By far my favorite taco place in Jax. This isn't a fancy place, it's super casual, a hole in the wall if you will but definitely delicious food. They have a huge variety of speciality tacos plus many other options. Everytime I've been here I've had great service, staff has always been very friendly and food comes out fast. It always surprises me how many people say they love Mexican food, but they have never actually had it. What they are referring to are the places that serve piles of seasoned ground beef or dry shredded chicken, topped with sour cream, queso sauce, and melted Kraft singles rolled up in, on top of, or served next to dinner-plate-sized flour tortillas. Occasionally there is some shredded iceburg lettuce. You know, for vegetables. These places are not necessarily bad; they have their place in the world. But they are not Mexican, and they make up the abundance of the cuisine in the Jax area. So when I come across a real Mexican place, it really means something to me. Taco Libre is set back in a less-than-appealing strip mall on Beach Blvd. The menu is definitely stocked with classic, real Mexican dishes, with some Americanized options for your friend who 'loves Mexican' but needs his flour tortilla fix and isn't really sure if he's ready to venture into lengua country. The best feature is that it is one of the very few spots I've found in Jax that serves (in my opinion) the true pinnacle of Mexican cuisine: the huarache. A huarache is masa that's griddled into a thick pancake (think frybread) and topped with meat (carnitas in my case), onions, creme fresh, queso fresco, etc. I also ordered 2 tacos - 1 al pastor (marinated pork) and 1 asada (steak). Everything was super flavorful, well seasoned and cooked, and it came with an insanely good house-made salsa. Were there flaws? Sure. The masa in the huarache was a little too dense and fried a little too hard, they got part of my order wrong (probably a language thing - wasn't too upset about it), and the ambiance in the place was so-so. But it's family run, and they are doing delicious food from their own culture. I will be back to support them. read more

Went here for the first time last week and tried out the sriracha shrimp, fiery fish, mushroom chicken and shredded chicken tacos. If I had to rank them I'd say 1. Fiery fish: the avocado really ties this one together 2. Sriracha shrimp: LOVED the shrimp, so delicious and appreciated the large size so each bite is covered 3. Shredded chicken: your classic chicken taco 4. Mushroom chicken: this one was a little salty for my liking but still good. The cheese on this one was fantastic Overall this place was a pleasant surprise! We drove by craving some tacos and this place certainly delivered on that end. I love to eat here some Tuesdays. It is normally busy these days due to our company having a large staff meeting and it is close for lunch. I ordered the 3 Mexican Tacos for the 1st time and they was delicious. The service is fast as usual. They have a few tables outside so you do not have to sit in the restaurant. Staff is friendly. Who don't love a good taco, well let me say you will not be disappointed. My husband found this spot going to another one of our favs in the area and we decided to give them a try ( home) but while out we decided to drop in for lunch before a movie. The restaurant was fairly empty because of the time of day that we decided to drop in we received it right away. Our waitress came to our table and she took our drink order. She waited on other customer. She then came and took our food order, and our food was delivered to us very hot and fresh within about 20 minutes. My only issue was I saw her sweeping and touch the bottom of the of the dustpan, but I did not see her wash your hands so I did call her over to the table and asked her about that because I knew that she will be delivering our food. She did indicate to me that she washed her hands in the back, but I did continue to see her wash her hands in the front from that point moving forward. It's just very important that we be an advocate for ourselves when we are eating out at restaurants when we see something that makes us Uncomfortable. She was very pleasant in her response, and we enjoyed our tacos and our mango margarita. We would definitely visit the location again. read more

Yummy food, super helpful staff. We were craving tacos and this place did not disappoint! The corn tortillas are perfectly flavored with their well-seasoned steak, carnitas ans chicken. The nachos were delicious and the quesadilla had just the right cheese and chicken combo. We also drank horchata, the tamarind water and the Jamaican water (sorrel). The horchata was something unexpected with its cinnamon-y rice-milk flavor. It was like a dessert but not too sweet. The tamarind water is also sweet with a bit of a tang (super yummy) and the Jamaican water was a light sorrel-type drink with a cranberry vibe. The staff were great and let us try the drinks beforehand because we couldn't decide. And since they were all yummy we went with all of them! I didn't check out the dine-in services since we ordered take out so I can't comment on that experience or the bathrooms. But if you're in the mood for yummy Mexican food, you should check this place out. read more

Fresh chips and great salsa. Not too watery. I ordered three tacos. Fiery fish taco has a light and even batter. The fish has the right amount of firmness and has a generous amount of sauce. Surf and turf also used a lot of sauce and was amazing. Usually, I think surf and turf is overrated, but this taco makes it work. The shrimp was fat and grilled just right. The steak was also incredibly tender and well marinated. The savoriness of this is really well done. After the surf and turf, I was surprised by the subdued, earthy flavor of the lengua taco. Of course, it makes perfect sense to have a surf and turf explode with juicy sauciness while the umami of lengua is simply highlighted by cilantro and onion, but not every restaurant thinks like this. This place is too cool!! Decorated with the Luchadores wrestling mask and such all over ( think Nacho Libre) I loved it as soon as we walked in! Our server was a sweet heart, and helped us with the menu, they even had things I had never heard of! What!! I'm like a Mexican food expert!! Lol! They have a Mexican version of pizza, and sopes which are corn cakes topped with meat and toppings I was blown away by the "Gordita" ( lil fatty...lol) it was a corn cake split and filled with marinated shredded chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese ( similar to an arepa) I added some guac and oh man it was tasty! San Pablo restaurant I've been ordering a takeout Especial Burrito nearly every Sunday since August 1, 2021. I'm typically happy with the experience. I tip pretty well, 30% range & that's for nothing. I don't get service; I don't get seconds on chips and salsa as I would if I were dining in. On May 30th 2022 about 4:pm I placed 2 orders online and paid in advance. I got there, opened the bag to inspect, the order wasn't right and I was caused to wait in a basically empty restaurant to point it out. When I notified the cashier the order was incorrect I was then told I would be required to pay an additional $3.50 for the chips and salsa for the 2nd order. The manger was rude and took a posture of intimidation. I don't feel much like tipping anymore but I can't punish the Sunday staff for one jerk. The staff on Sundays have always been great. The manager on Memorial Day was a total A-hole. In a lot of instances this would be enough for me to stop patronizing an establishment. But I like the burrito too much to do that. read more

Still amazing as always! I stopped in on 6/4 for some Fiery fish tacos to go. I ask for the red cabbage,onion and cilantro mix on the side so I can pick out the red cabbage. Went to Taco Libre for Cinco De Mayo, arrived around 5:15 with a party of 8. Actually got a table pretty quick, DJ playing music out front with a carnival type environment. Ordered a house margarita as this was the only type being served and not very impressed with with taste or any thing on the glass like sugar or salt. Kind of watered down and tasteless. Chips and salsa nothing special. Ordered pollo ranchero and it was very tasty. Restaurant kind of hot and chaotic but maybe it was the holiday. Will go back and try again. read more

The quesobirra taco was stupendous. If you are not a fan of corn tortillas however just know that the corn tortilla can over power some of the other flavors. I also had the surf and turf taco and the toppings were a little sparse. Everything was extremely tasty and the staff was friendly. I've been to Taco Libre a couple of times and am always satisfied. It's not the BEST Mexican I've ever had but a solid GOOD. The nacho chips & salsa are OK- like I said I've had better. They could be fresher. Main wise I've had the Baja Salad which I really enjoyed as well as the Grilled Chicken Fajitas. Both portions were satisfactory. Between the two- I preferred the Grilled Chicken Fajitas. They were served piping hot which I always appreciate and were a huge portion. I ate until I was full and then still had half to take home. Yum! Stopped in for lunch and had great tacos, chips and salsa at Taco Libre. It's in a strip mall so not much too look at but inside was bright and cheery with TVs with football games on. Where to start. 1. Nacho chips tasted old & like they were fried in lard. Salsa tasted straight from a can. Bad first impression. 2. Tacos were open faced topped with a ton of shredded lettuce, a little Mexican cheese & tomatoes. The steak was as tough as shoe leather. 3. Flautas were densely packed with unseasoned shredded chicken with zero flavor. Four of them surrounded a "salad" of shredded lettuce, a few chopped tomatoes & Mexican cheese. A small quaint little place. The place appears to be kept clean. We did notice some wear and tear on chairs and tables. Their outside seating is dog friendly. The menu seems to be the same as many new Mexican places. The menu here did have a few different a la cart taco options of original recipes. This place is a seat yourself restaurant. The service has a fast turnover time. Our drinks were kept full. All the food we ordered were worth the cost. They do NOT have a wifi service. They do have a 10 % military discount. read more
