This is one of the few spots in Charlotte you can find a good breakfast taco. The food tastes really good and they fill it up too! Interior looks really trendy and fun. I love that every time we go to this establishment there's consistency in the taste of the food the service that we get and the cleanliness. We have tried multiple dishes and all of the food down to the rice and black beans taste very authentic. I also love that they have specials on pretty much every day of the week. For a taco place the tacos are jus mediocre. I had a 3 taco platter. The crispy shrimp taco has so much sauce on the shrimp, they were soggy. The kimchi taco has some flavor but it was weird. The Birria taco was the best of the 3 of the 3 but nothing special. And 3 tacos for $18, that is pricy, they better be really good. They weren't. Taco's For Life makes much better tacos. Also, service was really slow. Now the things that really irked me. They have a 3% adder if you use a credit card. The tip button on the card reader starts at 18% and goes up from there. 15% is considered standard for good service. I get that food costs have gone up, but tipping is based on a percentage of the bill so it shouldn't go up too. So for my wife and I for 3 tacos, 1 burrito water and a soda, that's $45. We had Taco Boy in Charleston and looooved it! We were very excited when one came to Charlotte. We finally got to go tonight, and I have to say, it was not how we remember it but it was very good. We started with a trio and the guac and queso were so good! The salsa was fine. We each did the two taco platter and tasted the Be-hive Chorizo, Grilled Chicken, Tinga Chicken and Al Pastor. The chorizo was spicy in my opinion and the rest were pretty good. We each did a side of the street corn which I feel like is the best food on the menu! The shining star of my meal was the Pineapple-Passionfruit Frozen Margarita. It was probably the best marg I've ever had!! The server told us they make all of their juices and this marg showed. I'm typically a one drink with dinner kind of guy and I actually ordered a second and savored every sip! The one downfall, when we arrived, the ambiance was great. We ordered queso with chorizo and it came with pulled pork instead, very awkward to eat. The host was great, our waitress was slow and never there. Another great casual Mexican place is Charlotte. They have a good sized menu as well, but there is less seating than I expected. I do like the location and options for outdoor seating. I came on a Saturday at 5pm and was told it was going to be a 1 - 1:30 hour wait. I was okay with that because I really wanted to try the food, the hostess mistakenly put 2 people instead of 6 and the manager was nice enough to get the " rearranged " for us. The hostess sat us and after waiting 15 minutes with no server checking on us or giving water we asked for a server again no one came. We moved to the bar where the bartender didn't even bother to look at us so we ended up leaving. Been to Taco Boy down in the Low Country aka Charleston for a while now and was excited to try the LoSo location when it opened not too long ago. We had reservation that was made in advance. When he got there we had to wait till the whole party came and had to wait an additional period of time to be seated as our table was not ready. Our reservation was. When we finally were sat down, I was able to get a good look at the place. It's a very trendy place with an open concept with mix indoor outdoor dining areas. On the night that we came there was live music playing techno music, which I like but was loud. The service was slow, but the server was trying her best to be there for us but it was packed so really not to much on her part. On to the food and drinks, the Margaritas were nothing to special as they were the house or "Casa" mix which just tasted like a fresher store bought mix. The chips and dips were alright but the star of the show was the Tinga con Pollo which was spectacular. Much to say from that everything else was mediocre. From growing up on the Charleston Taco Boy it was a little disappointing but had a little hint of the true Taco Boy in it. Probably won't be returning sadly read more

I'm normally not one to leave a review. Often times it seems that folks leave negative reviews and never mention the positive places or experiences they have. I want to change that and shine some light on the wonderful server and dining experience I had at TacoBoy! I dined in last Monday (2/12) with my friend, Rich. We had Sameese as our server, she was so friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered one of their seasonal cocktails, the Matcha Margarita and it was so delicious! We started with the TacoBoy Queso and the Shrimp & Crab Empanadas. The queso was your typical yummy, creamy cheese dip. The empanadas are a 2ct, which is perfect for sharing and comes with a spicy Chipotle aioli. For the mains he ordered Crab & Shrimp Quesadillas, and a Taco Platter (pick 3) and chose the Al Pastor, Carnitas, & Carne Asada tacos. I ordered a Taco Platter as well (pick 2) with a Grilled Fish and a Baja (you have the option between crispy shrimp or fish) and substituted the rice & beans for Esquites as my side. I was super happy with my food selections, everything came out fast and hot! We each had so much food leftover and Sameese offered to box it up for us to take home. I'll definitely return to try out the rest of their menu, and hopefully Sameese will be working so I can have her as my server again!!!! The MOD (I forget his name) stopped by our table multiple times in the couple hours we were there. He checked in with how we were doing and to get our feedback/or if there were any issues. It was nice to see management present on the floor and doing table touches with all the guests. The only "negative" I have is where the front door is located, it's not obvious it's the entrance. I went to the other door on the side, which is locked, before navigating around the patio to the correct door. While I was dining I saw at least 5 other guests try to come in the door I did, so I know that it's a common occurrence. read more

Cocktails were mediocre as they were premix, not made to order, and not a high quality compared to the price. Food was fine, nothing special for an American influenced Mexican restaurant. It was very busy, what restaurant isn't on a Friday night, but didn't seem adequately staffed for the volume of consumers. With that said Erin, Darrien, and Kristin created such a welcoming and fun environment that despite the mixups, we would love to come back on a less busy day to try again.
