Ok, don't judge. When I went to college in San Antonio, I lived off of Taco Cabana. Known for fresh tortillas made on location and good grilled meats, TC brings me back to my college days. It's fast food so service is behind the counter and typically friendly and fast. Ambiance is bright colors and often has a patio. Margaritas used to be made with wine but now have tequila. My wife laughs at me because I always order two fajita tacos and one bean and cheese taco. I guess some things, aside from prices, never change. read more

I don't know what happened to Taco Cabana but this one is tucked away and hidden behind a Walgreens. Even from the highway it's difficult to see. But it's not bad tasting. For fast food especially. I like that I can get breakfast tacos all day. They're generous with the salsa also. I typically get the eggs and bean breakfast tacos and I add cheese, though the amount they charge for cheese is absurd. I think this location just needs a refresher and some marketing. read more

It's been a little over 15 years since I last dined here despite driving by it often. Last week, I thought I would try it again. I ordered the ground beef taco combo for a little over $10 tax included. It came either a fountain drink and chips and queso. While I waited I admired the glum interior and thought it needed a remodel to bring it into the 21st century. The food arrived shortly after ordering and the taste was ho hum. The small queso lasted through 1/3 of the chips and was the best part of the meal. The tacos lacked taste and flavor. Honestly, I would have gotten a better meal at Taco Bell and saved $3. Really disappointed in how much this location has been deteriorating in service and value. This used to be my favorite location but now it's gone downhill. The employees are slow and unmotivated. Management, what's going on?? The food is not as good and the happy hour glass size depends on who is at the register. There is no consistency. My husband and I stopped by Sunday at 5:30pm for happy hour margaritas and they were served in a smaller cup than the regular cups with the logo we have gotten in the past. I remember when taco cabana used to be good. I live in Austin. We have 2 locations near us, one is pretty mediocre and the other one is pretty good. I come to Houston often to visit and take car of my parents and no matter which location I visit in Houston I am disappointed. This time we visited the location on the beltway and west road. Nachos were good but you'd think they would ask if you wanted everything on the side since you are going to end up with soggy chips. Empanadas were great! The fajitas were pathetic, dry and skimpy is a polite way to describe the amount of meat in each taco. The ground beef tacos... no... these were lettuce tacos... there was enough meat present to be considered a garnish but not enough to provide a base flavor. The quesadillas... there was just enough cheese to stick most of the tortilla together. My advice... check your order thoroughly before you leave. Nothing worse than getting home thinking you are about to enjoy your meal and be so wrong. read more

I can't say enough about this location in particular. This location's COVID regulation enforcement has been so consistent that its the only place I feel safe eating outside my own home. There are 2 other locations closer to my house, but I go out of my way every morning to come to this one specifically. Everything about this location is on point: staff and management is always friendly and always gets orders right, food is consistently fresh, authentic, and delicious. I've never seen another location come close to the quality of this one - this store alone has elevated the status of the brand in my eyes. They deserve 6 stars, unfortunately I can only give 5. read more

What a incredibly unenthusiastic group of individuals that work at this location! Customer service is not their main focus! They want to get you in and out of there. After getting my family's dinner I was supper disappointed with the way one of my items looked. I asked the gentleman at the restaurant was that the way it was was supposed to look? Of course he said yes. I asked him for some additional chips to at least add to the item and for the cheese that I paid for. He did give it to, but he was acting like it was going to hurt his back to help a customer out! Not to mention after I got those items and added them to what they gave me there was a gnat flying in the box. So I took it back to the gentleman and showed him the item. He appeared as though he didn't want to take it and remake it. I was appalled, because we both literally were watching the gnat crawl on my food! He finally took and supposedly remade it. However, it wasn't remade. He just put he just took the chips off, added new ones and put some more hot cheese on top! Talk about customer service. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. I cannot tell you how many times this particular Taco C has messed up my order. I refuse to go there anymore which is sad b/c there is nothing more genius than tex-mex on the go! And recently, not only did they mess up on my boyfriend's order but they put the queso in the bag upside-down so when I went to take it out, it dumped out everywhere not leaving any left to eat! I used to be able to tolerate Taco Cabana but on my late night craving for some food last night, I found that this Taco C would not suffice. I was sad. I was craving some Taqueria but they were closed by this time so I had to settle. Not that good I've eaten here at other times also and still the food lacks what I used to like about Taco C. Many years ago I had tortilla soup at the Taco Cabana on 1960 and was so in love I looked up the recipe to make it at home. A coworker suggested going to this one (off Sam Houston) for lunch and I jumped at the chance to order the soup again. Turns out they only serve soup during the winter. What?!? So I ordered the #1 combo which comes with 2 fajta tacos, chips, cheese dip, and a 20 oz drink. For 5.79 (+tax) that's a pretty good deal. But the chips were stale, the cheese runny, and the fajita meat seemed to be seasoned with nothing but lots of pepper. I was very disappointed. Absolutely worse Mexican place I've been to and my order is always simple. I wanted a beef enchilada with red sauce and the guy at the register said they only have green sauce and gravy. He didn't know what enchilada sauce was, nor did he know what bean dip was and neither did the cook when I asked him as well. I normally go to this location for breakfast tacos, four of them so I'm well acquainted with what it costs. Recently, it's getting to where I'm lucky if I have a half a teaspoon of egg in there, and I've frequently gotten them with no bacon. They've shrunk in size, and now the price has gone up to nearly $2.25 for them a piece. For what you get, it's overpriced and staff is getting borderline rude. Shame, it used to be really good. I've been going to this one since it opened, but I won't be going back. Cannot keep giving people sub-par customer service, shrinking the product and raise the price and expect people to keep coming back. I was spending between $40 and $50 a week there. May not sound much to you, but I worked like a fiend to make that money and I think I deserve to be treated with respect. Multiply that by 20 or more people, and then it gets to an amount that you're losing which might bring it to your attention!
