I've been watching Area 51 online for awhile and decided to place an order for a family event. The cupcakes were amazingly good.... Nice and moist 10 out of 10 will be back read more

OBSESSED! Area 51 is veteran and locally owned. There is a location in north Naperville and south Naperville. They have daily specials that change every month. Yuuuup, I'll be here on a monthly basis. They also have a punch card system. Every 12 cupcakes will get you 1 cupcake for free. The inside is super cool, there are numerous spots for photo ops and they even have a ring light and camera holder if interested in using it. My first time visiting I tried the following cupcakes: chai pumpkin latte (daily special and DANGGGG DELICIOUS), Almond wedding (my least favorite but still good, I think almond cupcakes just aren't for me), cookies and cream (divine, rich, 2nd favorite), and the Boston cream (also 2nd favorite lol). All of the cupcakes were moist, fluffy, and full of flavor. They are made daily and you can feel and taste the love. Area 51 is definitely my favorite cupcake spot of all time. I've gone to Area 51 probably every week since finding em and I can't get enough. They also made cupcakes for my baby's gender reveal. They were extremely accommodating and everything turned out perfect! I highly recommend them for custom cakes, cupcakes, or even just grabbing 1 of their daily made cupcakes. SOOO GOOD! read more

I've been a longtime fan of Area 51 Cupcakery, so naturally, I trusted them with one of the most important desserts I've ever ordered -- a custom cake for my brother's first-ever surprise 50th birthday party. Two weeks before the event, I came in person with a printed cake design, a clear color theme (green, cream, and white), and a macaron accent order to go with it. I was flexible on the design details, just committed to the vision. On the day of pickup, I arrived a little late -- my fault -- but there was no cake waiting, and my order couldn't be found. Hannah behind the counter did her best, and when owner Robert walked in, I calmly explained everything from the start. I won't lie -- I was heartbroken more than angry. This was a big night. What happened next is why I'm writing this review. Robert and his team didn't hesitate. They snapped a photo of the design from my phone, asked every detail, and promised to make it right -- with Robert personally delivering the cake to the venue (thankfully just 5 minutes away). And he did. He showed up with the cake designer in tow and delivered something truly stunning: a handsome, elegant cake that fit the theme perfectly and genuinely wowed my brother and guests. And the flavor? Their Atomic. Banana (pudding), strawberries (jam), and chocolate, vanilla & banana cake. YUM! It was incredibly moist and delicious. What could have been a devastating hiccup for such a milestone night became one of the most memorable parts of the celebration. That's a testament to Robert and his team's character, dedication, and craft. Thank you, Area 51 Cupcakery. We've loved your cupcakes from day one, and this experience only deepened our loyalty. We'll always come back. read more

My first time at Area 51 Cupcakery! Upon entry you see a whole bunch of cupcakes and treats - very sweet ambiance. The customer service was fast and friendly. I got three cupcakes and three brookies - the cupcakes as a whole are better than the brookie! Worth trying if you have a sweet tooth :) read more

Yesterday was the first time we stopped into Area 51 - and it definitely won't be the last. Wonderful bakery with delectable delights. We walked away with four huge cupcakes. We bought hot fudge sundae, coconut, pink chocolate, and Boston cream. Oh, and we walked away with a pupcake for our Papillion. I used to be a cupcake baker, and I love to find cupcake bakeries and do a taste test. This bakery did not disappoint. This bakery is amazing! The size of their cupcakes are generous, the frosting is not too sweet, but so creamy, and the cakes are moist and delicious. The cupcakes are worth the $4 they charge. I can't wait to try every flavor! Oh and my puppy devoured his pupcake. They also make cookies and macarons. read more

My husband wanted Jersey Mikes (next door) and when I saw a place named Area 51, I had to check it out. You see, I have a room in my house I call Area 51 with a strong Alien theme, so it was kismet I eat a cupcake from a like- named place. I happen to enter Area 51 two minutes before closing (though didn't realize), but the owner was still super friendly and welcoming. She liked my Roswell T-Shirt and I told her about my own personal Area 51. She didn't have much left (being closing time), but I picked out a flavor and was on my way. That cupcake was the best of my life. It was pure heaven. I had the coconut cream pie cupcake and delicious is an understatement. Everything is perfect about this place. If you live in the area, I'm jealous. If you're visiting like I was, plan a stop here. It's absolutely worth it. read more

Just had the worst experience trying to place a cake order at Area 51 Cupcakery. This was my second time here in a week trying to place a cake order. I've ordered from here several times in the past. I even ordered a cake here for my husband's birthday in June. I walked into the bakery and there were no customers! The associate working in the store told me he was on the phone finishing up with a cake order. I waited patiently for 15 minutes while he talked on the phone with another customer. All of a sudden a flurry of customers walked in the store just as he was finishing up his call. He immediately walked over and started helping the other customers who had just walked in! I continued to wait while he took another customer instead of helping me. Then he walked over to help another customer. I said wow and just walked out. Unbelievable! I guess he thinks their time is more valuable than mine. Well too bad because they just lost out on a pricey cake order and a repeat customer who had been very supportive of their business. I will not be coming back to Area 51 Cupcakery after such poor treatment! read more

I purchase regularly from AREA 51! I have not had a problem with product qualify, only a late delivery once. Every item I have bought, and consumed has been of excellent quality. This place used to be Smallcakes, but I had never been there since they rebranded to Area 51. But my boss brought in some of their cupcakes this week: yum! Moist, not overly sweet, and the mini size was right if you wanted a tiny snack (2-3 would be more like a regular cupcake). Coincidentally, my dad told me a few days later that he and my mom had had some Area 51 cupcakes at an event and really enjoyed them too! read more

DELICIOUS cupcakes great for any occasion. We ordered for my husband's birthday and got so many compliments. The birthday cake flavor went like hot cakes! The order was ready to pick up right when I arrived, and the girls working there were so friendly. We will be coming back! Would love to try another fun flavor. The shop was spacious enough to sit in and have a cupcake, but we did just pick them up to go this time. read more

I have been a customer of Area 51 Cupcakery and Smallcakes for years. From the first time I tasted one their cupcakes, I was hooked. It's my favorite cupcake place. Whenever someone is looking for a place to get cupcakes or cakes, I consistently recommend them. Last week I did not have the best experience. The cake I ordered did not come out right, and I was disappointed. There was also a pricing issue. However, Jordan, the manager, reached out to me and made everything right. He was apologetic, very nice, and professional. It's one thing to offer great customer service when things go right, it's a completely different story when you offer great customer service when things don't go well. I HIGHLY recommend Area 51 Cupcakery. read more

If you want quality cupcakes that are there perfect size without it getting over the top, Small Cakes is wonderful. I love that they make normal sized cupcakes that go just over the edge of what I would normally make at home without making me feel guilty for overindulging. There are numerous flavors to choose from, but carr, r red velvet, and lemon drop are my top picks. Ingredients are quality and the buttercream frosting on these delightful desserts are perfect. I don't like grocery store sweetness, and the balance of sweet and flavors hit a sweet spot. No pun intended. This location is in the same plaza as Jewel so you can't miss it! read more

Placed an online order for a custom cake and got a call the following day to confirm my order and discuss details. The price stayed true to their estimate. Cupcakes make the world go round---I'll fight you for it LOL--but if you agree with me--we can skip the fight and just eat some good cupcakes. I absolutely love this cupcakery because they make so many more goodies above and beyond cupcakes. The staff and owners are always very delightful. I've ordered specialty cakes and cupcakes, as well as stopped in to grab whatever goodies are in the case. I love they have a monthly rotating daily menu of special cupcake flavors which add in unique flavors as well as seasonal treats. The cakes are moist and the frostings and fillings generally aren't too sweet. If you're in the mood to treat yourself or a loved one--this is definitely the place to do it! read more

Area 51 Cupcakes never disappoints. We get them for most of our large family birthday parties. They even have gluten free cupcakes that are just as wonderful as their regular cupcakes. By popular request, I asked if I could have their out-of-season strawberry cupcakes, and they said if I ordered a dozen, I could. I always order extra so the birthday person can take home one to have another one later. I will not recommend every flavor we love, because we love them all! When you arrive to pick up many boxes for parties, everything is ready, labeled with your name, and someone is prepared to help you. The parking is easy and spacious. read more

Yummy, my kids enjoyed their cupcakes.we will be back to try other flavors . The cheesecakes looked tempting.

The food was really good. Me and my family stopped by because we wanted some cake and each of us got a cupcake.

I'd been meaning to stop in if only for the name. No cupcakes for me; I got cookies, an "Atomic Parfait" and a slice of cake. As you would expect from a place that features cupcakes where the frosting is as tall as the cake, this place is about indulgence. The pumpkin cookies are monster cookie sized, and the magic cookie bars are the size of 4 normal cookies. They were tasty, as was the slice of cake (two layers of cake, frosting, a 3/8" slab of mascarpone filling - it was a slice, I knew exactly what I was getting into). You may want to share the Atomic Parfait with someone; it's layers of cake, fruit sauce and whipped cream, which traveled surprisingly well. I came here mostly to write about the coffee. I got a vanilla latte. There was a very strong artificial sweetener flavor which completely overwhelmed the coffee, and I didn't finish it. I think perhaps in the quest for indulgence they overdosed the syrup; if you don't like artificial vanilla flavor, get an Americano or cafe au lait. read more

Normally I don't shop in this area, but was having my car serviced next door. Great selection and the price was in line for this area. I ordered carrot cake, wedding cake (don't waste you money on this wedding cake option, it was bland, bland, bland) The last one I tried was similar to a Boston cream donut. Would try again, but I would ask next time which flavors are popular. At $5 a cupcake, I want my money's worth... This is not the place to go if you are looking for attractive boxing or to give as a gift. Their presentation boxes are awful looking. read more

Cupcakes were good. Wish they would have had milk alternatives. Staff seemed annoyed when I asked about the milk alternatives.

I ordered my son's 5th birthday cake from here. My son loves Roblox and I asked if they can make him a Roblox themed cake and have one of his avatars up on top of the cake. Jill was so nice and helpful. She took my order over the phone and I emailed some photos and she followed up with me to make sure she understood what I wanted. I picked up the cake Saturday morning and it was ready. It looked amazing! My son's avatar was right on top of the cake and Roblox logo was on the bottom layer. My son's face lit up when he saw the cake. Now for the cake. We got chocolate and vanilla. The cake was really moist and not overly sweet! I had also ordered 1 dozen chocolate chip cookies. Both items were a hit! I have always come for cupcakes, I never realized they did birthday cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, brownies and macaroons! I want to try everything. We will be ordering my daughter's birthday cake from here in March. Great customer service! read more

Small Cakes Stopped in to get a sweet treat and cup of coffee because we saw the sign from the road that said coffee and cupcakes. Unfortunately, they hadn't opened in their new location that would be offering this so we drove back a little in the strip mall to their location that offers cupcakes and ice cream. We decided to try birthday cake, carrot cake, red velvet and coconut cupcakes. Honestly, I'm a little torn here. The cupcake themselves were light, fluffy and moist as a cupcake should be, but the flavors were less than was I'd expected. The non-perils on the birthday cake frosting had too strong of their flavor (not sure how to describe that food color non-peril coating flavor), the coconut cupcake seemed like vanilla cupcake and if I'm not mistaken had a cream cheese frosting dusted with coconut flakes. Again, not exactly the flavors I expect from a coconut cupcake. Not sure that I'd go back for cupcakes, but their cake decorations are marvelous and considering the fluffy moist cupcakes, I'd assume their cakes are just as fluffy. I'll give it another try at the new location for coffee and other baked goods. read more

As you probably know, this location is now Area 51 instead of Smallcakes (which I believe is due to not renewing the franchise agreement, but don't quote me). As far as I can remember, the cupcake flavors seem to be the same. We got a hot fudge sundae, a birthday cake, and a peanut butter cupcake. All were pretty tasty. I would say less sugary than Cupcake by Design and certainly better than grocery store cupcakes, but not quite as good as Molly's. read more

I really enjoy coming to Smallcakes! I love that they have a revolving menu so that there's something new everyday. They have their normal flavors and then specialty flavors each day of the week. These change out every month. That being said, it's both exciting and a little frustrating sometimes when there's a really good flavor you wanna try but they're all on different days. It's a great marketing strategy though- just come all days of the week! My all time favorite is the Wedding Almond Cake and the Hot Fudge Sundae. They also offer gelato which tastes really good. I think they even make it themselves! I haven't tried the other things on their menu yet. Their flavor profile is good but, honestly, they all kind of taste the same since they use the same buttercream recipe and just add different things in. The interior is beautiful and very classy. It's a very nice place to hang with friends and family and is also a great photo op. The staff is always so friendly and polite. As for price, I think Smallcakes has a leg up on Molly's in that area. The price is fair for a gourmet cupcake but what makes it fair is that they actually use a jumbo sized cupcake liner. It's not tiny like Molly's. They also do have some sort of rewards system through a punchcard. read more
