Came here on a date with my husband. I ordered a Strawberry Pineapple Margarita that was quite good, but my favorite part was that it was rimmed half with sugar and half with salty Tajin. I ordered 3 tacos: chicken Asada, carnitas, and firecracker shrimp. The shrimp one was delicious, although a little spicy, and I wish I had got all 3 of that variety. The chicken asada was meh and the carnitas not that great either. The tacos are kinda small for $5 each, and the Mexican street corn portion for $10 is pretty tiny. Our server was attentive. We've had our eye on this place for a couple months now and finally decided to check it out. After a family Sunday movie at AMC we pulled the trigger and decided to walk in. The place looks nice and well decorated but our service and food was not good at all. Unfortunately it wasn't a good experience because our server was always forgetting something. They brought us the wrong tacos, forgot our soft drink and forgot our birria dinner. We constantly had to remind her about our order. Our chip and salsa were not good our Shrimp tacos came out cold they forgot my dinner. SMH. For the price I expected this place to be top notch. Our server/bartender Shane was awesome! Devonte also helped and was great. We loved the thick chips and the house salsa--a nice balanced heat. I had a standard prickly pear marg, ordered esquités, and plantains. They accidentally brought out the Mac and cheese, but quickly traded it out. The plantains were maduros, if you're familiar, or fried sweet plantains, and they were perfectly sweet and fried. The esquités were nice and creamy--not super seasoned, but good with chips! The dessert was amazing for the brown sugar plantains, brownie crumbles, and banana ice cream alone. The brownie itself was just okay. I would have preferred the ice cream with more brown sugar plantains as an option, but still very good. The restaurant itself was also very clean, nice decor, and the service was above and beyond. I've eaten here twice in one week. My first visit was a 5-star my second visit was a 3-star hence my 4-Star rating. During my first visit I ordered a trio of their Avenue tacos, barbacoa, Baja fish and carnitas, they' were all great but the carnitas was amazing! Quite possibly the best carnitas I've ever had. I went back today and ordered two more carnitas tacos for lunch and they were totally different than the ones I had a few days ago. They were still good but not nearly as good and totally different both in appearance and taste. Also, I ordered the Pina Rita margarita on both occasions and it two was different both times. The first time it was much creamier and tasted better and had a huge toasted coconut rim, today the pins Rita was not nearly as creamy and there was little or no coconut on the rim. After my first visit I was excited about this place but four days later I now feel disappointed. I'm going to go back and give it one more shot but the simple fact that they have zero consistency is worrisome. I'll leave another review after my next visit. read more

First time there for a Girls' lunch today. Appetizers we shared the classic guacamole and esquites, both were delicious! The one of my girlfriends got the Carnitas Enchiladas in green sauce (I tried a bit of it and it was delicious!). I went with some tacos and so did the other friend in our group. Food was amazing. Price was decent. Service was great, and even the manager came to introduce himself and wish us a great meal. The restaurant is brand sparkling new, very open and doesn't feel crowded. We came here for dinner on a date night and had a really nice time. My husband made a reservation for Sunday night for 6:45pm but we showed up closer to 6:30pm and they were still able to seat us right away. The interior is spacious but it will still bustling. It was my first time here, my husband had been to another location before. The server was really informative and asked if we wanted any recommendations and also helped me choose between margaritas. The chips and house salsa were really, really good. The tortilla chips tasted like they were freshly fried and the salsa was a deep red (but not spicy) sauce. To start, we shared 2 apps: trio of salsas and a traditional queso. The queso was "wow" for lack of a better word, with pickled veggies and jalapeños cooked along with the cheese for maximum flavor. This was both of our favorite item of the night. I also ordered the jalapeño margarita and 2 tacos (al pastor and a fried cauliflower). My husband got a mezcal (neat) to sip on and 3 tacos (al pastor, crispy fish, el gringo). The service was friendly and the food was divine. I can see why Ancho & Agave, a chain serving sit-down Mexican fare, brings in all the business it does. I think it's going to do well in Naperville. If it's any sign that I loved this place, during the meal I declared, "I want to have my birthday here." And I take birthday meals very seriously. A bday meal is the perfect excuse to order 14 tacos served on their 14-taco taco tray (that I saw being served at one of the longer tables with a bigger group). Sunday night @ 5:15. Not very busy. Nice greeting. Seated in an awkward shaped booth (u-shaped) making conversation a bit difficult. Very friendly server (Lanie), who provided excellent service throughout the course of the meal. Chips and salsa were served promptly. Very good salsa and excellent homemade chips. We all ordered burritos...3 Gringos (ground beef), and one chicken. We were not huge fans. The ground beef was very bland (yet at the same time very salty). The rice was dry and somewhat hard. The burrito had no beans and no cheese, so different than most burritos I've had. It was covered in a queso sauce, which was delicious. The food was lukewarm, at best. Perhaps, this is what a more "upscale" burrito is supposed to look and taste like, but it wasn't the typical burrito I like to eat. We won't return. read more

First time coming. We got sat very quickly but it took over 20mins for someone to come to the able, and it took someone from our party to get up and tell someone, in order for them to come. Servers were super nice but still service was very slow, we also had to get the waitress to get our sever so we can pay at the end. For the food, didn't care much for the salsa, I think it would be nice if they gave a few options since that is one of my favorite things when I go to a Mexican restaurant.. didn't care for the rice. If you're looking for authentic Mexican, look somewhere else. This is American-ized Mexican food that is decent if you like that style. The ambiance is nice for a totally plain Naperville suburb. However, the biggest disappointment is the service or lack thereof. In fact, I wish I could rate this place a "zero" because of the overall experience. I've worked restaurant and service industry for 11+ years, we have lots of friends in the service industry in downtown Chicago, and my family owns over 50 restaurants in another country. The first thing is to bring water, utensils, and napkins to the customer (unless you're in Europe or Asia). Well, that didn't happen until we asked. We also had to ask if someone can take our order. On top of that, no one asked if we needed anything else for practically 1.5 hours. In fact, we would've ordered more drinks if someone would've asked. I had to go to the host/hostess stand to ask for our check because the non-busy bartenders lacked the attention to notice us. Absolutely horrible service ...and it all stems from the management staff and training program!! read more

From the Happy Hour menu, we ordered Classic Guacamole, Kung Pao Chicken tacos, Steak Asada tacos, Shrimp Acapulco tacos, and Baja Fish tacos (grilled for a tasty gluten‑free option). We have been wanting to try this for months. Finally went in and everything was delicious and perfect. Atmosphere is very unique. Love all the lamps and decor, which I forgot to take pictures of. Service was quick and attentive. Food came out hot and delicious!!! My boys have an extensive palate, I should have ordered them special tacos off adult menu. They would have loved them too. If I were to explain my experience in once short phrase or sentence about the dining experience and the food at Ancho & Agave, Naperville, I'd say: Extremely disappointed! What the heck? You open a brand-new restaurant in one of the most desirable areas in the western suburbs, do a great job with the vibrant interiors and forget that you need to serve good tasting food too?!?! We were waiting for this place to open up since the time I learned that there's new Mexican restaurant opening close to home. It was a big letdown. Oh my god, what a disappointment!!! Their chips are extra thick and has no taste or completely bland, salsa was just okay, lacked flavor. Guacamole, (nothing extra special) was probably a one avocado portion and $11 for it, wtf?? The mesquite chicken enchiladas I had were probably the worst I've ever eaten! That place on Rt 59 Border, probably has a lot better food than this place. Their chicken tacos looked and tasted mediocre at the best and again with a little extra thick corn tortillas. The food was barely warm when it got to the table. Just because I was with company, I decided not complain. The only thing that saved the day was their jalapeno margheritas. Honestly, Houlihan's' had 10 times better food than what they serve in 2025. I think you may enjoy better food at Pepe's or Taco Bell, haha! read more

Tonight at 4:15 my husband and I went to Ancho and Agave for the Happy Hour menu that is on their website. Both the bar and the restaurant were virtually empty. Despite that we walked past a table in the bar with dirty dishes which no one had cleaned up. Not very appetizing! When we asked the server about the Happy Hour menu she said even though it's on their website they are the only restaurant that does not honor it. I showed it to her on my phone but no comment. The no comment explains our interaction with every employee we encountered. Even worse, the manager stood in the door to the kitchen and watched two customers walk out! Do not understand a business model that thinks customers leave your almost empty restaurant is a good idea. Even if they would not honor their website it would seem you would do something to keep customers from walking out. Poor decision by the manager! Will be contacting corporate and spreading the word. Lots of restaurants in Naperville that have better service. read more

Luckily, we spotted some seats at the bar, which turned out to be perfect -- very comfortable and welcoming. We went here on a Friday night in December. It was relatively busy but still some seats open in a cute dining room. We were promptly greeted by the hostess and met our server. Drinks were solid. We got the raspberry lime and holly jolly ritas.. The free chips are well seasoned and the smokey flavorful salsa. Now the bad...the flight of guacamole is three scoops of 2oz portions of the same guac with some stuff on top. The barbacoa and pork belly tacos had zero flavor. You have to be really talented to take two super naturally flavorful meats and make them devoid of all flavor. The chicken asada taco was really salty while the blackened salmon one just had a light smokey flavor. It then took about 20 minutes to get the check which was the only time we saw our server. Basically, get drinks here then go around the corner to Taco Pros, Dave's hot chicken, or Smash Burger and you'll have a much better time and night as well as service ...I can't believe they got rid of Houlihan's for this.
