It's kind of what you'd expect from delivery Mexican in Hamden, CT. The value is fine but it's definitely lacking in flavor. A little spice never killed anyone but the fear of spice killing the locals has likely disappointed many. If you are really craving delivery "south of the border" food...and that border is in Cheshire, than this place works out ok. It's ok and that's ok. read more

Got the chilli fajita and guac quesadilla. Both were okay but nothing special. I'll probably be back to see if they have better offerings.

Great Mexican food for the price and the owners are very nice people. I love the fajita lunch special, quesadilla, and burrito. Give them a call! read more

Ill tell you why it gets 5 stars. Good food and good prices. As long as you expect nothibg else for a take out plsce then you will agree. I have taken many of my friends here , who all have pretty different tastes, and they all liked it. As i said before , good food and good prices. Expect nothibg more. read more

I used to order take out from this place all the time when I lived in Hamden. The food is good for the price. It's a huge step above taco bell, but not fancy mexican dining. The nachos are delicious. read more

Efficient, consistent, and inexpensive. The steak is delicious btw.

Taco King is a great restaurant to stop buy for quick delicious mexican food. Their chimichangas are the bomb! Beside the weird bag that come with it, it tastes amazing and i would defiantly recommend this. I defiantly will come back in the future! read more

Love this place!! Soft shell steak tacos with the chile sauce and sour cream!! Take the chile sauce and mix it with the sour cream and dip your food in it is way better then you would think!! read more

**WARNING** This place is probably the worst mexican food I have ever eaten. Let me start at the beginning: I went into this 'quality mexican food" venue, and as soon as I walked in, I felt it was reminiscent of a dingy chinese food take-out place. It was really dirty and really not sanitary at all. Location aside, I ordered a chicken burrito with guacamole and sour cream. I brought it back to my dorm only to find my burrito lacked guacamole AND sour cream. Mis-order aside, the chicken was awful and the burrito was packed with more lettuce than anything else. I truly feel like I could get a better tasting burrito or taco from Taco Bell. This is a completely serious review, so I am warning you all: please do not go here-- you'll thank me in the long run. read more

Definitely not the fanciest, but worth every penny. This is the Mexican version of a Chinese restaurant, largely due to the fact it is run by Asians, but that's beside the point. The food is always good and service is always hospitable. The best part is like a Chinese restaurant they deliver. Their tacos, tostadas & fajitas are well above par. My least favorite is probably the rice and that is still decent. Can't beat the convenience & prices. read more

Love this place for take out / delivery. The black bean taco is amazing. I normally get it with the chicken or vege burrito. nom.

Amazing Mexican food! Highly recommend. This is down the street from my house and one of my go to takeout options. There are a few tables inside but I always take it home. SO good. The shrimp nachos are delicious! And their tostada salads are also a winner. read more

We also order takeout from Taco King. The owners are very nice and they are always speedy with the food. The tacos are great. The steak taco is my fave, but everything we try is good there. The chips and salsa are amazing!! Best salsa around here... I wish they'd see a line out the door with how good it is. Definitely try this place!!! read more

Ordered through Yelp. Estimated time was 45-60 minutes and it took about 70 minutes. Paid for guacamole that we didn't get. I'm sure I could've called back, but after waiting an hour and ten minutes, I didn't feel like waiting any longer. Black bean tacos weren't great; the black beans are very, very sweet. We got cheesy nachos as well which was like 30ish tortilla chips with tomatoes, sour cream, and jalapeños. There were black beans on about 5-10 chips, and cheese on maybe 5 chips. Too much sour cream ruined a few chips. The best thing we ordered were fries. Won't be ordering from here again. read more

An Asian take on mexican food! At least once a month I get the quesidillas there. Tortillas made fresh to order.

This is quite a find if you live in the Hamden/New Haven area. The food is always fresh and is dirt cheap when compared to other cuisine in the area. They will customize any order, no hassle no fuss. The wait time is what you would expect... Between 10-30 minutes depending on the size of your order. The only two downsides are: virtually no atmosphere/room for dining in and terrible parking. They deliver in reasonable time so my advice is to get the food delivered and enjoy. read more

Been going here for years- food has been consistently delicious and I have yet to try something I did not like. We order dinner here from work all the time, the shrimp is amazing, the tortillas are fresh made and tasty. Also not super greasy and the have super tasty vegetarian options. Not cheap, but not expensive, and the quality is outstanding, I tell everyone I can about this place! read more

Delicious!!! I don't know why people have such negative comments. What do you expect from a small storefront in Hamden CT that does mainly takeout??? I love the food and it's cheap!! read more

It's not typical Mexican, but still really good food! If you looking for something out of the norm. This is the place to go.

This is a takeout Mexican restaurant. Being from Texas, this has become my go to place for fajitas in the northeast. The flour tortillas are excellent and the beef fajitas are respectable- much better than the nearby Ixtapa restaurant. This is not a gourmet restaurant. But if you want something more akin to Tex Mex and a few steps above Moe's this place hits the mark. They do deliver. read more

The burrito was sweet... like if someone made it with baked beans and corned beef... so upsetting. Even tried putting hot sauce on it, but that didn't help. Fast service and nice people but this is NOT MEXICAN FOOD! Cant get weird taste out of my mouth. :( read more

Not so bad for quick take out food. It is the kind of place you go without having high expectations so then come away pleasantly surprised.

Don't bother. This place is just crap. This is about as Mexican as Old El Paso products. I feel like most of the products are frozen and just reheated. I'd hope when I order from a Mexican restaurant I'd get better quality then what I'd get at a Bar during happy hour, or what I could throw together myself. Seasoning was non-existant. Basically you can expect the same quality "Mexican food" that would be served in an elementary school lunch. Better meal at Taco Bell. read more

this place is dirty and the food is disgusting I ordered food a week ago I never complain but this food was gross I walked in too complain a week later cause I can't stop thinking how dirty and inedible it was and the owner got in my face and pretty much wanted too fight me when I finally stood up he finally backed down worst experience with food I had in 35 years they are for sure nasty dirty business owners read more

Ok I will just say I would never call this Mexican food. I will start by saying I ordered here because I'm pregnant and tired and my husband was away at a business meeting. It was very easy and convenient to order online. Delivery was here in 30 minutes, which was faster than I was expecting. The food was just... Weird. It tasted like they tried to make Mexican food with leftover Chinese chicken. (I didn't realize it was owned by a Chinese family until after I read reviews just now.) It wasn't terrible, it just was nothing like I was expecting. Enchiladas had no sauce and were filled with onions, tomatoes, and peppers. Tacos are like Taco Bell style, with actual steak, but the steak was still pink, so I only had one bite because I'm pregnant, and shouldn't eat raw meat. Quesadilla again tasted like bourbon chicken inside a tortilla. The best thing was the beans, which tastes like bush's baked beans, but they are black beans- again it did not taste like Mexican food. I do have to also say there was a hair... It wasn't on the actual food, it was on the inside of the styrofoam... I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Maybe I was expecting too much... read more

After moving to this area (walking distance) a couple years ago I wanted to love this place, even after seeing the tiny restaurant with "Authentic Mexican" boldly written above its entrance devoid of even the slightest Hispanic flare. Your first experience with Taco King is the poor parking situation (yeah I've actually parked in the side alley lol), and then once entering you hesitate for a second, wondering if you walked into the correct establishment since the staff is well, not Hispanic (hesitation upon entry of any establishment is always a red flag). My fears of taco-bell style service were assuaged when the very polite woman taking the orders/running the register asked me for my order. Though this isn't a 'sit down' restaurant I would still call taking orders as 'service' so I must give the service here an excellent rating as she has been very pleasant each time I have gone in here. Now on to the food, 2 star at best. Premade and sitting in vats, portions are below average if compared relatively to standard Mexican portions (yes I know the establishment isn't run by anyone who could be remotely confused for being Spanish but still, it's advertized as such). 10$ minimum for credit/debit card purchases means if you don't have cash you're not getting a quick, cheap meal (once again in contrast to traditional Mexican/Hispanic small establishments). Extra charges for sour cream or guacamole which means if you are interested in more than a pinky fingers serving of either you have to pay (guess that's good if you have a credit card to try and hit that 10$ minimum). The food tastes decent but you just never get the feeling the quality is that much better than Taco-Bell. Parking is bad, misleading signs, average food, and if you're a 'card' person you might as well go 30 seconds down the road to Ixtapa where you'll get much better food for the same amount you're going to get charged and not leave wondering if the attempt at selling cheap Mexican food fails they'll simply change a few signs around and be a Asian take-out place instead. Once again, very nice people in there, so it's always worth a try if you're still on the fence. read more

We love their burritos & fajitas. They may not be the traditional tacos burritos fajitas but their food is delicious and I look forward every other week on ordering online. It's very small it's more of a takeout but I would definitely recommend trying it read more

I have gotten take out from here plenty of times and everything was perfect every-time. You get a lot for your money as well. The nacho's are awesome along with their tacos and everything else I tried so far. I will be coming back for a long time. read more

Do not eat at Taco King. The food here is disgusting. I ordered the wings to see if they would be any good; they were horrendous. They were soggy and tasted sour. The "blue cheese dressing" tasted more like soured milk. I also got a chicken hard-shelled taco. Thinking, how can one mess up a taco, right? Well Taco King must take cooking badly as an art form because the taco was beyond rancid. I literally had to spit it all out of my mouth. I will never ever eat here again and neither should anyone who wants to save their taste buds. I was actually afraid I was going to get food poisoning. Nearly all of my "food" was thrown away. read more

The prices are too high now, the delivery was always pretty slow but now they can't get to my house within an hour and a half, it's crazy the delivery guy was rude when I asked for my change (assuming I'd give it to him for a tip) but when you take two hours you don't deserve a Tip the quesadillas are great but you always have to re heat them when you get them. $16 was way to much for plain nachos and two quesadillas mid as well go to Taco Bell at least it's hot and you save 10 bucks. read more

This Chinese-run Mexican place is one of my favorites when I'm tired and need some comfort food. It is mainly a takeout/delivery place, and it has zero atmosphere so I wouldn't recommend it for eating in. They make their tortillas from scratch and they are flattened and grilled when you place your order. Food is decent, service is friendly and the prices are cheap. No liquor, beer, etc. read more
