This is a staple fast food chain in the Midwest. I like everything on the menu but my favs are Super Nachos or small super nacho if you're watching your figure and hard shell beef tacos. Potato Oles are a must have. Order them extra crispy. The 'special salt' on them makes them more than just a tator round! The staff is friendly. Prompt service but sometimes the drive up is slow. I like the food IF you can actually get to it without a car. I'm an SDSU student who lives close enough to walk. 3 times I've walked there and there is a sign on the door saying "understaffed. only doing drive thru"...OK I'm fine with that. But wait! There's more! How come when I'm walking away I see all the employees out at the dumpster in a group talking, laughing, and sneaking out back? Nobody is inside. Honestly I see this is just being lazy when the drive through has no cars and really not that much people even go there to go inside... All I see is laziness but by all means Prove me Wrong cause all the evidence points to the contrary... We eat here at least once a week. It's always decent never outstanding. It's definitely a lot healthier than all the other fast food chains (as far as carb loading hamburger and sub buns go). Definitely a go. read more

This place is straight trash, I drove up there around 11:25 or 11:30 the workers were standing outside taking a smoke break and told me that they were closed when on google it said they were open until 12 and on yelp it says they are open until midnight so next time you decide coming to this piece of trash plan on coming 2 hours before close if you still want food read more

Last year had I review TJ's I probably would have given them 4 stars. After all they were the only fast food mexican place in town and come on - potato oles with nacho cheese are worth an extra star alone. Recently TB opened up and lately they have been getting most of my business. It's nice to have something new. Last week I was craving those oles and so back to TJ's I went. Ordering about the same amount of food (for 3) I was surprised at how much more the total was at TJ than TB. About $8-9 more for a comparable meal. Food v. Food comparison I would give the edge to TJ, but when you factor in cost...now to so much. Anyway I gave them 3 stars which I think is fair all things considered. read more

The food tastes good but after 30 minutes in the drive-thru, I got home and found they had forgotten my cheese AND the rest of my order was absolutely wrong. I was looking forward to my Cajun Chicken taco quesadilla and I received 2 plain beef, cheese, and lettuce tacos. Not exactly the supper I was hoping for. And it wasn't very easy to check my order before I left the drive-thru. I wasn't going to go back so I called them and I was directed to the manager. Ha! It's unfortunate the Brookings seems to like chain fast food more than its other dining options. It's a short walk from campus and there are daily specials that make it possible to eat here every day. You get what you order at Taco John's. Hot, fast food at a decent price. I love the Brookings Taco John's but I think it may be the only good location in South Dakota (skip the Huron, Madison, and Sisseton ones for sure). read more

I always enjoy going to taco johns for lunch or diner. It is conveniently located just a little bit off campus for all your midnight food needs. Its cheap, fast, and above all good food. Potato Ole's are definitely worth your time. I have yet to find something else that tastes similar to them. read more
