It's not a sope, not a tostada--it's a true puffy taco, light, airy, and unlike anything else. For a long time, Superica made one that came remarkably close to what I grew up with. Unfortunately, after changes in leadership and kitchen management, it quietly disappeared from the menu. That was a real disappointment. That said, I still come back--because the food here is consistently good. The crispy tacos with picadillo are my current favorite. Picadillo (P-I-C-A-D-I-L-L-O) is a traditional Latin dish with many regional variations, and this version reminds me of the one my grandmother used to make in San Antonio. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and the menu offers something for everyone--from enchiladas and chile rellenos to steaks and fresh tableside guacamole. Speaking of guacamole, I'm a purist. I like it simple: avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, garlic--chunky and clean. Superica delivers on that. The chips and salsa are bottomless, the salsa has great depth of flavor, and for those who like heat, they offer a tiny dropper of hot sauce that is smoky, bold, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. The ginger margarita is another standout. It comes with a generous piece of crystallized ginger and has a bright, balanced flavor that makes it easy to order a second one. And if you have room for dessert, do not skip the tres leches cake--rich, decadent, and a perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciate the little touches here: * Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff * A lively bar area that's great for happy hour * A beautiful outdoor patio that makes al fresco dining feel special * And a fun tradition of sending you home with a packaged Texas praline This South End location is my personal favorite. It feels more adult and relaxed, while the Strawberry Hill location tends to be more family-heavy. Both are good, but the vibe here suits me better. Yes, prices have crept up a bit--as they have everywhere--but the quality, consistency, and atmosphere keep me coming back. And as someone who travels frequently for work across multiple states, I appreciate that Superica maintains a dependable standard wherever I encounter it. Had a nice dinner with friends here on Monday night. It was quite packed at 7 PM and we were seated at a round table for 6. It was really loud for me and could only hear the people next to me. Ordered some drinks and they seemed to be backed up as it took awhile, but their cocktails were very good and yummy. I do like their family style of chips and salsa, especially the spicy green sauce in the bottle. However, it would be nice to have some spoons to share the salsa for the group. I had the cheese enchiladas and it was really delicious. The enchilada sauce was tasty. The rice and beans are also family style and was a nice addition. Quality Tex-mex in Charlotte?? Say no more. I was a bit concerned returning since they changed the menu, but was glad to see that the quality of their food has not changed at all. Went for brunch and opted for the Migas Al Carbon (pictured), the queso (pictured) and the chorizo potato and eggs (not pictured). The chicken is perfectly smoked and tender, the tortillas in the Migas were impossibly crispy, and the salsas all offered a brightness and needed pop of acid. I often dream about their Queso, and think it might be Charlotte's best! The cocktails I tried were a little disappointing; for a Tex-Mex restaurant I think a margarita should be over the top good, but theirs was extremely sweet, and lacked any lime flavor. I also tried their seasonal mimosa Fresca, and at $10 it was just okay. Hopefully the drinks were just a one off. read more

My husband and I were on a time crunch for a show at the Spectrum Center, so I made a reservation here about a week ahead of time for dinner. I'm glad I did because they were busy on a Saturday night! We were seated immediately once we arrived. The interior was absolutely beautiful with lots of natural light from the windows. After we were seated, the server brought us free chips & salsa. The chips were good, but the salsa wasn't for me. I love chunky red salsa and they gave us a salsa verde. I ordered a vegetarian Taco Dinner with 1 hard shell and 2 soft. The kitchen initially messed up my order and brought me all hard shells, but the server quickly took it back to the kitchen and it was re-served to me correctly within 2 minutes. The rice & beans were a basic white rice and black beans, but the menu advertised the meal with fried beans and Mexican rice. I didn't care enough to question this substitution as much as I did with the wrong shells. After tasting both sets of shells, I definitely preferred the soft over the hard one. Server was nice and quick. Food had giant portions so you really get your money's worth. I love Tex-Mex food so I'd go to this place again. Stopped to meet some work friends for lunch on a Thursday, safe to say it was an AWESOME choice. Place is situated in an old knitting mill giving the old rustic feeling, but they incorporated a good tex-mex vibe with murals and some southwestern memorabilia. I had told the waitress and even another staff member several times that it was my fiancé's birthday and that I would like to put an order in for a dessert. They never came, which I understand is a small oversight on a somewhat busy night, and I do not fault anyone, but I can't lie and say it wasn't disappointing. And honestly, this meal did upset our stomachs a little, so I feel like my overall opinion will be difficult to give considering the meal did not sit well with me. I ordered the taco dinner and got 1 hard & 2 soft tacos. The food was delicious and very filling! We were also served chips and salsa prior to our entrees. They have 2 different kinds of salsa.. 1 mild and 1 hot. I forgot what everyone else ordered but they enjoyed their food as well. Service was excellent! The restaurant was clean. He also was just pulling every goated server move he could, i would ask for him if you are coming for your first time. The suizas is their most popular but I liked the verde more. The dishes are very overpriced. I did like their fresh salsas and they gave us plenty of refills. Bandit queen and frozen marg were okay. Overall this is a prime location and a fun vibe but the food is just okay for how long it takes to get a table. It also takes a long time to get a drink at the bar.
