    Medium oat milk latte

Great coffee shop right on main street in Brookings! Lots of parking and isn't too busy especially on off season! The staff is super nice and helpful, and the coffee is great. We came in multiple times over the weekend and it was really consistent! They have a great maple spice syrup, which really elevates the oat milk latte I had!

Cottonwood Coffee (and its companion, the Bistro) is, without a doubt, my favorite place in Brookings. I love everything about this place: the food, the drinks, the servers, the atmosphere, the music, and the decor. Let me talk about the menu first. They have a lot of creative drink choices (Zebra Mocha, or my favorite, the London Fog), and fun paninis (PB&J&BANANA!). They also make some GREAT espresso drinks (and there's soy milk! woohoo!). When I'm not in the mood for the "Hot Hanna Banana" sandwich, I usually go for the soup. Every day, they have at least one (but usually two) freshly made soups to choose from. I've never had one I didn't like. Some frequent options include: Chicken and Wild Rice, Cream of Asparagus, Tomato with Garlic Scape Pesto, Broccoli Cheddar, and my favorite, Tomato Florentine. It comes with fresh bread from Buttercrust Bakery, and it's the perfect meal during bitter South Dakota winters! The atmosphere is wonderful. I've been known to spend 5+ hours here at a time, and I'm not ashamed to admit it! The tables are big and roomy, so it's easy to share a booth with a friend when you're both using laptops. The music is very chill and never too loud. The artwork around the room is always unique and eye-catching; it updates every couple of months with new work from local artists (often students from SDSU). I'm pretty sure most of the work that's up is actually for sale, and it lists the artists and their phone numbers underneath. Finally, the service is great. There are several baristas that I've come to adore so much that I get sad when I don't see them working. Many of the workers here are easy to chat with and are just genuinely cool people. They are always wonderfully and sincerely polite! I've also had great success with these employees when it comes to drink recommendations. Whenever I don't know what to order, I just give them some general guidelines, and they either find the perfect drink for me from the menu, or come up with a custom drink to try out, and it's always spot on! Bravo, Cottonwood! You will always be the place I run to first when I visit dear old Brookings. :)

Love the chill vibe here and quiet atmosphere to work. The vanilla lattes are great as well as the tuna salad sandwiches.

    Interior is spacious and comfy.

Very good coffee and casual atmosphere! WiFi can be spotty but it seems to connect after awhile.

Great coffee (with refills). I also had the baked oatmeal which was great but a little spendy at $5 for a small portion.

Our reservation was at…read more5pm and boy am I glad we had reservations two hours before the concert because this place was not ready for the crowd they were about to receive. I did appreciate that we were seated right away (reservations took priority over walk ins) but it took about 10 minutes before we were handed waters and menus. It then took 30 minutes before we received our appetizer to which we were then told the rest of our food was done at the same time. Typically, I don't prefer to eat my appetizer at the same time as my entree, but in this case I worried with how slow of service we were receiving I wouldn't see my entree for another hour. Almost all of our food was amazing. I ordered a house salad and the Fillet of Beef with mashed potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and wild rice soup and the prime rib. He said the prime rib wasn't anything to write home about but it did the job. Overall, service was slow but everyone was super nice. I think they just need to hire a few more people which I know is difficult to do. I really hope this place can find the help they need because the food is so good and I want to see this place continue to succeed.

Good news for those of us with celiac, they have a dedicated toaster and understand the need to keep it dedicated gluten free!! Order at the counter and they bring the food to you. She had been here several times before and was a fan, but this was my first time. I perused the menu, but she kept recommending the pasta. It's actually a pretty neat menu; they have a pasta dish for different regions of the world. The French pasta is Spinach Dill, the Greek pasta has tomatoes and feta and black olives, etc. So that's cool. I ordered the Greek pasta and thoroughly enjoyed it. I asked for the half portion and I still couldn't finish it, so you could easily share a plate with someone if you wanted to. The other perk of my meal was the water. It's self-serve and has cucumbers and/or lemons in it. Nummmmmmmy! The dessert was magical. My lunch date picked out some baklava and shared it with me. Good gracious... like a celebration of cinnamon! Four stars for the food, five stars for the desserts, but ultimately I went with a three-star rating. I value "the experience" at a restaurant, including the ambiance and decor and vibe, and a cafe attached to a children's museum (although awesome) does not leave me inspired. That being said, it's great that they have such a fine quality eatery available for the families to eat at after a day at the museum!
