The Hostess was excellent on sitting us down quickly, waitress took our drink and order accordingly! Authentic as they come... I really enjoyed my experience at El Nevado, the staff was incredibly kind, and professional. I went on a Tuesday at around 7pm, I was hoping for a "special" of some kind. Unfortunately they didn't have anything besides lunch specials. The dining room wasn't packed, but I opted to sit outside because the weather was so nice. The food was delicious, the chip and salsa came out quick which is always nice and gratis...even better. I tried the taco trio from the menu, you can pick 3 different kinds which is always a plus. I tried the asada, chicken, and al pastor. All came with distinct rich flavor, not too salty but perfectly seasoned. The location is very easy to access, with a decent parking lot that is free to park. South Blvd has a lot of quality Mexican restaurants, and this one is a welcomed addition. I've been following Tacos Nevado since covid and just made it in for the first time this past Wednesday. I wanted to like this place but it was just ok. Upon entry, everyone on staff just kind of stared at us and then called a lady from the back to assist. I'm guessing this happened because we didn't appear to know spanish and they called over the bilingual server but we actually both do. It's a very authentic place and I knew that going in. Anyways, as first timers we didn't know chips and salsa weren't complimentary. I wouldn't of minded paying but the option never given. We kept waiting for the basket but then the food came and it was too late. For food I got a chicken burrito (the one pictured on the menu) with the queso on it. The menu price and the charged price was different. I didn't realize the queso topping was extra. It's listed on the menu and on their website as part of the entree. I guess she rang it up differently vs as advertised and I didn't catch the difference until after we left. Again, I wanted the queso and I don't mind paying extra but price transparency would be nice. The food was good. I prefer pulled chicken but was told they only offered grilled for their burritos. I ate 1/2. My dining partner got 2 tacos. On Wednesdays they use blue corn shells. Server was nice. Ironically even if we did talk in Spanish she responded in English. I love Aguas de pepino but didn't realize they had that flavor until after we paid. The table behind us ordered one. They charge a service fee for cards and I didn't have cash so I decided to pass. If you're looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant in Charlotte, this is a solid option. The food was flavorful & authentic. My favorite dish out of all of the food we ordered was the burrito. We added additional protein for an extra charge but ultimately, I believe the prices are very reasonable. Chips & Queso are always my go to appetizer at a Mexican restaurant and although it wasn't the absolute best one I've ever had, it is still a must order. The restaurant has a decent amount of seating options however it is a little bit more snug so be mindful of that if you use anything where you need assistance to be mobil. The parking lot had an unnecessary amount of deep pot holes. Be super careful pulling into the lot and try to avoid them as best as you can. Unfortunately, they are in multiple areas of the lot. As far as service, I can't complain really. It wasn't anything that was outstanding, yet it wasn't bad at all. I can tell the restaurant is more popular since it was a full house. This has been my favorite spot for YEARS! authentic Mexican food and drinks. Came on a Saturzay for an early dinner around 3pm, and it was busy but able to get a table for 2. It is a small place, so be prepared to wait during their peak hours and seated closely next to others. Decided to eat tacos, which are $3.25 each. If you decide to get Tripa or lengua, which is specialty meat, you will be upcharged. They do NOT offer free chips and salsa like normal Mexican restaurants, which I thought was weird and disappointing. If you do want chips, they are $2. We ended up just ordering them to go along with our tacos. The tacos were AMAZING as I knew they would be. Great flavor, taste, and handmade corn tortillas. One of the employees came by to tell us they wanted to bring us lunch in appreciation of our support of the immigrant community. She came back right as we wrapped up with two catering trays of tacos, one chicken and the other beef. Both were very tasty and seemed authentic to this gringa who has visited Mexico many times. One of the best traditional taco places in Charlotte in one of the most diverse areas of the city. Taco El Nevado offers a pretty decent variety of affordable options in authentic Mexican food. The tacos are particularly delicious. My co-worker and I went to lunch and ordered a mix of tacos: chicken, shrimp, chicharron, chorizo, etc. We also ordered the passion fruit juice and horchata drink and had the flan for dessert. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is in its own stand alone building with plenty of free parking. It is easy to find. This is a fun place but not the fanciest, so keep that in mind. I recommend it for lunch as the food is pretty seasoned, and you probably don't want to go to bed with such a heavy and seasoned meal in your belly. If you're craving tacos, you definitely need to come here. This is probably one of the most authentic Mexican places. They serve you complimentary dips with chips in the beginning. Their tacos are delicious and I always love using their sauces. I feel like you couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. Staff was efficient and very friendly. While there are many new trendy Mexican/Latin American restaurants opening up in the city, there will always be a place for the small family owned authentic establishments. I have passed by this place many times while driving in south boulevard and the large signage and patio always catch my eye. I finally came in for lunch with a buddy and had an enjoyable experience. The ambience was very typical of a small hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. The kitschy (and I use that word with love) type of decor along with the plastic menus and finally the Mexican music. Upon being seated I was promptly brought not only chips but several bottles of different salsas of varying heat levels. There were no containers to pour the salsa into so my friend and I were a little confused. We ended up just using the bottles to pour a little bit of salsa onto each chip we ate before biting in. Not sure if this is correct but we made it work. Their menu is large with pretty much all of the staples from enchiladas to fajitas to tacos. Interestingly enough they also had hamburgers and hotdogs. I ended up getting a lunch special that included three crispy taquitos each smothered with a different topping, one in spicy salsa, one in salsa verde, and one in cheese. The found was very enjoyable. The service was a little slow and it took us a while before we were able to wave down our server to bring us our check but that's really my only complaint. I will for sure be back as their menu is so extensive there is a lot more for me to try! read more

Top tier for Mexican food on South Blvd. It's not conveniently located within walking distance to Southend, but it's worth the drive. Pricing is phenomenal and the menu options are diverse. Service is quick. If you speak Spanish, then that's a plus but not a requirement. If you look Hispanic then be prepared lol. Tacos and enchiladas are solid. Nachos are a must as they are the best in the area. Drink prices are fantastic. That's worth the price of admission alone. Ambiance is dated for sure. I just moved to Charlotte and was happy to find a nice authentic taco spot. They have a variety of options from tacos to burritos, tortas, enchiladas, and more. The interior reminds me of a your typical restaurant in Mexico. The staff was prompt and courteous. About 3 minutes into being seated we were greeted and orders were taken for drinks. I tried the house margarita. They only do a standard house margarita but the frozen margaritas allow you to select flavors such as strawberry or mango. The order also came with complimentary chips and salsa. The margarita is a great size and was super refreshing. It wasn't too strong so I'm sure you could easily have a couple and not have any issues. You're able to get it with salt, sugar, or without anything on the rim. I wanted to try a variety of tacos so I got the asada, carnitas, and shrimp. I loved all three but I will say I liked the shrimp taco most of all. It has a nice grilled/Char on it that I couldn't get enough of. The asada tacos were also a taco that I would love to try again. Wonderful restaurant! We were looking for a quick dinner before an event nearby and were so glad we found this place. The atmosphere was our first sign that we found an authentic tacos spot, and we were sat down quickly. Chips and salsa were put on our table while we waited for our order. I tried the barbacoa, al pastor, and asada tacos which were all delicious! My husband ordered the fish taco which was good, but he wasn't quite expecting it to be a whole fish filet instead of smaller pieces of fish. Based upon previous reviews, I couldn't wait to give this place a try. Even invited some people out to try it with me. Unfortunately, the visit fell short of our expectations. Unsure if this is due to COVID, but there is one way in & one way out. The restaurant was very clean which is a major plus but the customer service was not there at all. It took the server forever to take our order mind you we were the only people dining in. They appeared to be hiding in the kitchen so someone had to walk to the kitchen door just to get someone to come out - ridiculous ! Most places give you complimentary chips but not this place they wanted to charge for EVERYTHING! Not to mention the tacos went up to $2.75 but the quality was very mediocre. Two for one margaritas? Yes, please! My overall experience at Tacos El Nevado was underwhelming, but the margaritas tried their best. I like a flavorful taco, none of the four that I tried spoke to my spirit. We also tried the gordita which I was super excited about because I saw it on their Instagram (I'm that customer), yeah, not my favorite. This could have been an off day for Tacos El Nevado, because the place was relatively packed for a Tuesday. My go to when traveling to Charlotte twice a month, although service and value continue to drop. Chips and salsa are staples for authentic Mexican restaurants, but they stopped serving complimentary chips 'due to rising food costs'... understandable. Was there earlier this week and ordered guacamole for $8.50 and a small salsa size bowl gets delivered. I asked the head server if this is really $8.50 and she apologetically nodded. Not even a full avocado worth in the bowl for that price. Tacos came out and only the tortilla was the same as before... much less meat and a very small sprinkle of onions and cilantro. Showing the inside of my tacos to the server, I asked if I could get a little more onions and cilantro and to my surprise there was an extra charge of $2 on the bill for what should've been in the tacos already. I politely advised the server of my disappointment with the overall experience and she explained that many complain about the guac and there was nothing she could do about the tacos toppings. Place used to be great value and amazing service... will likely skip Mexican when in Charlotte moving forward; at least this spot is out of the rotation and lost my recommendations to others. read more

All I can say is Muy Fantastico! We had several different tacos and all were very tasty except the Al Pastor-- it was dry. Salsas hot and flavorful and the Charro beans hood too. Place was rockin on Saturday around 1 but service was timely. Only reason I didn't give a 5 was that they didn't put ice in our water! Rest of menu looks great! Came in during lunch time on a Tuesday and man it was the place to be! We were alittle confused on if we self sat, if we waited to be sat or go to the walk up counter and order food. But we did see a hostess stand next to the counter and we were seated promptly. We started off with chips, queso and big margaritas. They did not have taco specials, only lunch specials. ** I went back and looked on their social media page and it says Thursday they have $2 select tacos. I ordered the Birria Tacos - loved all the cheese and the meat was so tender! Very good and I would order it again. Service was a little slow was it was lunch time and I only saw about two servers. I'm actually not a fan of Mexican foods, but after seeing at least half a dozen delicious looking pics of these Birria Tacos on my Instagram feed, I decided to check them out. Given that my husband is a big fan of Mexi foods, he was more than willing to honor my quest. Well, things got a bit complicated. We first arrived early, around 5:30 pm, and right away, I asked about these Birria Tacos...and the waitress said that they won't be ready until about 7-7:30 pm. Huh?? I thought that was extremely poor planning...given this was Saturday night. I mean, why couldn't they be ready by 6 pm, even earlier?? ANYWAY, we decided to kill some time around town, and swing back later. SO...we drive back here the same night, around 7 pm to order these Birria Tacos. Well, we waited...and waited...nearly one hour!! OMG? During this long wait, the waitress didn't even once come by the table to apologize for the wait, explain the delay, nothing! In fact, she (and other waitresses) went out of the way NOT to even look in our direction. It's as if something went awry in the kitchen, and they didn't want to be questioned (??). BTW, we were seated right behind the swinging kitchen door (OMG that was so annoying too!), where it flew open every few seconds, so our waitress passed by us dozens of times...with a deliberate effort NOT to even look at us. BTW, we had to flag down every other maskless waiter for every little thing...water, utensils, etc. etc. *SIGH* ANYWAY, AFTER 8 pm, we were served our Birria Tacos. Well, it was good, but sadly for me, not THAT good. For some reason, I expected more flavor. Given how these Tacos were the talk of the town, I felt as if something might have gone awry. Maybe these Birrias weren't cooked quite right on this particular night? Given that the beef was part of a stew, it was tender and juicy and all...but where's the incredible flavor that I was expecting? Even the sauce that came with it wasn't that strong. Even my husband said the flavor was subtle...mild. Just not what I was expecting. Think I was expecting something that was packed with a punch of flavor...something sweet, spicy and savory (like Galbi Jjim?). If I had to describe the flavor of Burria, it wasn't sweet or spicy...just had a subtle, mildly savory taste. This can't be the flavor everyone is so crazy over...or is it??? Also, the taco shells were literally drenched with grease. Were these shells supposed to be greasy?? BTW, we also shared a side of Mexican Rice...and that was actually pretty good. We also ordered Flan for dessert, and honestly, it just tasted like cheap Jello (we barely ate this)...and luckily, it only costed $2.50, so no big loss. The one thing I really enjoyed here was their Pina Colada. It was delicious, and HUGE...easily a serving for 2! Again, I feel that we hit a really bad night, and that we probably didn't get the typical Birria Tacos. What we had simply can't be what everyone in town is hyping over. I honestly think that something went awry in the kitchen, and that they had to rush-cook this thing or something. Maybe out of an ingredient or two?? That HAD to be it. Anyway, at least I got a taste of what these special Tacos are...or supposed to be? I may be up for trying these again in the future (maybe the next version will be the real thing???)...but I'm not waiting an hour for these...definitely NOT worth that long a wait (at least for me). read more
