Update 2/2026:, Le Chocolat du Bouchard is still, after all these years, one of my favorite places to indulge in something wonderful. What began in my mind as a temple of decadent desserts has evolved beautifully. The Bistro now serves inspired French fare, Croque Monsieur and Madame, baked French onion soup, sweet and savory crêpes, and other thoughtfully prepared dishes. It's no longer just about chocolate, though let's be honest... the chocolate still reigns supreme. This time I visited with a friend and her absolutely adorable 2.5-year-old -- a tiny human with a very serious devotion to chocolate. Watching her delight in each bite might have been sweeter than the desserts themselves. Elegant, cozy, timeless. A place that manages to feel both special and familiar at once. We came by for brunch on a random Sunday morning. The snowglobe weather we were having made for a great reason for hot chocolate. I stared my meal with the hot chocolate flight. For our apps we got the French onion soup and the Brie en croute. For our entree we shared the chicken pot pie and the grilled cheese. The hot chocolate flight came out fast, and piping hot. Offering a sample of 4 different types, a classic, dark chocolate, spicy chocolate and salted caramel. The spicy one was far too spicy for me, but the rest were delightful! The dark one taste like you were enjoying a liquid brownie. For our apps, the Brie en croute was my favorite, with the hot melting Brie on the crostini's with their delicious fig jam it was great! The French onion soup was a bit too salty for my enjoyment but it did have tons of flavor for the bits we were able to eat. The entrees were a bit of a let down for me. We wanted the beef but they were sold out. So we settled with these entrees. The chicken pot pie was offered in a rather different presentation and was a bit hard to eat. It came with a choice of salad or pasta salad. Both the side options were great. The grilled cheese had bacon and Granny Smith apples and the cheese was mostly on the outside. It made it a bit too greasy and that apples were a bit too tarte to make it enjoyable. Overall we had a good experience, I would like to try a few of their crepes next time instead. My friend and I stopped in to grab hot chocolates before taking a walk down the Riverwalk at 9:15 pm. We were turned away by the hostess because the cafe was "too busy" and we were asked, "didn't you see the sign?" Stopped by around 2 PM on a Wednesday afternoon. There were already two other people waiting to purchase chocolate but no one was around in the store for a good 5 minutes or so to help. It did take a bit to get through the other two customers which was a bit annoying since I was just hoping to buy one bar of pre packaged chocolate. However, the server was quite friendly. I also did see that a couple of flies flying on the uncovered chocolates for sale which was a bit unappetizing. So, I normally LOVE Le Chocolat for their lattes. The caramelatte, Nutella latte, all of them are so dang tasty. We have also gotten the Death By Chocolate cake twice because it was a party favorite! (3 different people went out of their way to tell us they loved it). That said, I was eager to try their cafe food- especially the croque monsieur, as that is one of my favorites. Sadly, I was very disappointed by my sandwich. The brioche and the béchamel smooshed together into one big gooey (but not in a good way) mash. Every bite was soft, soggy, and all of the flavors blended together in a way that masked each individual taste. It just felt like eating mushy bread. However. My mother got the Cobb salad, which she loved. And my sister got a berry crepe, which she also loved. The service is always great, as well. Thus, one bad sandwich (though I would say it's an important sandwich for a French cafe) does not take away from the 2 other good dishes, great pastries, and fantastic drinks. Oh! And I absolutely love the decor. The walls are my favorite- an eggshell blue and there are so many rustic, cute items and history tidbits sprinkled throughout. My daughter lives in Las Vegas. I live in Sacramento. On a recent trip to Naperville, my daughter and her family came here for lunch. She called me as she was leaving the restaurant that afternoon to share with me what a wonderful experience they had and that she wanted very much to bring me here. The European konditerei ambiance she declared was exceptional. She described how the owner brought samples of her chocolates to their table and when my daughter exclaimed how much her Mom (me) would love this, the owner sent some truffles with my daughter to share with me! My daughter described how delicious the French onion soup was. So we made a plan to fly in to Chicago today and meet up at the airport and with so much excitement we were headed to Le Chocolat du Bouchard. We were late for our reservation but called and were told they would hold the table which they did. We sat down, the owner was sitting at the table in front of us. My daughter saw her and told me that was the owner who then saw us looking at her and asked "do I know you?" My daughter was so excited and said "yes, I'm from Las Vegas, my family and I were here a few months ago and you were so attentive to our table. I couldn't wait to bring my Mom and here she is." The owner made it clear she had no memory of my daughter or that experience at all. She showed no interest in meeting me. She then picked her phone up and definitely let us know that conversation was finished. She never looked at us again or thanked my daughter for coming back in. I ordered a beet salad which was lettuce, beets, and mandarin segments completely dry. No dressing at all. After we asked for salad dressing, we began noticing 4 or 5 of the employees pointing at our table and snickering which continued throughout our dinner and even as we got up to leave. The server brought our bill never asking if we would like dessert (it is a patisserie after all). When we questioned him, he really offered no explanation. Just that we could order it now if we wanted. To be treated in such an unwelcome manner in a business establishment was entirely disturbing. My daughter was mind blown! She literally raved about this place for 2 months and when we left, her disappointment was painful. We are just thoroughly confused as to why. If they were frustrated that we were late, why not be honest and let us know they were unable to hold the table.? Instead, we spent $240.00 for an extremely uncomfortable evening! My first ever yelp review, btw!!! As a Mom, to watch my grown daughter's enthusiasm turn to shock and disbelief was unbelievably disheartening! Very disappointed with the way Debby treated my Spanish-speaking family. She spoke to them in a hostile and rude tone, making it extremely uncomfortable to even ask simple questions. It was so unprofessional that another customer even asked her, "Are you mad? Do you have a problem with me?" If Debby is meant to represent this store, it reflects very poorly on its values and integrity. Respect and basic courtesy should be a standard--especially when dealing with diverse communities. I went specifically for the viral Dubai Chocolate bar. I've tried a few from other establishments and this is my least favorite. The dark chocolate is bitter and the pistachio flavor is almost nowhere to be found. It almost seems like they forgot to add the sugar to the bar. I won't complain about the price as it's in line for this bar. I tried the Mexican hot chocolate (Mexicocoa) as well. It was terrible. I should have passed and got a hot chocolate from down the street from a restaurant chain that is phenomenal and lined with marshmallow fluff I also got a box of triple chocolate toffee. It was just okay. The gal that helped me was nice and friendly. The store was adorable and the display cases had beautiful pastries in it. It just failed to deliver in taste. read more

I've come here quite a few times before and they always have delicious desserts to try. They have a bistro side that serves desserts, drinks, and martinis. Their Patisserie side holds all their sweets and confectionery. My favorites are the flourless chocolate cake, it's dense and rich, almost like digging into truffle. My all time favorite is the turtle cheesecake, the caramel on top is unique, rich, and aromatic. First, let me talk about a non-food but important aspect. The restroom was filthy. Now, this place is closed on Tuesday and we came for lunch on Wednesday, about an hour after it opened which means I should have walked into a sparking bathroom that smelled like stringent cleaning product. Instead it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a week. Cleanliness in today's world means something far different than it used to just a few years ago. Buy foodservice bathroom products, cocktail napkins are not hand towels. Is this where your staff is washing up? I hope not. I did notice a bottle of Lysol home cleaner on the back of the bar, but I'm not sure if Lysol all-purpose cuts it as an appropriate foodservice cleaning chemical. Your servers are slow and not the most friendly. We got our food after a LONG TIME. And since we never got silverware I asked for some. The girl slowly hand assembled napkin packs for us at her leisure, as we sat and waited. Also, when customers are waiting to order, you tend to customers, not busy yourself doing ancillary tasks, those come after customers have been tended to. The sliced apples on the side of my son's sandwich looked dried as of they had been cut yesterday and stuck in the fridge uncovered. I wouldn't let him eat them. Then I over-heard the barista tell our waitress that she is starting to get a stuffy nose. WTH?? That's an appetizing convo to overhear. I get it, times are tough for restaurants right now. But we've visited a lot of places that are doing all the right things given current limitations in staff and supply and are still killing it. The only reason for two stars was because the food was good. But I'm not going to eat here again. Perhaps just stick with the chocolate shop. They have a lot to learn about foodservice here. The cafeterias at the zoos and museums we visit have better knowledge of foodservice than this restaurant. read more

I used to really love this place, and I still do to an extent. It isn't their food that's the problem - it's the service, and I believe it has gotten worse since my last post. I came in to order a Chocolate Caramel hot chocolate and it was perfectly prepared. When I asked to pay, they told me they don't accept Apple Pay even though I've paid them in that way before. Because I asked if I could still try, she asked her supervisor to take care of me. What I didn't know was that I was going to wait 20 minutes for her to finish making a family of four's drinks who came in after me before she would tend to my minor request. After they insisted that I find another form of payment, her supervisor did come around to finally bill me - and the Apple Pay worked. I was very disappointed that she couldn't pass the next customer's orders on to her coworker, tend to me quickly, then get back to the orders. I would recommend the staff to know what they can do for customers or have better coordination when tending to customers. read more

Stopped in to browse on a weekday afternoon and was able to get a look at their event space. Very cute! The staff was very friendly and told us about some of the fun upcoming events they have planned. I tried the Mexican chocolate truffle and the salted dark chocolate truffle. I loved the Mexican chocolate truffle, it had such a great spiced flavor and was not overpowering. The chocolate was rich and not overly sweet- I loved it! The salted dark chocolate was good on the outside but I was not a fan of the filling- tasted like chocolate frosting. I will definitely be back to try more! read more

My Friend and I had a delicious lunch at Le Chocolat du Bouchard last week, and I just wanted to say that it was my first time eating lunch rather than enjoying the chocolate goodies, and it did not disappoint! If you go, you MUST try the Chicken pot pie...flaky layers of puff pastry surround and enhance a yummy chicken filling as good as you will ever taste. And hats off to Manager Kim who helped resolve a small issue quickly and satisfactorily! Wow! Great service! The restaurant and total establishment is so inviting and decorated to enjoy a simple lunch, a decadent dessert or a grand affair upstairs! Highly recommend Le Chocolat du Bouchard. Tucked in the heart of downtown Naperville is a magical little place called Le Chocolat du Bouchard. It is what dreams are made of! I visited with the intent of trying the hot chocolate which is supposed to be one of the best in Chicago. I also picked up a slice of carrot cake, a small mini cheesecake and a mini raspberry white chocolate yellow cake. Me and my cousin dined in the small dining room and enjoyed a caramel hot chocolate and it was delicious! Rich, sweet and comforting, the hot chocolate was topped with fluffy whipped cream and was delightful. The carrot cake, for you non chocolate lovers, was moist, delicious and not too sweet. Beautiful venue with a classic vintage feel. The specialty here is as their name implies, CHOCOLATE! Bought a 5" Death by Chocolate Cake today and it was wonderfully rich. Picked 2 large ($7), 2 small ($5) and a candy bar off a display. $9.95 for the candy bar and it's awful. I expected it to be a little pricey, but not that pricey and I felt awkward saying I didn't want it. Lovely spot to grab some desserts. Inside the decor is adorable with a nice French theme, as the name suggests. The items are placed where its so appealing to the eye, that you just want to take a bite out of everything. My group ordered a little bit of everything as far as the desserts - macarons, carrot cake, cake pops, lemon merengue, pretzel cookies, and their hot cocoa. They were all delectable and yummy! Price is not bad either. The little desserts were 4 for $8 so you can get a nice variety. They also have a bar on the other side, with tables to sit at and enjoy what you order. They have really good versions of hot chocolate, and even serve liquor! If you order a hot chocolate to go, you need to take your receipt to the bar on the otherside. The reason I knocked off a star is because the 2 girls working the hot chocolate bar the night that I went seemed to be more involved in themselves and joking around with each other rather than the customers at the bar.
