I firmly believe that this is the worst restaurant in existence. The employees are stupid, don't speak any other language, but are terrible at English and manners, had quite possibly the slowest service time in my life for a chips and salsa and cheese quesadilla it took 18 minutes. No one came and picked up a delivery or to go while I was waiting and there was two other women already eating in the restaurant. I walked in for lunch on a Thursday and this place was busy between people eating in and people picking up food alike. The customer service isn't terrible - the gentleman who took my order was nice .. the lady who handed me my order was amazing - she went out of her way to be loud and proud - she was trying to make the job fun! I ordered the taco dip which consists of ground beef, shredded cheese and ranch with tortilla chips - their cheese is so much better than every where else and the ranch is phenomenal ! I ordered the burrito boat extra spicy. The food is very good but the sauce isn't spicy to me at all. It tastes more like a mild sauce. The staff refilled the mild and hot sauce that you can get on the side and even that hot sauce tastes like a mild sauce which was very disappointing to me. read more

As a 50+ yr. patron of TACO CASA, I now have to say "bye bye", for the forseeable future. Today, 11-30-2024, the large taco salad with "extra meat" followed the recent trajectory toward being absolutely flavorless at a really high price. Now the $18+ for a mishmash of flavorless "meat" and "sauce" has NO REDEEMABLE attributes; only utter disappointment. This is the 1st. time I trash binned most of it!! The "new" owner has stripped away the once excellent qualities of wonderful flavors and good value. The employees were nice enough though. I noticed that the owner had plastic gloves on, touched his body, the other guys hands and proceeded to go back into the kitchen to make food. I have been coming to Taco Casa for half my life. It was a Sunday night dinner treat for my family growing up. However, we stopped in on Friday and ordered a small taco salad with light bean. We took it back up because there was VERY little beef and all you could taste was bean. We asked for it to be remade. First the owner argued with me about the presence of the beef. Then he came back out and said "absolutely not. It's portion control. If I made it for you again, sweetie, it would taste the same. These are the portions. I've owned this place for 26 years." I should have known because he gave us exactly 11 chips. He had absolutely no cocern for us being unhappy with our order. If we wanted something else, we'd havr to pay for it. It was extremely upsetting. Within a half an hour, two other people cane In and complained about their take out order. The last order, he told the lady " I'm sorry you're wrong. That's how we have always made it. Next time, you will have to ask for it." At least he told her he was sorry she was unhappy. Just no regard for customer service or satisfaction from the owner at all. I was pretty upset and shocked over this interaction. The ranch.... the ranch can turn anything into the most amazing thing that has ever graced your taste buds. I always get the same thing - a taco salad. It's very basic and you could definitely make it at home. But why would you when you can get it here... for an insanely reasonable price. For what it is, it is dang fine food... it is not, however, meant to be fine dining. So don't @me when the lid on your ranch cup comes off on the ride home. The employees aren't educated. My entire family and I have went to Taco Casa my entire life. I miss the original in Hyde Park. This location doesn't seem to take pride in their work anymore. They barely fill the food in the container and serve minimum amounts on a $12 taco salad. Also, they never answer their phone to place large to-go orders. Every single time I have called in the last year, they have never answered. I tried to place a to-go order today and ended up going to the store in person to place the order. I walked in without a mask, as I do everywhere, and they refused to allow me to remain in the store. I told the man working that I do not wear a mask due to my medical conditions, (which I don't even have to disclose), and he proceeded to ask me if I had a 'card' for medical exemption. First off, that is a direct violation. It is illegal to ask someone to disclose any medical conditions in such scenario, and they did this in front of approximately 10 customers. Then, he told me if I didn't have a 'card' that I had to wear a mask just like everyone else if I wanted to order! Just lost business from an entire family. [TLDR]It may seem like a local version of a Taco Bell from the outside - but its much, much better[/TLDR] Let me get this out of the way right off the bat - I dearly love the food at Taco Casa But the strange thing about this place is most folks I talk to either really love it, or really hate it - views seem very polarized. And it seems to both start and end in most cases with the key ingredient - their taco meat, which goes into about half of the items on the menu. The taco meat is finely ground hamburger mildly spiced with the same sort of spices most of use use to make tacos at home. But it has a certain something, one or more things added that I cant quite put my finger on, that change both the texture and the flavor into something a lot better, at least in my opinion. It has a slight creaminess with very little grease, not much heat, and holds together well, almost like a very very thick meaty sauce, It is hard to describe, and I've never had anything like it anywhere else. The most popular thing here is the taco salad, but I prefer the sancho boat, available as a single or a double, which is a tortilla stuffed with the taco meat, rolled, covered in red sauce (your choice of hot or mild, its kinda like a enchilada sauce) and melted cheese, then topped with fresh lettuce and chopped stewed tomato. It might sound a little weird, but it is tasty as all get out. The hot sauce is about the same heat level as a medium hot wing. Prices are a bit higher than you'd expect for a counter service taco joint like this - 2 dollars for a standard american-style (meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato) taco. More expensive than Taco Bell, yes, but a bit bigger and a lot tastier. Special on Monday: Extra Meat (free). Only on items using their beef Taco Meat only - tacos, taco salad, burrito boat, etc Special on Friday: reduced price on their Tuna Boat Plenty of parking in the strip center lot it is located in, right next to Arby's. I usually go to Hyde Park location, but when I found out they were opening one up in Norwood, I was psyched! What I love about Taco Casa is that it's simple American Tex-Mex food, quick, and cheap. I absolutely love their Taco salad-lettuce, tomatoes, beef, beans (I tell them to hold it, since I don't like it on my salad), onions, ranch dressing on the bottom, and ground beef with chips, your choice of mild or hot sauce. I usually get the junior size which is perfect portion for $4.99. Simply delish!! I've also tried their Tuna Boat, Cheese Quesadilla, and hard shell beef taco, which are great too. Their pricing at this location is higher. The Hyde Park location is $4.59 for a junior salad. The employees are very friendly and fast at making my meal. You can also dine in, which restaurant is really clean and the condiments section is very organized. I would choose Taco Casa over Taco Bell. Most of the things are good. It's great value, relatively-close-to-authentic Mexican food for the price. My #1 complaint - please cut up your damn tomatoes.
