I went to this establishment to grab a buffett during my lunch hour while visiting town. The buffett was awesome and the staff was really nice. I would have given five stars, except the ceiling was leaking...a lot. I unfortunately sat at a booth before realizing I would be in the splash zone of a nearby drip. Small splashes hit my face and hands and I watched it splash my food. Not the most appetizing encounter. The owner saw me continually stack napkins to reduce the splash and came over, replaced the napkins with a bucket, and appologized about the roof. I don't know what plans there are to fix the roof problem, but the rest of the restaurant was nice. I guess my advice is go only on fair weather days. read more

What a pleasant departure from traditional pizza restaurants! Mr Brutally Honest and I were visiting his family in this quaint Midwestern town for a couple of days, and on the evening of our arrival, the Mister wanted pizza for dinner. So we figured, "Eh, what the hey?" It was just a few blocks down the road from our hotel, so off we went. The first thing that is different is the fact that it's buffet style ... the whole shebang. The had about five different pizzas ready for self-serve, plus a batch of freshly fried chicken, waffle fries, vegetables, and all sorts of other stuff. There was also a modest salad bar as well, of which I partook, because roughage is kinda hard to come by here in the Midwest. The bonus points go to the fact that when we paid for our meal (we both chose buffet), the cashier asked if there was a pizza we desired that wasn't currently being served. WHAT? No way! REALLY?? We said we'd like to see a Hawaiian (which they call a "Sweet Swine"), and within 10 minutes we were dining on fresh, hot Sweet Swine pizza, brought to our table and served for us ... fresh and hot and gooey. Now *that* is service. This, on top of the other foods available! Besides the Sweet Swine, we also tried The Bronco (all meat), the Buffalo Chicken, a Garlic Cheese and the Chicken Broccoli Alfredo (which neither of us really cared for). There was one pizza on the menu that I just couldn't bring myself to even contemplate: The BLT ... complete with lettuce and tomato and mayo. Uhhhh .... I think I'll pass, thank you! The finale was a thing they call "Cactus Bread" which is a desert pizza that is just ...... YUM. I especially liked their company's mission statement, which stated in part, "... we take a positive leadership position in the communities we serve while equipping our employees with tools to lead happy and productive lives." I'd have to say that had it not been for the BLT, there'd be a 5-star rating going on. May still be if we have a repeat performance of this visit. While visiting family in Madison, we always try to pick up Pizza Ranch at least once while we are here. They never seem to disappoint. The pizza is always pretty good and the customer service has always been excellent. This last visit we ordered the chicken because other family members raved about how great it is. Unfortunately, that was not my feeling. We got a family package that included mashed potatoes and biscuits with the chicken. The chicken was super greasy...like blot away the grease-greasy! The flavor and coating was really good though. Although the gravy was not my favorite they give you a ton of it with the potatoes. The biscuits were really good but were cold by the time we got home so a little time in the oven they were fresh tasting. All in all we will continue to frequent Pizza Ranch, but I'll stick with the pizza! read more

They don't have any damn cheese on the salad bar for my salad!!! I mean who the hell expects to have a salad without any cheese. We aren't in the damn USSR, for Christ's sake. Cheese is one of the first thing you put on a salad. Won't come back until there is cheese on the salad bar! read more

I was in Madison yesterday afternoon and had missed lunch. I thought I'd give Pizza Ranch a try. I'd never eaten one of their pizzas before and a few locals had recommended the place. I phoned in my order and spoke with Chris. He was pleasant on the phone and walked me through my medium "Stampede" combination pizza order process. My pizza was pretty much ready a few minutes later when I arrived, so wait time was not a problem. Chris was professional and polite so I'd say service was above average. I drove home and opened the box. The pizza looked really good, but this is where the wheels came off the trolley. I've had some great pizzas and I've had some not so great pizzas. This pizza was the worst pizza I have ever tasted. I should say it's the worst tasteless pizza I have ever had. The toppings offered little to please my taste buds. I could clearly see the olives, mushrooms, onion and meat but it was as it those ingredients had taken the flavor day off. If there was red sauce on that thing, it was extremely well hidden. The dough had a strange flavor; sort of a combination of stale bread and high school home economics, "first time I've ever tried making pizza dough" qualities. I had to brush my teeth to get the taste out of my mouth. I'm thinking I just caught the "chef" on a bad day or maybe it's a training issue. I may work up the courage to try a Pizza Ranch pizza again, but not real soon. read more

Well, updating this because while I feel the establishment is still a good place sometimes management can make questionable choices. Also be aware that the buffet closes strictly at 7 pm on Friday and they are completely inflexible on that point even if a ton of food is sitting there. read more

Manager took money and asked if any special requests. We asked for sweet swine on thin crust. They brought out the pizza and put it in the Buffett without telling us. The other pizza's on the Buffett were cold and old. Mens room was a disaster...messy and toilet broken... I almost fell as the base was broken. It also wouldn't flush. New management needed???? read more

We ordered the large pizza with a 10 piece chicken with cactus bread, to stay. When the food was ready they brought it to us in boxes, and we explained that we preferred it to stay. They told us that they always give it in boxes, and we are supposed to eat it straight out of the box. It's like they never heard of serving platters, and plates. read more

Pizza was good but we went there for their chicken. We sat there for 2 hours and no chicken other than wings. We got there around 6 pm and there were only about 10 other people there so they weren't very busy. We ask for chicken over and over and they said it was on it's way. The manager would hide when we come up to ask when it would be out. And yes we were polite even though it was hard because no one came out to tell us what the problem was or apologize for no chicken. Finally the cook came out to tell us the chicken was out, but after bitting into it we found it to be raw. This when we left. They use to be a 5 star but have slowly went down hill read more
