Quick accidental stop (I was originally pursuing coffee at Caribou) here and happily surprised to eat some tacos that taste like home (home being Mexico). Had birria and al pastor with the right fixings (cilantro and onion / + pineapple for pastor) a sprinkle of lime and salsas to choose from the salsa bar (some I liked some I didn't but there are plenty of choices for everyone). Paid $9.5 for two tacos for a quick breakfast. Unsure if that will be enough for everyone but for me that was plenty (tacos are in taco size corn tortilla which are small but you have two tortillas per taco). This place is amazing! I've eaten here twice (so far) and have yet to be disappointed. The first time, I ordered three street tacos - BBQ, carnitas and steak. The carnitas is excellent! Each taco had a slightly different flavor. They come with a lot of cilantro. So, if you're not a fan, make sure you tell them. The second time, I had the hueracha. It's a long corn tortilla with a refried bean spread topped with your choice of meat, cilantro, peppers, onions and sauce. Wow! It was terrific. If you go during lunch, it's likely to be packed. I'm between 3 and 4 stars on this one. The tacos here are great -- some of the better fast casual tacos you'll find in the twin cities region. But the dining room is a bit small and depressing. A friend recommended this to us so we finally decided to try some and ordered some take out. Nice size dining room. Order at the counter. Food ordered: Kids American Taco meal which came with a chocolate sucker with a clown on the wrapper and comes with choice of Mexican Water- we chose the mango which looked quite sweet. Great food! I love their biria tacos and I get them all the time. Their service is great and timely and I appreciate their ordering system.

Came to Taco Libre while staying at the neighboring hotel while at a conference. Very convenient as this was walking distance from the hotel. I ordered their American tacos where you could choose one meat topped with lettuce, cheese, tomato and sour cream. I got the Azada (steak) and Pollo a la Mexicana (shredded chicken with onions and tomatoes). With that, I also ordered their chips and queso. SOOOOO good! We were excited to try Taco Libre and went there very hungry. As the menu was somewhat confusing, we asked the 2 employees standing behind the counter, talking with each other, how we might order a few things that weren't clear on the kiosk. We were told not once, but twice, "you need to order on the kiosk". After multiple tries, we weren't able to order what we had hoped to order and left in frustration. I really gotta shout this place out for having excellent vegetarian options. Your typical Mexican joint has beans and maybe peppers as an option but this place has 3 different fillings to choose from. You can get mushrooms, poblanos and cheese or, my favorite, pumpkin blossom. I know it sounds weird but for 3.50 each it's worth trying! The portions here are super big too. I walked in to the sweet sound of Spanish, not just over the speaker system, also spilling from the mouths of about a dozen patrons. Sure, we stood out a bit in our west coast plaid and my husband's blonde hair shining. He pointed to what he wanted (Huarache) and pushed me to the register to order for him, since he had no idea how to say it. We ordered, then added some more to it - I mean, I haven't had street corn in 15yrs and fresh churros, just stop. I tried his huarache, it was phenomenal. Such an excellent melding of flavors and plenty on it's own. Still we added chips and guacamole, as I must try all the guacs. Guacamole was on point. Churros were crisp, tender. Street corn, nice sweet/savory balance - delish. The pork tamale was ok, not a homerun but not bad... it was well cooked, almost bread-like. Taco Libre! I think I just might have been living under a rock only one mile from you...how has this been possible? My husband picked me up takeout tonight and he said the place was buzzing ( always good news for a food establishment). He brought home the steak machete- it was incredibly fresh and flavorful- nothing fast food about it! 18" sized masa tortilla filled with lettuce, sour cream, Oaxaca cheese and meat. Wow! I am sold. My family and I chose to pick up taco liver for dinner since we've all been craving Mexican food lately. The interior is nice and clean with plenty of seating and some really cool murals and decor.They also have a salsa bar where you can take as much salsa as your heart desires! The heats arranged from mild to hot are green, red, orange. Be wary the orange is VERY hot. The menu has a variety of yummy sounding food. I chose to order a fish taco, a carnitas street taco, and an empanada. I want to choose a favorite but honestly it's a tie between the fish taco and the empanada! Both were so delicious, they made my taste buds do a little dancy-dance. The fish was so flavorful and cooked perfectly, super crispy. The empanada was so warm and flavorful. This was my first time trying an empanada and I'll be honest, when someone says the best food is made with love, the empanada truly tasted like it. The carnitas taco was good, nothing to crazy to rave about personally. My family had 3 carnitas tacos and a Machete and both really enjoyed their meals. In a small shopping mall with handicap parking nearby Order at the counter and a wide tasty variety of authentic dishes. I had Burrito and they provide sauces, utensils and tables to eat at. Oh my! A good friend of mine teased me with pictures of tacos from this place a few weeks ago. I finally happened to be in the area and couldn't have been more thrilled! I had 3 tacos. Less than $3 each. I had the Flor de clabaza, barbacoa, and Al pastor tacos. I grabbed some hot sauce and pickled vegetables from the sauce bar. Truly, I didn't need to add anything to the tacos. The food is mediocre for the price. It's very expensive, bad customer service, and there are better Mexican places in the Minneapolis area. They recently installed machines to order your food and we couldn't customize it our way at all! We asked for lettuce and tomato on our burritos and they told us NO. We advised that we were able to add it in the past (before they installed the machines) and they told us that shouldn't have happened and didn't even offer an apology. If I can't get the food I'm buying the way I want then I will spend my money elsewhere. So I'd rather go elsewhere! read more

Prices are ok, I have not compared much pricing in Minneapolis for Mexican restaurants. This is a semi fast food with awesome flavor and friendly professional staff. Taco Libre has great authentic Mexican food. I've been to mainland Mexico and the food here is comparable for sure. I've been to the Oakdale and St. Paul locations multiple times but once at the Edina location. Everything tastes full of flavor here (except maybe the fish tacos, don't recommend). Fried cod that is bland and from a frozen bag, weird lettuce, and sauce was too thick for the taco. The menus are easy to read and the design of the restaurant is modern and fun. Clean environment overall too. Prices are maybe a little more than other Mexican restaurants in the area, but it's fast casual so everything comes out pretty quickly. Food: Chips & guac here are better than Chipotle's. Street tacos are a must-try (pastor and asada). Machete can feed two not as hungry adults if you get side dishes or two younger children. Wow, if you are looking for some Mexican fare - you've found the place. Go early if you go for lunch or be prepared to wait in line.

Decent food. I've been going to the St. Paul Location for a while now, back when it felt a little more authentic. I was excited to see that there was one closer to where I live and hangout. Location isn't far off of Hwy 100 or 494. Very easy to get to and has parking (a parking lot). I ordered chicken tacos, they were okay, not great. They didn't have much flavor. I do really like the fact that they have a salsa bar with multiple choices of sauce to put on your meal. Prices are fair, The one in St. Paul is a little cheaper, or used to be before the other locations came along (but further out, so I guess it balances out). Staff/service was fast. Its really just a matter of them putting it all together. Other than that not much interaction. read more
