After a day of thrifting with some friends we worked up an appetite and stopped by Taco Boy. This was a Saturday around 2pm maybe. It was pretty quiet in there, which we were happy about considering the timing and location. We were greeted and seated pretty quickly. I ordered the taco plate that comes with 2 tacos rice and beans. I tried the fried avo taco and the beef taco.. Both were really good but that fried avo taco is a winner for sure! The beans and rice were good too, I enjoyed everything. I also tried a strawberry margarita and that was also delish! Taco Boy is cute and quick. Great vibe! I loved the amount of outdoor space they had - especially with all of the garage door type openings - you could enjoy a nice day from any seat there. We stopped in on a Friday. The weather was great and the place was buzzing. We were immediately able to find a spot - they just have a ton of seating - and enjoyed the sunset. It took awhile for our server to find us, think it must've been a shift change or something, but once he came over, everything was great! He was super friendly. We ordered drinks - they seemed to be out of IPAs at the moment - and food. Everything was good! I'd say nothing here is going to change your life, but the food is solid and the vibe is great. They have a lot of tequila options, which was cool. Being right on the light rail, you can easily walk here (from Scaleybark station) and it's in a central location if you wanted to continue your night out at the bars! Ate at taco boy tonight for restaurant week. We got the guac and queso with chips which was pretty average. They didn't taste very fresh. For dinner I got the chicken bacon ranch taco and the firecracker taco. Both tacos were very flavorful but the side of rice and beans was also very average. We also got churros that are filled with a cream and tres leches for dessert. Overall the tacos were the best part and everything else was pretty average tasting. Not sure that I will go back. I think this place would be better off just allowing people to order the street tacos and making the sides add ons since they weren't very good. The tacos themselves had great flavor. read more

I think I have high hopes when I got for tacos as it relates to flavor. That is how I am starting this review. My friends talked this spot up a lot. A group of us went after an event so I was super excited. I think I am spoiled by other restaurant with a similar name in AZ, so I may be bias. There is street parking or you can catch the light rail right there. It's accessible. There's an outdoor area when it's warm. I got frozen lemonade, corn drip, and shredded chicken tacos with rice. The lemonade was great and the dip fantastic. I don't like wet chicken (saucy) in my tacos. I prefer flavor and the chicken being cooked well. The tacos were okay but I brought them home opened them and warmed them in the air fryer. The rice was good. Service was good as we had a big group. The even separated the bill which can be a lot. Went here for a quick lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was not very busy and we were seated quickly. The vibe I would call it retro meets neon western with a modern twist. Because I was here around 3 the place was practically empty (a nice change from when it's super packed). There are a lot of Mexican restaurants opening in Charlotte these days, and it can be a lot to keep up with. Taco Boy is one you won't want to miss though. It would be hard to miss, because the restaurant is prominently located along South Boulevard at the very hot LoSo area development. They have a vibrant somewhat tropical atmosphere and make a great spot for a night out with friends. They have some unique tacos as well as some more traditional ones. They also have a food happy hour from 4-6 that offers $2.00 tacos so if you have a hankering after work head on over for some tacos and beers. On my most recent visit I was craving a quesadilla and it came out nice and crispy with delicious grilled chicken. Came here at the end of their happy hour on a Thursday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Parking was easy to find on the street after I circled once. I found out they do validate if you park in the garage too. Service was speedy and the server did a great job of getting our order in before happy hour was up (the button disappears and you can't order after 6pm). I ordered the firecracker and americano tacos on soft corn shells. I wish I would have done a hard shell for the americano because the soft taco just didn't do it for me. The star was the firecracker shrimp taco on the soft corn shells. Great flavor and almost made me want another one! We also got margaritas and chips and queso and salsa for the table. It was perfect to share 2 things of each for all 7 of us. The seating and inside was intimate enough and open enough to see the tvs and the rest of the room without feeling like you were on top of the table next to you. Great experience! I was able to find a parallel parking spot out front but they also validate parking for 2 hours in the deck. The servers were very attentive and the food came out SO fast. I've been here several times before writing this review so here it goes: The food is really good, tacos, burritos, quesadillas...it's been consistent with no complaints. The drinks ..eh. I've sent drinks back because one tasted like juice...no alcohol was detected. Another time, the glass was barely filled and again it didn't taste like alcohol was present. A waiter walked past us and other staff members made eye contact with our table, but nobody came over. We had asked another server if we could place an order since happy hour was ending . Someone came over and our order wasn't even taken until 550. I got a spicy margarita and very unhappy with that and so was my friend. It is not worth $12! Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience at Taco Boy. We came here for a quick lunch and sat at the bar. I ordered the 2 taco lunch platter that came with rice and beans, with a carne asada and traditional taco. The carne asada taco was pretty good, the rice was also very buttery and fluffy. However, the refried beans had no flavor and were almost inedible to me. The worst part: the traditional taco had lettuce and I found a bug in it. That really kind of ruined the rest of the experience for me and it was hard to enjoy the rest of the meal after that. Thankfully, the server was very understanding and she had a new taco without lettuce brought out to me and I didn't have to pay for the platter. I was very thankful for such understanding and great service from our server, but as you can imagine it's just difficult for me to want to come back after that experience. read more

There is a parking garage behind the building but I was able to park on the street. The vibe was very lively with a DJ playing on Friday night. They answered all our questions and even offered to make me a mocktail when they heard I don't drink alcohol. 10/10 for the service. Have to figure out how to make it...or just come to Taco Boy for it! Inside, there is plenty of seating - tables and high tops - and even a rooftop, which will be great in warmer months! Taco Boy is located in Lower Southend (LoSo) on South Blvd, off of Clanton Road. Parking is available in the surrounding streets or the adjacent garage. You can also take the light rail, since it's fire toy across from the Scaleybark stop. So it's super convenient! The service is great from the staff! Even when they meet challenges during the opening days, they still provide great service with smiles! Can't wait to come back and try food options and more drinks! I recently went to taco boy for the first time and I had an amazing experience! Restaurants in Southend can often be unnecessarily over priced ... however that is not the case here! My friends and I were super excited to try Taco Boy in Charlotte, as we had heard good things about the Charleston location. We were kind of disappointed :/ The staff was wonderful, rate them 5/5. Would rate 3/5, but the staff increased my yelp review to 4/5. Overall 3.5/5 experience. They comp parking up to 90 mins in the garage, or street park for free. Hard to photograph when it's dark out! I've been wanting to try this spot since they opened. First off, it's alot bigger than I thought. There's a parking garage and they validate which is nice! They had a DJ playing when we walked in on a Friday night. It was really really loud so be prepared for that. Probably not best to go with families or young kids for dinner. For starters, we ordered a pitcher of house margaritas and the chip trio. We shared the pitcher between 4 of us and got about 9 margaritas out of it - definitely worth it. Cinco de Mayo is a crazy day to go to any Mexican restaurant but you do anyway! Managed to get two seats at the bar which is first come first serve, the place was packed inside and outside, they do take reservations but I hadn't made one as I wasn't sure of our timeframe. The service here I hope on a day that's not cinco de Mayo, is better than we had. From the minute we sat down til we left, the 3 servers at the bar were unhelpful, even though we were very polite about everything we asked for and we said "when we get a chance" before everything as we knew how busy they were. I didn't think we were being demanding or anything, but even at a bar seating you expect some level of service, but we got back 3 times, "we are reality busy, and can you be patient ", which we were considering no one took our order or would ask us if we needed anything and they acted like we were an inconvenience by just sitting there. Ironically a couple of guys who they obviously knew came in and sat next to us when the seats became available and they got served pretty much straight away, I am very understanding of places being busy, but these ladies were just rude. Basically we had to ask for menus, water, drinks, the bill, and each time, met with annoyance. So having said that, maybe on a normal day I hope the service would be better. As far as the food went, we kinda just wanted to eat and go, as we didn't really want to hang out where we didn't seem welcome. We ordered the taco platter, which is two tacos of your choice from a nice variety of proteins, and comes with rice and beans. I chose the grilled Mahi tacos and black beans. I really enjoyed the tacos, great piece of fish, the hot sauce they have us was really good and tasty, the server who bought our food out was actually super nice, very friendly and asked us if we needed anything else. At least we had one friendly face! The rice and beans were also really good. My friends grilled chicken tacos also were nice and tasty. Both tacos come with a nice amount of fixings. We also had the skinny margaritas, not sure if these are batch made normally, but they were today , and you can tell, they were fine, but I wouldn't order it again. They have a huge variety of drinks though, margaritas, beer, wine and other cocktails. Taco boy looks like a fun colorful place when you walk upto it, great patio seating, and indoor.
