The hotel that I stay at whenever I am in Hernando, Mississippi has this restaurant relatively close to it, yet for whatever reason, I had never tried here before. Well, tonight was the night to try Taco Felix. Walking in, I was greeted extremely warmly by the staff. I was seated and I did notice that the tables had seen better days, but they ultimately still served the purpose and were comfortable enough. Otherwise, the ambiance was pleasant enough and they also had outdoor seating (not a desirable choice for an evening at the end of January). They brought over chips and salsa. The chips I would guess were store bought instead of made in-house. Still, not bad. I went with their California burrito. I have to say that I am a fan of a burrito with French fries added inside. The food came relatively quick. It was pretty good, no real complaints. Service was decent, as well. All in all, I would say that this was an overall decent enough place and I will give it four stars overall. read more

Good food, sit down service, generous portions, fast food prices and quick service. The restaurant itself is not fancy, but it was clean and casual. We ordered fajitas, street tacos, and flan, no one was disappointed or hungry when we finished. The only down side is that we are just passing through, if I was local this would regular stop for tex/mex lunch or dinner, I might even try breakfast;-) read more

Quick and extremely pleasant service and a tasty, reasonably priced shrimp taco salad made for a great lunch! And there was plenty of shrimp in the very fresh salad. My husband had a ground beef taco salad. I did not have to ask if he thought it was good. His empty said it for him. Wish that their house salsa had some spice BUT, I could have just asked for some hot sauce. Didn't need it though once the cheese dip arrived. It had a slight spice to it that hit the spot! I was in Hernando by appointment and found myself with some time, and hungry for some breakfast. I searched the Yelp app for somewhere to eat and this place popped up at the top. I thought it was another horribly mis-sorted restaurant in the wrong category. After looking a bit more at the review highlights I realized they did in fact have a decent breakfast based on the reviews. The exterior screams hole in the wall and it describes it nicely. The parking lot was pretty full with the locals. You seat yourself and your server arrives. The breakfast menu is a mixture of country breakfast and Mexican breakfast. You will find biscuits and gravy, pancakes, omelets, hash browns, along with semi-authentic Mexican breakfasts like Huevos Rancheros, Ahogados, Vallarta, and Chilaquiles. When paying I caught a glimpse of the biscuits. They are HUGE and homemade! A must try if I'm ever here again. Dude said they were really good... I had a Chorizo taco and some "Papas" on the side. I wasn't that hungry and I was really unsure what the hell to expect to come from the kitchen on the Mexican Food side of things (I'll explain in a bit). The chorizo was some of the best I've had. Not oily or greasy at all and had a great taste. The taco was so full that it was hard to handle. I stuffed some salsa and some of the papas in there and it was pretty damn good! I went back and forth on three/four stars. It wasn't a home run on food but I have to say these are some of the nicest people. Everyone that I spoke to was awesome! They were genuine and very nice. They made it four stars. So, why did I doubt the Mexican food??? There wasn't a single person of Latino descent in the entire place. No one in the kitchen, on the FOH staff, or in the dining room! It was strange. I've never encountered such a thing. I mean, after breakfast this place goes full Mexican. I struck up a conversation with a gentleman (obviously a regular, he was making a deal with another server, he proposed if he caught some catfish, she would clean and cook them, it was a cute exchange) across from me and checked out his Huevos Vallarta. He substituted his rice for the papas after seeing me stuff them in my taco. His looked really good and he kept making happy food noises while eating so I will have to come back and try some other stuff. Don't be afraid of the outside. It's what's on the inside that counts! This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, the staff is so friendly and fun. Great chips and salsa's, cheese dip Is very tasty. We eat al fresco (outside) there it's so nice they have fans and big tables inside is small and a little claustrophobic. Food is very good they serve America and Mexican breakfast which is very popular. Lunch has great offering and drinks at a great price. Dinner early happy hour and Very good Mexican food. I like it all Been going here for years and never unhappy. Clean, great service and yummy food that is not expensive How can you lose. read more

Ok. I know what the name suggests and yes, it is a Mexican establishment. But you have to go there for breakfast! The price is comparable to Waffle House but the food is better. I would also suggest you arrive hungry because portion size is HUGE! I'm a fan of the omelette but really everything here is good and you will be happy with it all. On 12/11/23 my family of 4 made an evening visit to this restaurant. We sat down and a young male server took our drink order. The complimentary salsa and chips arrived directly after drink order. We were half way through the basket of chips and salsa before the drinks arrived. Then we sat and sat for about 10 minutes while the four servers stood behind the counter talking and finally someone noticed that we were looking in their direction. The young man showed back up to the table and took our order. In the meantime there were 4 servers and 6 tables of customers. All of the other tables had received their food and drinks. We again, sat and sat and sat before AGAIN one of the other servers saw us looking at them as they stood behind the counter. Our server comes over and starts apologizing saying that they were having trouble with the computer. The food tickets were already hanging up for the cooks so I'm not sure would computer problems they were having. By now it's after 6:30 and we had already been at the restaurant for nearly 40 minutes with no food. After the server said the computers were messed up it took about 8-10 minutes for the food to arrive at the table. One of the orders that was brought to us was wrong and the amount of tacos was also wrong. Soooo the person whose order was incorrect waited again! Let me say that we were all hacked about the lack of concern by everyone in the restaurant. We were sitting in the direct view of the food counter so it was very obvious to anyone in the area that we were there. Our server was too immature I think to even recognize that there was an issue right in front of his face. We have been a huge fan of Blue Agave since their doors opened. We are very familiar with the staff and the menu too. I'll swear to anyone that we have only once had service issues in the entirety of our visits to that restaurant. We are frequent guests as are most of the community. I thought it would be a change of pace for me and my family to try Taco Felix. What a mistake! Me and three of my family members had gone there 2 days prior and again an order was messed up but I chalked it up to being just an honest mistake and not a big deal. But when you go back a second time within two days and they mess up an order again, and the staff is ignoring you... I don't know what to say other than the lack of concern for the customers is off the charts and I will never visit that place again. Service is an F I do not recommend read more

We've always loved taco Felix however recently it's taking a nose dive it seems. good food but it seems money instead of people is now their only priority. just had breakfast here. waitress brought out the ticket right after the dish. came back 5 minutes later and said her manager was yelling at her to close it out. so I stopped eating, handed over my card and asked if I need to rush eating. ticket and card came back out. still eating a different waitress walked over and asked "are you done with this?" as she pointed to the unsigned ticket. I said "no, I'm not". after finishing my dish, I signed it, left 20% and the second waitress immediately returned to grab it. I said "wow, someone's in a large hurry in there." "yes!" she responded. so I'm sitting here now writing this still staring at an empty bowl and drink that was not in so much a rush to be removed. we have been frequenting TF for years, but I believe we'll be going next door to Blue Agave from now on. read more

This was actually our second choice and i can honestly say that i wish we would have just come home and ate a sandwich. Nothing spectacular about it. It looks like a little hole in the wall but i held back judgement becahse some of the best food comes from tiny mom and pops. Interior looked clean on the surface whole place looked dated and run down. We ordered our drinks and a small cheese dip. Service was prompt and our waitress was very friendly. The salsa was really good. Cheese dip was runny and lacked any real flavor. Our meal showed up after a reasonable time. We order chicken queso and rice and a steal steak quesadilla. The beans were runny...im seeing a trend here, hopeful the runny nature doesnt follow me home. Steak was waayy too salty and had a really strange flavor. It wasnt bad, you could tell it was a seasoning issue. I didnt care for it at all. I did like the rice and the tortillas were hot and tasted fresh. All in all it was not my favorite place to eat. I might go back again if i really wanted Mexican and nothing else, including taco bell, was closed. read more

The Southaven location is so far, on all accounts , much better. At Southaven they make a nice little street taco platter with a tasty spicy grilled peppers you can cut up and place on your tacos . This one barely had meat , only one shell (if you're a street taco person , you know good ones have two shells) , no flavor ... did I mention no flavor at all .. chips stale , and pico was like last years ... just YUCk! read more

Ain't nothing wrong with this Hernando hole in the wall favorite. As someone who did not grow up in this area, I was shocked to see the parking lot full, and almost nowhere to sit in this tiny establishment. We ended up sitting at the small bar, which only has 4 seats, and got a variety of things. They have typical Mexican favorites, breakfast items and even a la carte stuff like bacon, biscuits, etc. I the Chilequiles, Trip got an egg white omelette and his cousin Matt (a local) ordered and "off the menu" item called The Mess. The Chilequiles were good! Nothing about it completely blew my mind, but the chicken was tasty and the whole plate was hot and fresh. Trip's omelette was surprisingly large, and he ate every bite. The Mess, which turned out to be similar to a massive, messy omelette with everything they have in the back, was the star. Veggies, meats, eggs and cheese all topped with salsa - damn! I understand now why they have such a cult following. Overall friendly and fast service, although there was some confusion at pay time and we weren't sure where they had taken our card...but they were friendly and resolved it for us. We ordered yesterday for takeout based on several really good reviews. Some of it was really good - the chips, salsa, white queso and pico de gallo were all very fresh and tasted great! The grilled veggies with my dinner were great. The slice of cake we shared was awesome! Now we get to the not so great... We ordered a side of beans and a side of cilantro. Didn't get either one. The tamales were 95% masa with very little filling. The beans and rice included with my dinner were both very bland. My carne asada was half gristle. I would return any day for chips and dip, along with dessert!!! But, I don't think we'll ever return for dinner. read more
