While passing through Dell Rapids during one of our little road trip adventures, my husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to stop in and give it a try. One thing that immediately caught our attention was the building itself. Dell Rapids has a great deal of historic charm, and the restaurant is housed inside one of the town's older historic structures, which gives it a lot of personality before you even sit down. The atmosphere carries some of that preserved small-town character that makes these Midwest road trip discoveries enjoyable in the first place. The presentation of the food was honestly quite beautiful. The plating was polished, colorful, and thoughtfully arranged in a way that immediately raised our expectations. The dishes looked refined and carefully constructed, almost the sort of meals that make you instinctively reach for your phone to take photos before eating. Unfortunately, the actual flavors never really lived up to the visual presentation. That was the biggest disappointment for us. While everything looked appealing, most of the dishes wound up tasting fairly flat and underwhelming. Nothing was outright terrible, but very little had the depth, seasoning, or distinctiveness we were hoping for once we actually began eating. Service throughout the meal was decent enough, though the restaurant seemed somewhat overwhelmed at the time. There was a very large and extremely loud Friday gathering taking up much of the dining room and seemingly most of the staff's attention. It also appeared they may have been somewhat understaffed that afternoon, which likely contributed to the slower pacing and divided attention. Overall, the experience landed somewhere between average and slightly disappointing for us. Not actively bad, but not especially memorable either. The historic setting and attractive presentation certainly added points, but ultimately we left feeling underwhelmed by the food itself. read more

This hidden gem is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants nationwide. They have my wife's favorite margaritas as they have the best homemade mix. The service is always very attentive and quick. All of the items taste like they are homemade. It is very hard to find authentic chili rellenos but this place nails it. Chips are served warm and crispy and the salsa is amazing. If you are in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area it is worth the 20 min drive to El Mezcal in Dell Rapids! read more

My friend and I often use this as our meeting spot since she lives near Brookings and I'm in Sioux Falls. We are always greeted by their friendly staff immediately upon walking in. The chips and salsa are spot-on and the food is always fast to come out, steaming hot, and tasty. It's a pretty big place with dining available on two sides. This location is perfect! The cutest old style building with lots of space. Warm and friendly atmosphere. The food is excellent. Probably first time in my life where I exclaim "the mushrooms ate even yum!" The kids chicken strips are also lightly breaded which is great for my picky kid! The fries were nice and crispy. Amazing food, great staff, and the beautiful building they are in is absolutely stunning.

Rice was dry, felt like I could made better more fresher rice, salsa hit different hella good spicy but we tried the mild and that was very good, beans are beans, guacamole also be tasting good, chips felt like the were just heated up and brought out, main dish was mid the chick and stake was good seasoned but not a lot just few pieces that were at least two inch long but that dose not make up on how much onions and god Damn motha ducking bell peppers. Don't get wrong I love onions and bell peppers but holy shit that was more than I seen in my life they at least chopped up to hole onions and bell peppers also towards rhe botoon on finishing my meal it was heaps of oil on the bottom of fijjats read more
