This is some AMAZING authentic Mexican. We ordered the 1 Meat Alambre and Carne Asada & Al Pastor platter, which came with rice, beans, 5 corn tortillas, and unlimited sides & sauces. I LOVED the side salad and sauce bar, where you can help yourself to whatever garnishes/toppings you want. The sauces are clearly house made and so delicious. Everything was so fresh. Long time Pineda customer, but this was my first time at Pineda Plus and dare I say... knocks Pineda out of the water (with so much love! I love Pineda always). The space itself is very reminiscent of Pineda. Lots of bright colors and TVs playing movies or telenovelas. Food comes out very fast and ordering is simple and quick. I got the Veggie Burrito. It was so good. Very good ratio of all the different ingredients. The rice and tortilla were especially good. Two things that I often don't pay that much attention to in a burrito, but this made me realize how much of a make or break they are. The rice is so well seasoned and perfect texture and the tortilla was so fresh and yummy!!! The burrito was still good the next day as leftovers, which is hard to do for a burrito. Southern California, born and raised. I grew up spoiled for amazing Mexican fare, with the hands-down best hole-in-the-wall joint in the area being easily our favorite lunch destination as college students. While the Twin Cities has some decent Hispanic eateries, none ever quite hit the spot. This might either be it or at least the closest I've come yet. It was so good, in fact, that I didn't forget to take a photo after a bite, I just chose not to. Om nom nom! The Cinco de Mayo/Dia de La Madre street fair was in full effect, so the 20-minute line I waited in might not be typical. Why am I checking this place out instead of enjoying the fair's street fare? The lines for the popular spots are insane, I'm the lead for a short-staffed event, my team highly recommends this place, and I don't have cash on me and am not spending time on finding out which street vendors take card. "Hi there, what's the difference between a burrito and a California burrito?" The California burrito has fries in it. I'm starving, so: "Sure, why not." With everything? No idea what that means exactly. Line's long though, and I'm at the only register: "Sure, and a large horchata, please." Total of somewhere over $15. Tidy environment, with employees bustling around ensuring clean surfaces and floors. Given the amount of traffic, this was highly appreciated. Super packed due to the event, but I manage a quiet booth to relieve my legs going on 21,000+ steps that day. My number is called within minutes. They work fast! There's an indescribable chew to the thin wrapper ingredient of rolled food items when done well, be it the rice paper of a colorful spring roll or the flour tortilla of a hefty burrito. And this, this had that perfect bite to it. I was so taken by that alone that I happily focused on nothing but my food for the next 10 minutes. First corner bite revealed the glistening crisp-tender fries that somehow associated this burrito with my home state. Second bite smack in the middle uncovered a bright heap of green from a generous helping of fresh, creamy avocado - yes, please and thank you! Third bite showed the savory carne asada I'd opted for. Why is there lime in my photo? Because I've enjoyed adding lime to cut the overall salt in burritos since my first college order. Definitely a fan of the California burrito. So much so that I might pass on visiting the location close to me simply because the menu doesn't include that option. And I'll likely be visiting a location soon - already craving another! This was 2nd time eating here so I decided to try something random I've never ordered before, after peepin out the picture menu on the glass like a boomer at the local Chinese jernt, I ordered me a polo asado Alambre, the flavors combining between the grilled chicken, chorizo, bacon, peppers, onions, oaxaca chez cilantro n pineapple was just they even tossed in some limes and some pickelt radisheez in the box. This neighborhood spot is a hidden gem. I was happy the business not only sustained itself during construction but it thrived. The restaurant expanded into a business location that did not survive. Now, I must say, I love authentic Mexican food. So when I found Pineda Tacos it made me happy. I was excited to try their horchata and tamarind drinks. On a couple occasions I tried their beef dish: Meat plate special: Steak and chicken with rice and beans with salad and guacamole. Then other time I have enjoyed the seafood and meat combo dish :Mar y Tierra also known as Earth and Sea: Shrimp and Steak Combo. Both dishes were delicious. I loved every bite because the meal was full of flavor. The rice and beans are my favorite. The beans are the perfect texture and has a nice balance of spices. Not a business you should be supporting. I ordered via DoorDash and they took my money just for three door dashers to visit their store and leave EMPTY handed because they simply didn't want to make the food. I finally called them and the lady in the phone lied saying that a driver picked it up a few minutes (DoorDash lets you track the drivers and the new one hadn't even gotten there yet). This is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, taco spots in the city. It's tucked away, but they recently expanded and have more seating -- which means business must be booming! It's authentic Mexican food. My go-to order is three asada tacos with a side of rice and a side of guac. The chicken tacos lacked juiciness when I was last there, but to be fair, that was the only time I ordered chicken. I'm really picky about my 'Spanish' or 'yellow/red rice' but their rice is my favorite! I've tried other things from here, but the quesadilla is my favorite. I love that it comes with rice, beans, and a little side salad (tomatoes, lettuce, and guacamole!). I was in the Lake and 4th street neighborhood to check out an amazing organization called Urban Ventures. While visiting with a staff member we took a tour of the neighborhood where I noticed a diverse variety of cultural foods on every corner. After telling our host I missed the Mexican food from California she said we have to try tacos at Pineda, they are simply amazing. As we walked in the place looked and smelled like any good taco shop in Southern California. The seating and decor is simple but the food is incredible. I ordered the carne asada taco plate and had my friend try the barbacoa, a burrito and some drinks. The chips are home made and the food is outstanding. For people coming from the west coast, this is the best place I have found to date. The food is moderately priced, the wait wasn't long and I would drive from my suburb in a heartbeat for. a torta, taco or burrito. Like the story of Cinderella. The outside of this place doesn't look like much. Nor does the inside, but the food is where its at. Yours truly loves some carnitas tacos, but ever since my local Chili's has gotten rid of the pork on their menu; due to people's fear of pork and religious reasons. (Not hating on people's religion, however, those who are scared of pork because pigs will eat anything.... Cows eat anything too...) When I came in and I saw that they had carnitas, I knew exactly what I was going to order. Some delicious Carnitas tacos. My partner had ordered a steak burrito. Both of our meals came with chips; that were clearly made in house, and salsa. The chips were super crunchy, and thick. I loved them. Not hot, but that is no biggie. The medium salsa wasn't spicy, but more flavory. The carnitas tacos were the most flavorful, warm, tasty, mouth watering taco that ever taco-ed. Literally my mouth waters as I think about it. The steak burrito (cause... well I had to take a few bites, comeon....) was super delicious as well. A heafty portion that reminded me of what Chipotle used to be. The flavors were on point, the temp from the meat binded it all together to make what I would call.. a burrito right off of the stove. Bottom line: I loved my experience here, and I can't wait to come back. Closest thing to Texas tacos I have had yet. read more

Love this spot! I'm originally from Southern California & 100% Mexican, so my standards can be pretty high when it comes to finding good, authentic tasting Mexican food! Although not exactly like home, it sure beats a craving when I have one. So far I have only had burrito's and tacos to which I can surely attest, are very delicious. My favorite burrito is the desayuno (breakfast) chorizo and egg. Super filling and tasty after a rough night out (you know).. Fantastic hole in the wall taqueria. My comrade and I visited for lunch the other day and he introduced me to the taco bravo - hard shell taco inside a tortilla with all the taco fixings. I chose the carnitas for my protein, which is a little bit of a test of quality.... there are some real "meh" carnitas out there. But they had great carnitas with lots of flavor. This is one of the good taquerias on East Lake St., just west of 4th Ave. It's always been good when I've gone. I just had the enchilada platter with 2 barbacoa and 1 chorizo. It's a small place but works well. Every dish I've ever had has been good. The price is reasonable so it attracts families. Superb tacos - my new favorite, edging out La Hacienda and Los Ocampo. I'm constantly longing for something like the plethora of taco places in SF and LA (not to mention time I've spent in DF and elsewhere in the taco homeland) and Pineda ranks right up with the best of them. Ordered tacos de tripa and tacos de buche. Tacos are meant to be a masterpiece of simplicity, a showcase for delicious meat. This is exactly what Pineda does best. Tripa and buche were served on simple small corn tortillas, garnished with onions and cilantro. I asked for a bit of Salsa Verde on the side (which was excellent and packed with chile flavor). Buche - to me the king of taco meats - melted once it hit my lips, full of luscious and very fresh meaty flavor - perfectly executed. Just a bit of carmelization on the edges from the seconds it spent on the grill. Tripas - outstanding, maybe even better than the buche. Full-force maillard effect on all sides, a sign of a master on the grill. No off flavors. Fresh, meat-filled mouthfulls, soft and falling apart at each bite. I had earlier confused this with the Pineda closer to Hiawatha. If you are a taco afficianado, don't make the same mistake - hit up this spot soon and often. Extra credit assignment: this place makes massive breakfast platters for 5.99 with your choice of any of their freshly prepared meats. I would recommend any, but particularly tasty is the Tinga ("chicken in chipotle sauce" on the English menu). Tender chicken in a mild chile sauce scrambled with eggs with perfectly seasoned rice and beans - this is a breakfast that will last you through til dinner. The super filling and flavorful breakfasts at Pineda Plus remind me of the little Mexican restaurants that one finds just about every block throughout Los Angeles. read more
