Stopped for lunch and the chips and house salsa was very good. The meal was fantastic and I could only eat about half of it because I got so full. Ordered a large beans , salsa n chips, and 2 tacos. The beans were below average, almost on the gross side. No flavor. Salsa was worse it was tomato water. Steak tacos were also bad. I've wanted to go here for a long time now and have been putting it off for many years. Well went today with my son and I can kick myself for not goin here years ago!! I had the grilled skirt steak with the enchiladas and it was awesome. The steak was very tender and not over cooked. The enchiladas were very good as well. The jalapeños that came with the dish actually had quick a bit of heat unlike most places. That I really liked. The chips and salsa were really good too(my son loved it). The salsa had a very different taste to it but we loved it. The red and green sauce was just as good as everything. I actually preferred the green at this place. Very good service and fast too. Friendly waitress. I won't hesitate to go back. Definitely a new favorite in town. Prices are very reasonable as well. Give it a try you won't be disappointed!! read more

Always great, authentic Mexican food. Prices are competitive. Lunch specials during the day. Great margaritas. The only thing stopping it from 5 stars is that they routinely seem short staffed. (Not the staff's fault). There is generally a wait to be greeted by a server because they are busy in the back or cashing out orders up from. Tacos Del Norte has been on my radar for awhile. There's no good reason why I've never tried it, just that I have my preferences for Mexican food in the area and have always just stuck to those places. I recently decided to clean out my Yelp bookmarks from 2012 (you know, since it's now 2 years later) and Tacos Del Norte is the first one that I can cross off of that list. I asked friends for recommendations of all these unvisited places, and a friend told me to get anything with the spicy pork. Since I'm a lover of all things pork, I went for the pork taco dinner and also decided to try the ceviche. The total of my bill was around $15, which is more than I'd normally pay for a lunch. However, this is all in the name of Yelp so I spent a little more so I could really get a good feel for the place. The ceviche was absolutely delicious and very fresh. I love that they served it with three giant chunks of avocado because it made for an awesome flavor profile. The pork tacos were each wrapped in two soft corn tortillas and I really liked the texture and the amount of spice that they had. The only thing I wasn't crazy on was the rice and beans. They were pretty good mixed together and I found that I ate all of them, but I wouldn't say they were my favorite. I did carry-out so I'm not able to report on the service, but the lady I spoke to on the phone & that waited on me was very nice. Went in to this restaurant for lunch. I was happy to see many patrons from Mexico here eating. That is usually a good sign. This restaurant is also a "bus stop" for the Mexican version of Greyhound. I am sure that also helps the restaurant. They have a nice cozy dinning area. I sat down and ordered their Burrito Dinner without beans for $7.50. The burrito was good. As of this moment, Taco Del Norte is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in the Kankakee area. There are some I haven't tried yet, but from the several I have tried, they have the best menu and best tasting food by far. My wife and I have been here a few times and I will say it is very off putting in appearance at first. It's on the corner of a strip mall, it is a bus stop for a few of the Mexican bus lines and the interior is a little outdated, but man the food makes up for it. We have both tried numerous things on the menu and we have liked everything we have had so far. It all has good flavor and spice. I don't recall either of us having anything bland. The serving sizes are huge, which I will never complain about, I usually like having leftovers. The prices are on average with the other restaurants in the area, but I feel like you get more. I am a Guacamole snob. I love it, but many places have it and some do not make it right. TDN does an excellent job with their guac. You also get a good amount for what you pay for, which can't be said for many other places. We have also never had an issue with the wait staff. They always seem to be on top of things and will come often to refill drinks and such. I have and will suggest Taco Del Norte to people who live in or are visiting the Kankakee area. It's only a few minutes directly south of I-57. read more

I have been going to Tacos del Norte since they opened. They have AMAZING SALSA. it's not the typical tomato onion cilantro and jalapeno salsa. It's roasted or cooked. I went there in Friday and as a Catholic I could not have my usual steak taco dinner so I got a side of rice and beans and of course salsa. What happened?! They used to be my go-to place for mexican food in town, and in a matter of a day, they went completely downhill. Maybe money is tight and they had to tighten up their portions, but there is no excuse for their change in the salsa (red sauce).
