I did appreciate that we were seated right away (reservations took priority over walk ins) but it took about 10 minutes before we were handed waters and menus. It then took 30 minutes before we received our appetizer to which we were then told the rest of our food was done at the same time. Typically, I don't prefer to eat my appetizer at the same time as my entree, but in this case I worried with how slow of service we were receiving I wouldn't see my entree for another hour. Almost all of our food was amazing. I ordered a house salad and the Fillet of Beef with mashed potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and wild rice soup and the prime rib. He said the prime rib wasn't anything to write home about but it did the job. Overall, service was slow but everyone was super nice. I think they just need to hire a few more people which I know is difficult to do. I really hope this place can find the help they need because the food is so good and I want to see this place continue to succeed.

The bacon was that good high quality thick cut which was so good and perfectly cooked (must order!!) the eggs I got were scrambled with cheese and were diner style and perfectly cooked. The bananas pancakes themselves were some of the best I have had which says a lot, the bananas melted into the fluffy batter perfectly and they were unique in a good way. I wish I caught the name of who our server was because she was very nice and helpful. The ambiance was nothing special, just classic breakfast place, family friendly. I am a deep ihop lover and this place ALMOST made me switch sides, although ihop will remain in my heart this place is a great option as well!!

When we added our name to the waitlist at 9:00 AM on a Saturday for a party of four, our wait time was around 75 minutes. When we got there, we were seated promptly. However, our waitstaff didn't come to take our order promptly. We waited around 10+ minutes to put our order in. While they have the Toast app and devices, we weren't able to pay using Toast (with the QR code from the table). Ambiance: This place is huge. The seating is comfortable and the decor isn't tacky or kitschy. Food: My friend ordered the Swedish pancakes and thick-sliced bacon and had enough leftover to take home for the next day. My husband had the corned beef hash and was happy with his order. I had the Irish benedict which was a nice change from your typical benedict. While they advertise that the corned beef hash is homemade, it's not what I had expected. It seemed similar to others I've had that was served out of a can. Usually when it's homemade the corned beef and potato pieces are larger, but this seemed like canned hash you could buy at the store. Nonetheless, it was still really good. The coffee wasn't super strong, but wasn't "church coffee" either. Noise Level: For as busy as it was, I didn't find the restaurant to be so noisy that we couldn't hear each other talk. Service: As I mentioned, getting our orders taken took longer than we expected, but the waitstaff was very nice and attentive throughout the rest of our dining experience.

Yelp Review Prairie Lanes…read more We haven't been back in quite a few years now. Growing up in the Brookings community (the late 90s/2000s), we would often frequent this little family owned and operated bowling alley cafe. The food and drinks used to be of very good quality, but have since deteriorated as the years have gone by, much like the appearance of the whole building which, looks as though its coming down in some places. We've seen how dirty the kitchen has become, the off-putting odor of the establishment, and behind the bar was just as awful. All issues were a huge deterrent for us ever returning. I wouldn't recommend eating the food anymore. We've heard and witnessed the negligence of sanitation and food handling, if any protocol at all. During this particular visit, the man that made the food wasn't washing his hands at all before preparing pizzas or other food items. His hands and arms would be in slight contact with his clothing while preparing food items. Now days, there are gloves that are not latex or powdered, but he didn't wear any at all. Maybe, they're to cheap to purchase any?! Maybe, they don't know they even exist?! I would think that protecting customers from the germs on your hands would be a priority especially if you don't wash them! But, I shouldn't have expected that kind of standard, due to the conditions of everything. The bathrooms were horrifying! They smelled of urine and had a very odd and old reusable hand towel thing that has turned yellow/brown from the many years of people drying their hands on it. I decided to wait until we got back home to use the restroom. At this particular visit, there were the local alcoholics that seemed to flood the place and wasn't very pleasant. Disturbing, actually. I was scared to eat the food also, as I previously stated, there were no sanitation or food handling protocols in view. The tables were dirty and were sticky in some spots. Their glasses looked scummy, so I didn't even drink the water. The utensils seemed to be dirty as well. The soda machine looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in a year or two! There's rumor around town that there are new owners now so, maybe they'll make changes and update things? The whole place needs to be completely gutted. I hope that changes will be made for the better of our community, as there is a need for more entertainment. There isn't much to do here in Brookings for younger people as it is. We may return if word-of-mouth gets around that changes are being made.

The warm wooden digs and lively vibe make it a proper escape in Watertown, SD, though the only drawback is the constant buzz of chatter drowning out what should be some good ol' Dropkick Murphys tunes. I was particularly impressed by the great pastrami on homemade rye--tender, tangy meat stacked high on fresh-baked bread that could make even a New Yorker do a happy jig. Their bartenders are absolute gems, slinging drinks and banter with the charm of seasoned storytellers who somehow remember your name after one visit. One quirky touch is how the floors creak underfoot, like they're gossiping about all the pints spilled before you. Strangely enough, the soup of the day was tequila, a boozy curveball that had the whole place toasting with confused delight and empty bowls. The house brews hold their own, pairing like old friends with the hearty grub. All in all, Dempsey's is a witty, wonderful Watertown, SD gem.
