That said, I still come back--because the food here is consistently good. The crispy tacos with picadillo are my current favorite. Picadillo (P-I-C-A-D-I-L-L-O) is a traditional Latin dish with many regional variations, and this version reminds me of the one my grandmother used to make in San Antonio. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and the menu offers something for everyone--from enchiladas and chile rellenos to steaks and fresh tableside guacamole. Speaking of guacamole, I'm a purist. I like it simple: avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, garlic--chunky and clean. Superica delivers on that. The chips and salsa are bottomless, the salsa has great depth of flavor, and for those who like heat, they offer a tiny dropper of hot sauce that is smoky, bold, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. The ginger margarita is another standout. It comes with a generous piece of crystallized ginger and has a bright, balanced flavor that makes it easy to order a second one. And if you have room for dessert, do not skip the tres leches cake--rich, decadent, and a perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciate the little touches here: * Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff * A lively bar area that's great for happy hour * A beautiful outdoor patio that makes al fresco dining feel special * And a fun tradition of sending you home with a packaged Texas praline This South End location is my personal favorite. Had a nice dinner with friends here on Monday night. It was quite packed at 7 PM and we were seated at a round table for 6. It was really loud for me and could only hear the people next to me. Ordered some drinks and they seemed to be backed up as it took awhile, but their cocktails were very good and yummy. I do like their family style of chips and salsa, especially the spicy green sauce in the bottle. However, it would be nice to have some spoons to share the salsa for the group. I had the cheese enchiladas and it was really delicious. The enchilada sauce was tasty. The rice and beans are also family style and was a nice addition. I asked what came with the huevos rancheros and was directed back to the menu "it comes with what it says there." What it says is two tortillas, two scrambled eggs and sauce. Can't believe that's the whole thing. Decided to pass,., This trip we asked for a table away from the door as it was very cold out. Our party and every one after us was sat in the front area. Quality Tex-mex in Charlotte?? Say no more. I was a bit concerned returning since they changed the menu, but was glad to see that the quality of their food has not changed at all. Went for brunch and opted for the Migas Al Carbon (pictured), the queso (pictured) and the chorizo potato and eggs (not pictured). The chicken is perfectly smoked and tender, the tortillas in the Migas were impossibly crispy, and the salsas all offered a brightness and needed pop of acid. I often dream about their Queso, and think it might be Charlotte's best! The cocktails I tried were a little disappointing; for a Tex-Mex restaurant I think a margarita should be over the top good, but theirs was extremely sweet, and lacked any lime flavor. I ordered a vegetarian Taco Dinner with 1 hard shell and 2 soft. The kitchen initially messed up my order and brought me all hard shells, but the server quickly took it back to the kitchen and it was re-served to me correctly within 2 minutes. The rice & beans were a basic white rice and black beans, but the menu advertised the meal with fried beans and Mexican rice. I didn't care enough to question this substitution as much as I did with the wrong shells. After tasting both sets of shells, I definitely preferred the soft over the hard one. Server was nice and quick. Food had giant portions so you really get your money's worth. I love Tex-Mex food so I'd go to this place again. I had told the waitress and even another staff member several times that it was my fiancé's birthday and that I would like to put an order in for a dessert. They never came, which I understand is a small oversight on a somewhat busy night, and I do not fault anyone, but I can't lie and say it wasn't disappointing. And honestly, this meal did upset our stomachs a little, so I feel like my overall opinion will be difficult to give considering the meal did not sit well with me. Overall this is a prime location and a fun vibe but the food is just okay for how long it takes to get a table. It also takes a long time to get a drink at the bar.
