a conclusion. This past weekend we visited again at my son's request. He'd been planning to return for his birthday meal and once again it didn't disappoint. This time I was able to capture pics before the food was devoured, the main meal that is. The appetizer of chips with salsa, guacamole and queso didn't last long. Once again we were pleased with our meal. The leftovers heated up well the next day and in fact, the short ribs were more flavorful than the day before. The queso was such a big hit that we had to order some for takeaway. I had such a great experience at Taco Mar the other night! The food was unbelievable and authentic Mexican. Everything was cooked perfectly! The chicken was savory and full of flavor, the refried beans were smooth and creamy, and the rice reminded me of my grandma's rice. The service was also amazing. The entire staff was very nice and accommodating! I'm not sure if we were being served by the owner or the manager, but he provided great service, and it was obvious that he cares about the customers and serving great food! This is the second time we have ordered from them and the second time it's just not it. Finally!!! Delicious Mexican food on the East Coast! We live in So Cal and travel to New England often. While we love our trips out... we miss Mexican Food when we come. How crazy that in CT, NJ, MA, NY, RI... in all those states we have yet to find tasty Mexican?! We were taking a day trip out to Phili from CT and heard about Taco Mar, so we extended the trip to be able to head out there. TOTALLY WORTH THE DRIVE!!! Everything tastes JUST. LIKE. HOME. We tried literally a little of everything... fish tacos, carne asada, barbacoa, octopus tacos, chips and guacamole, every salsa... just, wow. Fabulous flavor paired with incredible hospitality had us very impressed. My husband and I will definitely make this a standard stop whenever we are back east. The décor here is so fun and bright... and the artwork in the restrooms was a fun surprise! The salsa bar was perfectly clean- always a good sign- there's nothing grosser than globs of dried up salsa all over the salsa bar. We sat at the front bar looking out over Gay St- it was fun to see the hustle of down town! This is such a prime location! This was the first time I ordered from Taco Mar and it certainly will be the last. I ordered a SALAD BOWL via Door Dash and when my order came there was absolutely no lettuce to be found. I called to let them know that my order was missing that vital piece and was then handed over to another worker who proceeded to berate me over the phone. Her reasoning for my SALAD not having lettuce was because "some people don't want lettuce in their salad...." (ummm....then why even call it a SALAD!) and that I had to select "lettuce" in the "greens" section of the order form... except there were options for corn, cilantro, jalapeño's and tomatoes in the "greens" section... Does that mean if I pick cilantro that my salad will be on a bed of cilantro?! I tried to reason with her that their SALAD option should be more clear via the Door Dash app and she just didn't want to hear it, which was disappointing. After all of this she offered to make me a new salad WITH lettuce for free... but honestly, my reason for calling wasn't to get something free...it was to inform them of a mistake. Also, who wants to accept something free from a restaurant with terrible customer service. I work in hospitality and I couldn't even believe how terrible I was treated. You can totally color me surprised and impressed with Taco Mar!! As a California native I was hoping to find a place to take my gringo in-laws to introduce them to the beauty of Mexican food and knew it would be a tough find! As someone who loves authenticity and flavorful thoughtful dishes, I was totally satisfied. You can tell the staff takes pride in what they do there and everyone is good at what they do. We had excellent service and they were so accommodating to a family with two kids. The salsa was delicious with a mild and spicier choice along with Pico de Gallo. I will say that I wish they were served in a slightly larger quantity and in real bowls (this might be due to COVID that they serve in to-go containers). Chips were also seasoned nicely! I tried a corn tortilla quesadilla with carnitas, the Quesadilla Mexicana and it was BOMB!! Homemade corn tortillas make my heart sing, good quality cheese and tender, delicious carnitas *chefs kiss* They also accommodated my picky...er, particular, in laws! ;) my mother in law is not able to handle a lot of spice and seasoning and the owner (I believe he was the owner at least) was so kind and grilled her a flank steak with white rice. My father in law loves a hard shell ground beef taco and he cleaned his plate, so I'd say it was a success!! Guacamole was also fantastic and good quantities! The only other critique I might offer is that the taco portion of the menu might be confusing for people new to Mexican food, my father in law had difficulty understanding the differences between street tacos and the more simple hard shell ground beef he's used to. it would be useful to really outline what is offered as hard shell or soft, which meats can be paired with what etc. Overall just a lovely evening with great ambience and people! Food quality and preparation was great, but Taco Mar left a sour taste on the experience with undisclosed extra charges. I was fine with the 10% market price/COVID surcharge which was clearly displayed, but was not ok with getting charged extra for crema I didn't order and for extra pico and queso on a burrito bowl. The girl put a pitifully small amount in the burrito bowl, and charging extra without being told when there was a small amount given to begin with was quite petty. Chipotle and other places where you make your own bowl aren't stingy like that. I was also charged for a bottle of soda instead of a can. I had to request a printed receipt after being rung up since the charges didn't seem to add up. At the end of the day, the staff was friendly and the $2-4 extra I was overcharged isn't going to kill me, but petty billing practices basically killed their chances of earning repeat business from me in the future. read more

One of the foods I miss most from home are California Burritos (Carne Asada, French Fries, cheese, guacamole, crema and pico/salsa). Having nothing better to do, my wife and I drive the 45 minutes to pick up a burrito for me and some rolled tacos for her. Food was very good and exactly what it should have been for the price. I wish I had a chance to try more of their seafood entrees, but was unsure about their stability for takeout in the cold and car eatability. A+ for effort on COVID precautions, but B- for execution. They did a lot of things to try and keep customers safe from floor markings to plexiglass barriers at the checkout. They were a little disorganized for a busy Saturday night and it caught up with them. Working out the service kinks to be able to deliver high quality food with faster ticket times is an adjustment a lot of places are making as a they transition to full takeout. We were blown away by not only thee amaaaazing tacos (we tried the shrimp and also the baja tacos) but also the outstanding service! We now love this place! They even helped my sister with figuring out the best options for how her gluten sensitivities. The entire staff was just so pleasant, attentive, and accommodating! Particularly Danny and Tamer! There are a bunch of Mexican options in West Chester (and beyond), so I can't say this deserves to be lauded the way its Yelp reviews boast. If I were a hungover college kid, I might think this place was great. In retrospect, I find it a little odd that they have so many 5-star reviews. Not even Michelin star restaurants get so many stellar ratings. A little fishy to me. Food was just okay. Ingredients were fresh enough, but there was no amazing flavor, and portions were small for the price. The chips were low quality, as was the salsa. Service was teens-with-attitude. We were stared at when we walked in (no one else was there), then stared at while we went through the options as they made our burritos, and then stared at more while we paid. There were like 5 or 6 kids behind the counter; one working to make food, the rest staring. No one made any conversation, so the staring was extra weird in a completely silent / empty restaurant. I felt like we were interrupting their private party. It was that immature attitude of kids who want to be paid to sit on their phones rather than do their job, so we were being resented for interrupting slack-off time to give them business. With service like that, the tip jar on the counter was not appreciated. They're already charging more than competitors, for smaller portions, so it was extra annoying to be asked to tip for counter service. If I'd seen the restaurant.com offers before going, it would have taken the edge off the annoyance, but still, I probably wouldn't go back. Tons of El Limon locations around, and valuewise Limon is just far better. Limon's prices are cheaper, and portions are bigger. Ingredients at Limon appear to be higher quality too (one example, Limon's lettuce is deep green, not almost white). read more
