This was my first time ordering takeout from Taco Madre, and the ordering process itself was smooth and easy. The food was ready right on time for pickup, everything was packaged well, and it all looked fresh and appetizing when I got home. From a service and presentation standpoint, I really had no complaints and thought it was off to a great start. Unfortunately, the food itself was extremely underwhelming. Everything I tried lacked flavor, which was honestly surprising for Mexican food. The guac was bland, the pico de gallo was bland, the tacos were bland, and even the rice was bland. I ended up raiding my spice cabinet just to make it edible. Brought here by a friend. Nice selection of street taco flavors. Fish tacos had Mahi Mahi which was good quality. Carnitas was also good. Elote was quite salty and spicy, other than that, not much flavor. Horchata served in soda fountain system was ok, sweet but not much cinnamon flavor. Limeade (?) was also available at same fountain. MEH at best. Ordered online (super easy and fast) for in store pickup. Prices are TOO HIGH for what you get ($20 for 3 tacos and a side of rice) and for the quality and taste. I made a few modifications to ingredients on the tacos and when I opened the box there were NO ingredients on the tacos - just plain. I had to tell the staff what was supposed to come on the taco. The chicken tinga was so shredded it gave consistency of wet pet food! Not a good mouth feel. Better quality other places. Won't be back. Go somewhere else. read more

Yum! Ordered this as my final meal for my Illinois trip. We got it delivered and it was ready quick. I got a meatless burrito with guac and rice added. All of the guac ended up concentrated to one corner of the burrito, but it was still good. Also we got chips and salsa and the salsa was really warm temperature wise, but really good otherwise. Yellow corn tortillas were fresh, soft, & fluffy which is always a relief because not all corn tortillas are created equal. Chicken, steak, & veggies were tender & juicy. First time here or any of the locations. Looked at the menu and steak tacos are an up charge but steak burrito wasn't. Trying to watch my spending as lunches have been getting pricey lately so ordered the steak burrito. Size was a bit smaller than I expected but still big enough that I wasn't hungry after eating it. Steak was seasoned well and they weren't cheap on the cheese. Even better it was actual chihuahua cheese and not something cheap like many places use. Food aside the experience was definitely lacking a bit. The price seemed higher than I expected so I asked for a receipt and was handed one with no breakdown just a total. When I questioned it he printed another with detailed breakdown. When I asked why the menu board behind the cashier said $8.49 for a burrito pick your meat but was charged $9.99 he said those are old prices. About then a lady came over to help who said the prices were right but I was charged more because I ordered steak. She couldn't explain why no where on the menu did it say steak cost more than any other meat. At that point I just wanted to eat my food and leave as this clearly wasn't going to be resolved. When I got back to work I looked at their menu online and saw the same thing. Tacos show an up charge burritos do not. Then I attempted to place an online order where it finally list all the meats separately and steak is more money. However it's not the $9.99 I was charged it's $9.49 so I have no idea. At the end of the day it's not about $1 or even $1.50 but simply wanting to be charged the posted price. read more

Sauce isn't bad but could be way better, too sweet. Steak tacos should not be an up charge for what they are. Salty, no real flavor. Chills relleno taco was good but needed to be spicy. Or maybe that's the Hispanic in me. Guacamole lemony and average. Undercooked beans and rice. That's about it. Probably won't be back, but just maybe for that drink. I've enjoyed the nachos, the tacos (shout out to the Chile relleno taco!) but I've REALLY enjoyed the churros. Insanely sweet, arrive hot and still crispy, and served with a classic sweetened condensed milk for dipping, they are everything. They're so good that for my husband's bday this year, he just wanted two orders of these churros instead of a cake! I've been here a number of times. You get a basket of chips with your order and they have a variety of salsas to go with them. I had been to the location in Geneva, so I was excited to see this one pop up near the Binnys at Ogden and Royal St. George and brought a taco-loving friend along for dinner. We especially loved the Mayan, which included steak, avocado, pineapple, bacon, and chipotle mayo. Also we really liked the salty limey goodness that is elotes corn ($5 a cup is a bit steep though, especiallyfor a "street food", but we both ate from it). Staff was very acomodating and helpful, so that was nice. A star down because they won't let you customize the tacos (i.e. get without an ingredient). :/ still, my friend enjoyed the meal so much that he came back for lunch the next day! The space here is bigger than Geneva's; good, because they will surely be drawing a crowd.
