Found a strand of hair in food, tacos were NOT good, barely any steak on my tacos. Not gonna order again.

I was craving quick Mexican food and didn't want to look for a Taco Bell, and didn't have time, so based on a couple of recommendations I went to Taco John's. The restaurant is fast food style setup where you order at the counter. The cashier was friendly and greeted me when I approached the counter. I ordered a Super Burrito Meal, which came with potato rounds. I took a seat and waited for my name to be called. It didn't take long to get my food so I went to the counter and grabbed my tray. The Super Burrito was just okay but I was more disappointed in the potato rounds. It was obvious to me that the grease needed to be changed in the fryer. I didn't even finish all of them. If you're looking for Tex-Mex fast food, Taco John's is your spot. They are primarily known around town for their potato oles. They are similar to hash browns and are crisp golden brown potatoes with a perfect seasoning. Due to the grease factor, they are a once in awhile type of food, but you will count down the days until it's time to come back and devour another order. On Tuesdays, it's Taco Tuesday and they have hard tacos for 89 cents and soft shells for 99 cents. A few months ago, I had a tremendous idea and I've been addicted ever since. Order a small potato oles, sour cream and 2 soft shell tacos and make homemade meat and potato burritos. They are absolutely fabulous. Other highlights: -You can also order a six pack and a pound for $9.99 which is 6 tacos and a pound of potato oles. -Sour cream, guac, cheese is 60 cents. Completely worth the cost to dip your potato oles in. -Mexi rolls. Similar to a taquito. Deep fried but glorious. -Breakfast -- never tried it, so can't testify to it but my curiosity is piqued. -Great customer service. I am only giving them a 2 because of the young female working the window this morning. She was rude, and inept. 1st I ordered a large combo. With a diet Mt Dew because I am diabetic. Get to the window she was handing me a small cup. She argued about what I said telling me I said small. Then she couldn't talk and tell me the total I gave her 6.32 she gripped I don't give her enough it was 6.36. I gave her another nickel. She gave me the two pennies back. Then when I was handed the receipt, she gave me 4 more cents. I tried to be honest and say she already gave it to me. But Noooooo. She couldn't have made mistake and basically called me an idiot and said 'you gave me a quarter and 2 nickels'. Uhm sorry but a quarter and 2 nickels is .35 cents. You gave me 6 pennies total back. I paid 6.29. I got home and found out she gave me regular Mt Dew. I can't drink it. If this is what I can expect from them when I drive through, I will not be going back. BOURBONNAIS is a much nicer location. I hope an manager see this and figures out who this was and corrects the issue. read more

Love their breakfast burritos and Colorado Coffee. Ryan (window/register) is always there with his cool self, every morning. Always amazed how fresh and tasty! Way better than Mc D's. Really! My dog won't eat McDonald's burritos. Just looks at me like I'm crazy. read more

Sadly, this place should not be able to use the word Mexican in any of their descriptions. Orders were incorrect, and portions were tiny at best. The burrito is more the size of baby tacos of a real Mexican restaurant and included just chicken and onion. Unless you want the Olés, stay aways. read more

Hate to be the guy reviewing a fast food joint, but seriously, hear me out. This place is spectac. I honestly go here every time I'm in Kankakee. Is it authentic Mexican food? No. That's not the point. It's really delicious Tex-Mex fast food. The potato oles were probably developed by the CIA in an attempt to develop the most addicting food in the world. I don't know how Taco Bell hasn't copied them yet, but they're just incredible. Picture the world's greatest tator tot. In disc form. Seasoned even better than you imagined with your world's greatest tator tot, because your imagination couldn't possibly have matched how good these things are. And the tacos are just what they're supposed to be, too. I guess nothing mind-blowing like the oles, but they're just what you want when you're looking for a fast food taco. Hit it up the next time you're in town. You won't be disappointed. Kankakee is the only place nearby that has Taco Johns locations. read more

Good tex-mex fast food. Potato oles with a little nacho cheese is delicious. Whoever hires and trains the staff does a great job. Everyone is friendly and efficient. I was taken aback on my last visit (free tacos for A's, good job kids) because the young lady behind the counter who appeared to be high school aged yelled out "have a nice day!" as we were leaving. Good value...bad mushy rice. Pretty fresh food tho. Easy to get amazing bogo coupons in the paper. A little better than Taco Bell. Unfortunately most mexican restaurants are actually worse. This review is based upon food taste, appearance and quality since there is no service. read more

Good "tex-mex" food. Always fresh and made to order. Not a five star restaurant, but nice place for a quick dinner when on the run. This local is locally owned so very responsive to any concerns. read more

Not sure why people say this is a establishment that is know for its value? I would say they possess the most confusing menu of all the fast food joints. Lots of meal deals with little space provided for prices. I took my family of four- two kids,10 & 7 - and got hit up for over $31; I repeated the number out loud back to the cashier and my wife because I thought I misheard the correct total. However, I was wrong. At best this tex mex was fine, but it is still Taco Bell with tater tots, this visit reminded me why I come here about once every eight years; cause it takes that long to forget my last experience. read more

I and my husband will never go there again. All we did was go through a drive thru. It took us ten minutes to get the order through the girls head, and she still didnt get it!!! If that isnt enough she gets all frustrated and says "o my god" over the speaker and starts talking garbage... get your people a lesson on customer service and knowledge to take an order, or hire somebody who can!!!!!!
