We decided to make the trip (July 31st, 2025) to this beautiful, quiet little 50's style diner and…read morewe were greeted with tons of space and things to look at (an aquarium with delightful tropical looking fish, wall art featuring local photos from 75 years ago onward, cool cultural photos and posters from the 50's, lots of antiques, etc.). The food was very enjoyable, I got the Chicken Strip basket and it was delicious, real chicken, good fries and toast. My family got the Pickle Burger ("really good"), the Cod Platter ("flaky and delicious") and the Reuben ("needed more sauerkraut, but otherwise good"), as well as the Cheese Curds which I think we all liked. The Waitress was fantastic, friendly and helpful. We did arrive directly before a special event that they were closing early for but they still let us sit and order even though we made them a little late, which we are extremely grateful for! That does not go unnoticed. A very friendly environment, it seems like a place that would be a local favorite. I'll definitely visit again, although we do live about 45 miles away, but it was rather enjoyable and a rare, unique little spot.

While passing through Dell Rapids during one of our little road trip adventures, my husband and I…read morestumbled upon this restaurant and decided to stop in and give it a try. One thing that immediately caught our attention was the building itself. Dell Rapids has a great deal of historic charm, and the restaurant is housed inside one of the town's older historic structures, which gives it a lot of personality before you even sit down. The atmosphere carries some of that preserved small-town character that makes these Midwest road trip discoveries enjoyable in the first place. The presentation of the food was honestly quite beautiful. The plating was polished, colorful, and thoughtfully arranged in a way that immediately raised our expectations. The dishes looked refined and carefully constructed, almost the sort of meals that make you instinctively reach for your phone to take photos before eating. Unfortunately, the actual flavors never really lived up to the visual presentation. That was the biggest disappointment for us. While everything looked appealing, most of the dishes wound up tasting fairly flat and underwhelming. Nothing was outright terrible, but very little had the depth, seasoning, or distinctiveness we were hoping for once we actually began eating. Service throughout the meal was decent enough, though the restaurant seemed somewhat overwhelmed at the time. There was a very large and extremely loud Friday gathering taking up much of the dining room and seemingly most of the staff's attention. It also appeared they may have been somewhat understaffed that afternoon, which likely contributed to the slower pacing and divided attention. Overall, the experience landed somewhere between average and slightly disappointing for us. Not actively bad, but not especially memorable either. The historic setting and attractive presentation certainly added points, but ultimately we left feeling underwhelmed by the food itself.

Sorry to say that the deep fried appetizers, onion rings and mini corn dogs, looked burnt and…read moredidn't taste good. I sent them back and they came out just as bad. One cost $7 and the other one $8. After that I changed my mind and did not order an entree. I had to go back on my word that I was taking my grandson out for lunch. The place could have been a whole lot cleaner. I wouldn't say it was filthy but I wouldn't say it was clean. The menus were actually sticky and had food and gunk stuck to them. The waitress was perky and friendly and running around doing her best to keep everyone attended to. When I told her that the food she brought out was subpar and I wasn't happy with it, she said that it was fine but she would get me replacements. It was moments later she came back with food that looked exactly the same. I told her that I wasn't convinced it wasn't the same food... I swear it was just a burnt as burnt looking as before but it turned out she was right. This time the mini corn dogs were burnt on the outside and still frozen in the middle. My son-in-law, the chef, tells me that it was because the oil was old and rancid. Apparently this gives all food the appearance of being burnt with a bad taste. What I didn't appreciate was that I was asked to pay for food that anybody would have raised an eyebrow at and treated like I was the problem. The cook even came out of the kitchen and tried to nonchalantly check out who I was. When I met her I she gave me a dirty look and marched back off into the kitchen. Not recommended. I won't ever go back. If they don't know enough to know that they're serving people bad food or have the professionalism to own up to it when they have, then I have no time for them.
