My friends went with the steak bowl, and it was packed with tender, perfectly seasoned steak and all the right toppings. We also shared the trio dip to start--queso, guac, and salsa with warm chips--and it was absolutely delicious. Everything came out hot and tasted homemade. The highlight, though, was the service. Our waiter was so sweet, attentive, and genuinely friendly without being over the top. He made great recommendations and kept our drinks filled without us even having to ask. Unfortunately, the tortillas broke apart and lacked the texture and flavor I was hoping for. Jerk Pork Taco (4/5): Nice blend of flavors. Street Corn : The street corn was tasty and flavorful...perfectly balancing sweet and savory notes. It was just so much yummy goodness! Nachos: The nachos were not only packed with flavor, but the toppings were thoughtfully layered. There's nothing worse than ordering nachos only to eat all the toppings off the chips, leaving just plain chips behind. Here, the meat-to-nacho ratio was excellent! Tacos: The tacos were outstanding. I'm a fan of authentic street tacos from certain food trucks in the area, and South Bound's tacos definitely passed the vibe check! The Carne Asada taco was a delightful surprise--so delicious that it sneaked up on me like a thief in the night. My boyfriend ordered two extra tacos because I always want "just a bite," proving he knows me well. He chose this spot because it's one of his favorites, and he wasn't wrong. Tried SouthBound today for the first time for CLT Taco Week! Can't beat $4 tacos. Tacos were delicious! I think they can do without the lettuce and tomato on the side, unnecessary and doesn't go with the flavors of the tacos. Inside is so cute. Feels more casual but not too casual, the perfect ambiance. Love the outdoor area. We will be coming back for brunch on a sunny day for build your own Bloody Mary bar and bottomless mimosas! Came here with coworkers for a late lunch. Parking was easy to find in the large lot next to the building. We had a big group and were sat down quickly. Service was great and we got our food within 5-10 minutes. I ordered two tacos and a side: brisket barbacoa, carnitas, and a side of fried plantains. I was excited to try this place due to their social media posts and videos. The food looked great, the ambience looked fun, and I wanted to check out the yard for future music events. Unfortunately, I most likely will never go back to this place again. Where is the manager? Over half the bar had glasses and plates of half finished food and drinks. Plus the majority of the tables in the bar and restaurant were not bused. There was an argument among a couple patrons and upon going to the front to get seated we were informed that one of them had a gun on his waistband. We were told to go wait at the bar and when the hostess got back she would come seat us. She came over about 10 minutes later to put is on a wait list! Mind you there were several tables available (if they weren't filled with half empty plates of food and empty drinks) and we could have easily sat at the bar if we were greeted or helped there (oh yeah, and if the bar was cleared off and wiped down). All in all, I'd say this is a management problem. There is no direction here, no discipline, and clearly the employees either don't care or don't know any better. Hire more people, hire different people, I don't know. But be a manager! read more

Came here for Cinco De Mayo. I expected it to be busy and crowded but the service was very slow because they had very few wait staff! A few tables sat open I assume because they didn't have enough servers. There was not enough staff to clear tables Or clean up. Water spilled on the floor and no one cleaned it up, just put a wet floor sign out while people stepped around it. The drinks were good though. We had chips and salsa, guacamole and queso. All very good and made fresh. I had the 3 tacos and a side. My selection was a chicken taco that was just ok I would not have it again, a jerk pork that I didn't like it came with cut up plantains with a mango salsa just horrible. My absolute favorite was the fried red snapper taco, it was delicious and if I come back it will be for that. The place is definitely spacious, lots of room. You don't feel like you are on top of each other. There is an outdoor space. They are dog friendly. I'll be back to give them another time but maybe at another non busy time and will sit out door. Also with the handheld POS machine the tip for a larger party is a little confusing I requested a receipt and our waiter said he couldn't find it or print it even though I hit the print button. 2nd time coming here in years and no complaints. Arrived right at 12 pm. on a Sunday, and we were seated immediately. Our waitress Olivia was awesome. Gave great recommendations and was super patient with us. My friend and I ordered from their brunch menu, and she got the cinnamon French toast, and I got the breakfast burrito. All was delicious. The French toast had the right amount of crispy sugar to it, and the breakfast burrito had everything from eggs, bacon, chicken, French fries, beans, and rice. Additionally, there is a cute little bus/van you can go in and possibly take pictures with friends in the middle of the restaurant. The drink was disappointing because the basil and lavender flavors were lacking, so It tasted like a weak strawberry mule which was a tad underwhelming. The ginger beer tasted flat and you could barely taste the vodka. Overall, there were other drinks on the menu that sounded great that you can choose from. The menu has a great selection and there was a lot to choose from. I always default to choosing fajitas and this did not disappoint! As seen in the picture, the portion size for one which was HUGE and it came with about your choice of flour/corn tortillas. I believe mine came with 5-6 flour tortillas. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the rice was tasty, and sauce was perfect *insert chef's kiss* I did not eat all of my food and ate off of my leftovers twice the next day. I mean, not even room temp. It's as if they took it out of the fridge and plated it. I started to nibble at each protein and take the tortillas apart. Individually, each tortilla was given abundant toppings, including cremea. It's interesting that the cold meat had no flavor but was cooked appropriately. The queso was ok. It did come put warm. So, no complaints there. I ordered a strawberry lavender mule, and that was huge. It had a subtle flavor as the Lavender canceled the strawberry, and it was light in alcohol. Came on a Friday expecting it to be busy and it wasn't at all. But they're open till midnight so perhaps I got here before the crowds. Ample parking in their lot and was seated right away. Be aware that at night it is quite dark in the restaurant due to the lighting they use. The restaurant is inspired by Mexican and Caribbean food so the decor and ambiance reflects that. The music is very beachesque and feels as though you're on vacation with a mix of reggae, beach covers, etc. The drink menu is ample and they have just about any liquor you could ask for. I got a Mojito and it was fabulous and not watered down so I could actually taste the liquor. I ordered the trio dip and got it within 2 minutes of ordering. The guacamole is incredibly fresh and made simply. The queso is fantastic and I wish I could bottle it up. The salsa was not my favorite and bordered on being a mix of tomato sauce and salsa. The 3 are not hot and are good for those with low spice intolerance. The chips are freshly fried and served warm. Honestly I would come back just for this as it was amazing. I ordered 3 tacos: the Caribbean, the Avocado and Street Corn and the Carne Asada. The Caribbean taco is spicy so be aware, but extremely flavorful and the chicken was cooked excellently. The Carne Asada was different than the classic with large pieces of steak and a drizzle of chimichurri on top, but super good and well worth the money for the amount of meat in the taco. The Avocado one was my absolute favorite and may I say life changing. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. read more

This restaurant is located in a building that houses other businesses as well, so even though there is a parking lot beside it, it is small. However, there was plenty of street parking. We were seated immediately in a booth towards the front of the restaurant. We ordered chips and salsa for an appetizer and for an entree I ordered the grilled chicken burrito. Our entrees came out before the chips and salsa. As far as food, everything was just good. It did seem a little overpriced for what it was. Overall this was a fine restaurant, which is why the 3 stars. Nothing wowed me, but also nothing horrible. From the service, to the food, to the value everything was average. I don't go out of my way to rate anyplace good or bad unless it earned it. I must say had I rated southbound the first time I came here it would have been mediocre at best. I decided to give it an another shot and the new chef had added a Caribbean twist that was a complete game changer. If you have up on this place as I had give it another try. We had family traveling with us, so we brought them there for lunch. First, they've changed some of the seating. A lot of the hightops in the bar area are gone now, replaced with booths and living room furniture. This didn't affect our experience, I just noticed the difference. I was surprised, though, that they charge for chips and salsa now. And I didn't think about it when our server asked us if we wanted a refill, but it was an additional charge. It was a bit off-putting when their meals are a little on the pricey side for Mexican/Tex-Mex. I ordered the 3-piece taco dish and it was about $15 with no sides. They were good (especially the shrimp one and chicken tinga one). Another member of my party ordered basic enchiladas and they were super spicy for her, so she didn't eat a lot of it. The rest of the food was just okay. I just wasn't feeling the same vibes that I used to experience. And neither did our taste buds (or my wallet). Today I had my first visit to SouthBound. I'm a lover of all things close to Mexican- so this menu seeemed like a hit! Chips and salsa are extra but inexpensive. They were less than $2. I got tacos, and they were small, really small. I got corn tortillas- maybe this was the problem? My friend got flour and his tacos were much larger. Parking- I parked behind the building by the barber, which is part of the building. DO NOT do this!! People parked behind me and were double parked and I was trapped!
