This place was great! We were visiting Brookings. Stopped in here and immediately it smelled like an old fashion pizza restaurant! It's a little old, but really cute and comfortable! Clean as well. The staff was great! We ordered a thin crust, large deluxe, and the crust was just right! Not cracker-thin! And the toppings were dispersed, beautifully, and just plain delicious! Visited George's while visiting Brookings on a recommendation from a local and she wasn't wrong! It was quiet when I was there on a Tuesday night, the waitress was attentive and friendly. I ordered the Greek Supreme and she suggested 1/2 gyro meat and 1/2 chicken when I couldn't decide and I'm so glad I took her suggestion! Off the chain! I travel every week and look for locally owned gems and we have a Diamond here in Brookings, SD. I had the buffet $7.99- great value- they make a Gyro pizza with cucumber sauce that is crazy best 'white sauce' pizza I've ever had. I am from NY and I don't take my pizza lightly but George's is alright with me! Next it was Wednesday so the special was spaghetti and meatballs. Well I was more than surprised at his homemade sauce that was rich and hearty all by itself. The meatballs were decent but I wanted that sauce so I didn't pay them much attention. :) If you are in SD and near this place ots worth the look. I came here to check after hearing that George's won the "best pizza in Brookings" contest held by a local radio station only to find it was lacking my 5 star review. Time to correct that oversight. Is George's the best pizza in Brookings? You bet they are. Well, they are if you want a pizza that tastes like it was made by hand using fresh ingredients versus one that tastes like it sat in a freezer for weeks or months before it was baked. But George's has much more than pizza, their Greek food is also amazing and allows me to get my Gyro fix and one of my close friends loves to go their for their pasta. George's features a newly remodeled dining area. They are most well known for their pizza, but their menu has a wide variety of food. The gyros are excellent and some of their pasta dishes are very good as well. But their pizza is far and away their best feature. I recommend the pan pizza, but they also offer a thin crust. They also have a lunch buffet every day, which I believe costs $8 Monday through Friday. The buffet usually only has two or three different pizzas out at a time, which can be frustrating, but it has an assortment of different salads and other food items. I was very disappointed in this restaurant. My coworkers and I, who are working in town for a short time, went to the George's expecting a small pizza joint. When we walked in, we realized it was a buffet. We asked for a menu and the waitress brought us some. We paged through and decided the buffet must be good since that is what everyone else was ordering. We were wrong. In addition, we sat for about ten minutes for the waitress to come back so we could tell her we were going to do the buffet (she admittedly told us she forgot about us). The buffet did not get filled almost the entire time we were there. The salad bar was out of several items and there were (maybe) two pizzas on the buffett at any given time. There was never any dessert pizza or basic favorites like cheese or pepporoni. The spaghetti was also out. They put cheese on top of the toppings, so every pizza looks the same and you have no idea what you are grabbing. This place might have had a different review if it were in the proper price point: about $5 for a buffet. We were very disappointed and most of us left still hungry. I went to George's for the lunch buffet along with some co-workers that recommended it. We walked past the buffet on the way to our table which gave me a chance to scope out what all was on it. I guess it's called a buffet since you serve yourself. Certainly not because of the numerous options available. Shortly after sitting down, I observed an unattended child stick her finger in the dessert pizza then put that same finger in her mouth. I was ready to walk out at that point, but couldn't. The salad bar portion of the buffet is really lacking. Pretty much only had lettuce, cheese and dressing to put on your salad, although they had a couple of variations of over dressed pasta salads. The pizza was alright. I'm a thin crust guy and all the pizzas on the buffet had thick pan crust. All the pizzas I observed seemed pretty greasy. I opted to pass on the dessert pizza given the finger tasting kiddo from earlier. I'd say that the buffet was a little over priced given the number of options and the service was extremely slow. Why this place has such high ratings is beyond me. I imagine most people who've gone here don't mind busying themselves with homework or running errands for an hour or so, because that's exactly how long it'll take to get your food. To be fair, I did not even have a chance to taste their supposedly good pizza since I walked out of the place after 45 minutes of waiting. So, this review is solely based on their god awful service. I went in there and got water and proceeded to wait. During my time, I noticed two things: 1. the waitress never came to check on me to refill my water or reassure me that the food was on the way. 2. another group of patrons who came 15 minutes after I did were served pizza slices before me. It was the latter that really broke the camel's back for me and I walked out. Had someone come by to at least apologize for my long wait I may have entertained the idea of staying in that shit hole. But let's be honest, there were only 2 other tables being waited on besides me so there was no excuse for neither wait nor the non-existant sevice. Needless to say I will not be going back. The slowest service ever! I sat down. Waited. Saw another sit down, ordered food, after they received their food I finally ordered. These other people ate and left. My food nowhere in sight. They serve downtown pizza out of a window to the bar crowd. It's a completely different style of pizza, and it's the best late-night pizza I've ever had. Hands down. It is worth going downtown just to eat it. When I was underage, we would go downtown at 1 A.M. just to go eat the pizza. An ABSOLUTE must try! read more

During lunch buffet, there wasn't more than one slice at any given time. There was more than 20 people in the restaurant and all looked to be waiting to get something to eat. As soon as anything was added to the buffet it was gone. They need to do a better job of keeping the buffet stocked with food. Wound up paying $11.00+ for a salad and 2 slices of pizza and I had to wait approximately 1 hr in the restaurant to get to get the 2 slices of pizza. I won't be retuning anytime soon. read more

I've gone to Georges Pizza on several occasions. I would say my favorite night there is Wednesdays, because they have an all you can eat buffet for an affordable price. The pizza is mouth watering and the cheese just melts in your mouth as you take each bite. The service is good and the servers are friendly, and they do their jobs very well. read more

This review is only for our recent order. I has order two pizzas, one was ordered with no cheese. The clerk actually repeated the order to me twice during the conversation. When the pizzas arrived we realized that the special order was no right. We called and requested a replacement. The same clerk tried to indicate that we didn't request no cheese on one... but sent it anyway. Since two people were waiting without food, we asked them to be as fast as possible. The pizza came no quicker than the first, and without an apology they actually requested the incorrect pizza be returned! No offer of refund, nothing, just an hour and half wait for a pizza. Now, since nobody ate any we had no problem complying, but really, why were we made to feel like it was our mistake! Buffets are hard to grade on a review yet this locally own business is lacking majorly. I scoped this place out a few months ago on my rounds. The buffet price was decent, yet very misleading as many posted it is either gone or never made. I had a few BIG issues with the sanitary, the food is not switched after 10-15 mins which is a rule of thumb in the culinary business. By switched i mean thrown away and a new one is put out; in addition the salad bar...was measly. VERY measly. The place overall looked decent, but it could do with a better cleaning job. The woman who answered the phone told me it was on it's way.About 30 minutes passes and I call back and speak to the same woman and explain that I called about half an hour ago and was told my pizza was coming but it isn't here yet.The woman said "Our pizza's take about 45 minutes to an hour for delivery". I clarified and said, you don't understand, I placed my order just before 5 pm and I waited an hour and 10 minutes and called and spoke to you and you told me that it was on its way. I said "When I called earlier and asked if it was coming did you lie to me?"She stammered for a bit and said she never spoke to me before, I asked if there was a manager I could speak with, she said she was the manager.
