We saw this driving by and were trying to figure out whether it was the same Taco Casa fast food chain they have in North Texas, that we have missed since moving away, and decided to have lunch here to find out. It isn't. It might have been at one point, who knows? But the menu is different and though some of the flavors are similar it isn't identical. Sadly, we like the TX version better, but the locals clearly love theirs as this place was packed at 1:40 on a Friday. I had a combo burrito w/o lettuce (not sure if it usually comes with lettuce or not but wanted to avoid the cyclospora currently consuming the country) ; hubs had a taco el grande and bean burrito. There was no sauce on my burrito at all, they have bins for you to add your own, but it is cold. Their sauce is mainly what is inferior to the TX TC; the beans and beef taste about the same. These burritos are much smaller as well (but also cheaper). I am a small eater but still hungry aftee just one burrito. If you want to have a variety the smaller sizes are an advantage though. Despite being very busy the food was ready pretty fast. They also have weekday specials , which make it a very economical option which is probably half the reason it is so popular. All in all, it is better than Taco Bell, but grade it on the fast food scale since it is very much fast food. If I were a local I'd probably eat here periodically too for a snack or a cheap meal. It isn't really a vacation meal though since it isn't the Taco Casa we miss from TX. read more

The joint of joints. Used to come here all the time when I lived in Greenville. So much nostalgia. First visit in I think 20, 25, 30 years? Tacos just as I remember them. Hot sauce too. Wild. Service was fast and friendly. I wonder if any of the grey haired staff worked there back when. :-) Place was hopping - parking lot full. But not terribly loud. The world needs joints like this!! read more

I have been a loyal customer for decades. The only thing better than Taco Casa's food is the polite fast counter service. The value is unmatched in the East Grenville area. You cannot go wrong here. I just wish they were opened nights. read more

We got take-out for dinner yesterday before they closed at 5:00. As always, Taco Casa served up great-tasting dinner plates with generous portions. These guys never miss! The food is fresh and delicious. Inside is always clean and well-maintained. Service is fast and friendly. Taco Casa is staffed by the owner and family, and it shows. And as for the prices, I don't think there is a better value anywhere. If you want to top off a great meal with something sweet, try one of their empanadas! I love them all, especially the blueberry. read more

This has been a go-to since I was in high school. Not a fancy place, basic Mexican style fast food.

Our Saturday lunch ritual. My husband has been coming here since he was a child and introduced me to this amazing spot recently. Absolutely love the tostadas with mild picante sauce! Service is always quick and the retro themed vibe in the restaurant is cozy and fun! read more

Best place for a quick lunch!! We loved a place called Taco tree in Auburn, California. This place is almost identical--It's good! This place is very causal, it's clean, and the food is a stellar low key meal. read more

I wouldn't call it super authentic Mexican food. But it was cheap and warm and delicious.

Bland and dreadfully Americanized "Mexican Food". That the closest to praise many reviews come to is that it's cheaper and better than Taco Bell tells you all you need to know. I'll agree it's cheaper. Its "Mexican food" for people who don't really like Mexican food and better yet, have never actually had a decent taco. You can almost literally throw a rock from their parking lot and hit 4 to 5 better places for the kind of food this pretends to be. read more

I just wish they stayed open a little later. We can never leave work and make it there before they close and I love their food .

Best family restaurant in the upstate! Delicious, quick meals. Cleanest dining room anywhere. All Smiles behind the counter. Closes 5pm so be sure to get there in the day. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Better yet, negative stars because this is one of the most disgusting tacos I've EVER tasted. The chicken smells so unseasoned and the beef is literally baby poop. There's no authenticity in the food. It's all trash. Don't eat here. I'd rather slurp on donkey diarrhea, at least that has more flavor. read more

What is there to say about this iconic Greenville restaurant? Taco Casa is like the polarizing food item cilantro - people are either disgusted by it or they love it. There is actually a website devoted to hating cilantro, creatively called IHateCilantro.com. This place used to be called Taco Cid years ago, but not much has really changed. In fact, 37 years ago they had all you can eat tacos for $5 so my brother and I had an eating contest that ended in a draw at 19 hard shell tacos apiece. That was brutal. I had a lunch plate special that included a tamale, a cheese sauce enchilada, a tostada with lettuce meat and refried beans, a taco and then a tostada like thing with just beans and melted cheese. The taco was good for a straight out, plane Jane, Taco Bell-ish taco. The rest was something to fill up on to keep the hunger pains down until dinner. The price for a lunch special, including 16 ounce drink is $5.35. Mine was closer to $7.00. This is cash only. It was lunch and it was crowded, but food is served up quickly. There is absolutely no resemblance to any of the better (food wise) taco places in town. If you read my review last weekend of Greer Tacos located in the Barnyard Flea Market, of all places, you will get an idea of a great taco. The reason this place has been around for decades is the fairly large portions for the price, the quick service, and that it has a cult following. I bet canned Green Giant asparagus has a cult following too, for some reason. Taco Casa is like that. Think of canned asparagus and think about why does it still exist? Someone, or plenty of someone's grew up eating that asparagus and never appreciated fresh asparagus because it doesn't taste "right." In this case, "right" being what you are used to, what you grew up with, and what you have come to enjoy as your standard for asparagus. Or, cheap Mexican food. Substitute that into my previous sentence. I think you get the idea from reading the reviews that it is either loved or hated. Personally, there are too many better options even if this is a Greenville icon. read more

The blueberry empanada is just incredible! You have to try it. Plus, they have the good ice. If you like ice, you know what I mean. Bring cash with you and you'll love this spot. read more

Ate lunch here today. It was awful. The ground beef had zero flavor and was a very weird texture. Completely turned my stomach. The whole meal was tasteless. Couldn't eat the rice...it was crunchy. We will not return. read more

Taco casa is truly the GEM of the south. When I visited them, the thought I couldn't get out of my mind was that this was the Mexican food version of the original McDonald's. Very clean, unbelievable service, and insane efficiency, with the best bean and cheese burritos in the entire world. And their prices are so reasonable. Love the variety of sauces available. Seriously I will put their bean burrito up against any other one in the world. The Mexican pizza is also phenomenal. This place is actually 6 stars!!! What a phenomenal family business read more

This place makes Taco Bell seem like they're doing a good job - we tried a chicken taco, burrito, and quesadilla and they were all dreadful - We ended up throwing half of it away because it was below mediocre - If you're looking for Mexican food which is worse than what a suburban housewife would make with canned ingredients this is the place for you read more

Taco Casa Greenville institution, and rightfully so. Playing house to families for a quick weeknight bite afterwards the baseball game, or a quick stop after high school lets out to get a Big Red, a soft taco, and a Pepsi, Taco Casa's comfortable and familiar dining room is a place known by generations. While this is not Mexican, or even Tex-Mex, shame is put to Taco Bell. Also, the prices here are impossible to beat. read more

First time at Taco Casa tonight. I'm a latino from Texas and my eyebrow went up when I walked into the place and there's not a Latino in sight. You see, in Texas there's a place called Taco Casa - same sign, same font.... this is NOT that place. I'm telling you, don't be fooled. A local told me their best item are the nachos. We ordered both beef and chicken tacos, beef and cheese nachos, and a cheese quesadilla for the kid ($14 total). Tacos were trash... worse than Taco Bell. The meat ... IS it meat? I finished my kid's quesadilla (cheese on a tostada) and we went out for some real tacos. I recommend Los Arcos in case you're looking for some good food. read more

Awesome and cheap. Their hot picante salsa is so delicious. Dinner special #1 is my favorite. I love the taco burgers. Chips and dip is a good portion. Bean nachos are yummy and they melt in your mouth. Can easily eat for less than $5. read more

I want to start off by saying that I know this place has been in business for years. I dined in one time maybe back in 2004 and it was ok. My son who loves tacos wanted to try so we went in today to get take out. Staff was very friendly and they were quick to get our order ready. I had the chicken taco and burrito with rice and beans. Husband had the red tacos and my son regular tacos with plain beef. My chicken was dry- tasteless. Beans were tasty- rice reminded me of the Spanish rice my mom made growing up. It was moist but a little spicy. My son wasn't impressed with the flavor of the beef. He said it didn't taste like anything and was dry. My husband had no complaints about his food and was satisfied. This definitely was not my favorite thing to eat. I guess I've had too much authentic Mexican food and so this doesn't rate up there with the flavor. It's just basic and I honestly wasn't impressed, but the fact it's been opened for years and always packed will beat my review any day. All I am trying to say here is don't try to compare it to authentic Mexican flavored food because you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for Mexican type food and quick service while supporting a local joint then by all means, eat here. read more

Taco Casa isn't a high end traditional Mexican restaurant. It's also not simple fast food. The service is fast, and any dinner combo will fill your belly for hours. I like the Number 3 best. It's a place I've frequented since 1992. Everytime I hit Greenvile, I "Wanna Casa". It's not pretending to be anything, it's literally an American diner doing their take on Mexican food. Now you can argue that, but there's one thing I love about Casa. They make everything like they made it 20+ years ago. Can tastebuds be nostalgic? Who knows, but Taco Casa has a certain taste, a certain feel, and a place that I'm glad realized "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". read more

Not bad and good budget friendly meals. Staff is very friendly. Two adults are for under 11 bucks. Their lunch specials are fairly priced.

Great service, OK prices but the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. This review is for the food only, not for the staff. You know when you open a can of dog food for your pet and you get a bit of the aroma and that awful taste in your mouth? I had the Tuesday Special, a hard beef taco and a Big Red (I think that's what it was called), and a blueberry empanada. I ate half of the Big Red and couldn't stop thinking it tasted like dog food. So I tried the hard taco (usually my favourite). I ate half of the taco and it had the same gross dog food taste. I think it's whatever they are using for beef, or perhaps to season the beef. I then decided to give up on the meal and tried the blueberry empanada. It too was terrible. The filling was just normal blueberry pie filling and was ok, but the crust portion was truly awful. Maybe it's the oil they used to deep fry the empanadas? At least it didn't taste like dog food. It was just yucky tasting. On a positive note, I ordered a side of sour cream and the taste and quality of this was excellent. Really sorry for the bad review, especially as your staff members are so nice and friendly, but I've never NOT eaten my Mexican food before. My partly eaten empanada...I tried to like it..I really did. read more

This is a place that is driven almost exclusively by the nostalgia people have for it. They serve bland grocery store kit-like tacos. People seem to have great affection for this place because they've been eating here since the 80's when there were apparently few if any real Taco shops in Greenville. You could almost literally throw a rock from the parking lot and hit at least 2 places with better tacos. Most praise comes down to being cheap and having a nice staff. read more

None of the meats had any seasoning. TacoBell has more flavor than this beef and chicken had. I would honestly choose TacoBell over this place. read more

We went in expecting better than Taco Bell but were disappointed. The food is served quickly and is fresh but is as plain and tasteless as it can be. The ground beef on my taco didn't taste like it had been seasoned at all, and same with the chicken. It just felt like very little effort is put into the food. The place was curiously full. I guess I just don't get it. read more

This place is a Greenville institution and one of the only places where you can still get a quality lunch for under $10. The owners are some of the kindest and best people you will ever meet, and there is a community of regulars that enjoy it (sometimes) every day! My favorite item is the Taco El Grande, but you really can never go wrong with the Daily Lunch Special. It's worth noting that their sweet tea is always brewed to perfection, and they are meticulous with their cleaning regimen (including the carpet in the dining room). Also -- they're not a cash-only establishment anymore! So for a filling lunch (with a drink) for under $10, choose the Casa! read more

I have come to taco casa religiously every Friday and sometimes other times in the week, for four years. My buddies and I bonded here because of the great specials for poor college students budget. I have laughed and cried in these booths and I can't find it in my heart to go lower than 5 stars. Hate me if you must, but loyalty is a trait forgotten in this modern era of digital friendship, and taco casa is a monument to loyalty and friendship and all that is good in the world.... And the specials are sweet... So, there is that. read more

I really don't mean to discredit other's opinions but this place is terrible. I went there for the first time when I had a group of friends from out of town over. I thought it would be a fun place to try out and we all like Mexican food. Well this place is more like a high school cafeteria. It is almost like they just buy Taco Bell kits from the grocery store and serve that. I guess I can see this place as maybe a cool hang out for high school kids because it was very inexpensive. It does seem the entire staff is under the age of 18, which isn't a bad thing just not my thing. I am always amazed by how crowded it is so what do I know. read more

Taco Casa - Mexican Near Me - Greenville, South Carolina

This is my go-to fast food taco spot in all of the upstate. It's nothing fancy, but the food is great. The sauces are homemade and the mild (but still spicy) sauce is what makes the whole meal! They finally take credit/debit cards, too, so it's even easier to swing by for a meal! read more

I really wanted to like this place. Truly I did. However that was not the case. Why it is always packed, can only point to the fact that a meal complete with a drink will cost you under $5. The meat has zero flavor. It tasted like I imagine paper pulp would've. A signature item "the big red" is covered in tomato sauce and then either a slice of American cheese, or odd tasting cheese sauce. Neither of which did the burrito any favors. The "empenadas" are just a tortilla rolled up with fruit filling. I can't imagine how hard it would be to get a table if the food was better prepared. The food tastes like it would be better suited to the "it's 2:30 in the morning and I've had 1 too many jäger bombs, feed me!" crowd. Like I said, I really wanted to like the place. Sadly we won't be back. read more
