Interior ( dine-in area)

So the pictures of this beautiful, bright, fresh looking food is what drew me to this place and when I got my food it looked beautiful just like it was out of a food magazine! A clear description would be beautiful, mouth watering, and/or picturesque! But that's where the amazement stopped. The place was completely empty that day except for the ladies behind the counter. I looked over the menu. Went with pollo(chicken) tacos and then carnitas (pork) quesadillas just in case the tacos weren't enough. Well I went in for my first bite and it was filled with disappointment. Dry, overcooked (maybe old) chicken. The pico de gallo was nice, but it wasn't enough to help hydrate this dry crusty chicken. I stilled had hope for the quesadillas but already being a little leery, I inspected it first and eeeewwww sour cream. Nowhere on the wall menu description did it mention sour cream. So I gave them away to a client of mine. She said they weren't good. She did manage to find some sour cream free pork to let me taste and one word comes to mind... DRY. this was just as bad as the chicken. It actually reminded me of old food at a buffet that nobody eats and so it sits around where the sides become dry, crusty, and overcooked... I wanted to like this place. It is convenient for me when I'm in the area and the prices are pretty low. But for the quality of food I recieved, it was a waste of my money.

Great, quality food. Good prices, and the tacos bussin bussin. :):):):):):):)):):):):):):):):):):):)

Oh so good!

Great chorizo and al pastor. The carne asada was OK but a generous dollop of salsa made it much better. The horchata was great, the service was friendly. This is a place where $5 can make you stupid happy and change your perspective on the whole day. I love Mexican.

Little bit of groceries

Very impressed with the food! The restaurant could use some updating for sure (very run down, ripped seats etc) but the Mexican food is really great and fresh, affordable too. Very minimal groceries for a grocery store (just a few items). This place is great for a quick bite or a grab and go, the carnitas tacos are great and so are the burritos, I think they make their own tortilla chips. Yum! Also love the pico de gallo. Can't wait to come back. Seriously yummy.

carnitas tacos which come with chips and pico de gallo

A place so good that I had to write a review the same day, even though I was torn about writing a review (more reviews can lead to more people visiting a place which can lead to tiny gems like this getting discovered by a larger crowd which can lead to me having to wait in lines...and on and on....) Anyway - this place is amazing. Weekday almost 6pm and no one was there except me. Granted, this place is totally unassuming. But it's an absolute hidden gem and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it via Yelp! I went for the carnitas tacos - you get 4 of any taco, and they come with chips and pico de gallo for a grand total of $6. Amazing! Reminded me so much of tacos you'd get from a really great taco truck or taqueria in Queens (basically the east coast golden standard). They're small with double corn tortillas, and dressed simply with the meat of your choice, cilantro, onion, and lime wedges on the side. I utilized the bottles of green sauce and hot sauce that were brought to me to add a little extra flavor, though the tacos really hold their own...I just like my heat! This place is so reasonable, so cheap, and so delicious that I know I will become a regular. I can't wait try all of the other tacos and items on the menu.

Awesome food duhhh

Awesome authentic Mexican food made in a small place by real people. My family and I have been looking for a real good Mexican place and this is the joint! We make it a point to always have Jarritos sodas that you pop open on the wall old style. Yes the place is not In The best condition( ripped seats some times there's food on the floor from previous customers it might even be grungie at times) but that all adds character and on occasion if you show up before they close they have run out of things ( at this moment they have run out of the steak for the night but again it's 1/2 hour before close) but they still will substitute they run out of guacamole they have no problem giving you sliced avocado but the 2 people that run it do a spectacular job at cooking. The price is right! Affordable and a BYOB establishment. Frequently frequented! One thing this place can use........ toothpicks

They have a true authentic Mexican food menu as you can see from the menu above the counter

This spot is great for quick Mexican takeout. The nachos are really good. They take phone orders, and the service is always reliable.

Menu is a little light. The Taquitos Dorados are great and the guacamole is some of the best I've ever had. Made fresh.

Hair in the food. That's always a deal breaker. Some things we ordered tasted good; some things were not so fresh. The lettuce was brown.

Nestled just off route 5 in Wallingford, an unassuming gem awaits the discerning palates of true connoisseurs of Mexican food. Taqueria Mexico beckons those who drive by with an orchestra of menu items that have fresh ingredients and hearty fillings every day of the week. Beginning with the chorizo tacos, you find yourself enjoying an incredible mix of delectable flavors. A delicate dance between the assertive kick of chili and earthy embrace of herbs paints an artful portrait on your palate. Then, a true marvel unfurls with their barbacoa burritos; within these perfectly soft tortillas lie the whispered secrets of slow-cooked meats and seasoning. Tender shreds of barbacoa weave a tale, each bite bursting with flavor, and showcasing the dedication of the staff working at this amazing taqueria. Next, the grande nachos, an expanse of delight that has a palette of flavors which converge into a kaleidoscope of textures - crispy chips, melted queso, jalapenos, beans, and a cascade of toppings which perfectly traverse the spectrum from fiery to fresh. Each chip, a vessel of indulgence, provides a plethora of sensations playing upon the taste buds. It's a sprawling masterpiece, an ode to conviviality and shared moments of unabashed enjoyment between family, friends, or even when you're flying solo. Taqueria Mexico stands as a testament to the power of flavors that linger, to culinary artistry that dances between tradition and innovation. Each dish speaks volumes in whispers and shouts, inviting you to partake in a narrative spun with elegance, heart, and an unwavering commitment to the craft of cooking this style of fare. As you step back into the world beyond, the echoes of these flavors continue to serenade your senses--a lingering memory of a journey that was--beckoning you back with its siren song, unsatisfied until you return again.

We wanted something quick and easy while still supporting local, and this was perfect. We dined in and the tacos were at our table in under 5 minutes. They brought over homemade sauces too! Delicious quesadilla and we loved the variety of tacos we picked out. Double shelled too so you know it's legit! Possibly the best and most authentic tacos in Wallingford. No frills but 10/10 food and service!
