Shrimp Taco, Jerk Pork Taco, and Brisket Barbacoa Taco
    Ian N.

Overall, the tacos were small and the corn tortillas were very disappointing. I wish they were flash fried so that they weren't so brittle. Unfortunately, the tortillas broke apart and lacked the texture and flavor I was hoping for. Jerk Pork Taco (4/5): Nice blend of flavors. The jerk spices paired nicely with the acidity from the pineapple salsa and the sweetness of the plantains. Shrimp Taco (4/5): The shrimp was juicy and the aioli was nice (but not spicy). Brisket Barbacoa Taco (3/5): Tasted like a standard barbacoa taco. Pretty one dimensional. *Service was VERY slow on the Sunday afternoon when I went. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

I found easy parking as they have a parking lot attached to the restaurant, so that was a major plus. I walked in and stood at the door for about 5 to 8 minutes as two waiters walked frantically back-and-forth so they were clearly short staffed, so I set myself. within a minute or two a guy came over and apologized for not being able to see me and got me a menu. I decided to go with the tortillas and salsa for my appetizer and the Bulgogi bowl as my entree. The tortillas were not warm but tasty and my bowl came out about 5minutes later. The bowl was DELICIOUS, I even googled how to make it a home. Southbound struggled with timely customer Service today but my food was great and the waiter I had was very apologetic, I'll def be back!

I don't understand the low reviews. We had a good experience both with our food and the staff. We stopped in for lunch. It was not busy but it looked like a cool place to hang out. Great outdoor patio and a cool covered patio section. Cool vibes throughout. This is a SoCal inspired restaurant. I had the Brisket Barbacoa Burrito traditional style (fries and all). It took me right back to a typical burrito stand in Southern California. It was very good with $4 beer specials. Definitely worth a try.

First time visit and I have zero complaints! The vibe is inviting and like a little Caribbean getaway. The strawberry basil lavender mules are delicious!! I had a the curry shrimp dinner and it was full of flavors and you could taste the freshness of the shrimp. The goat empanadas were shockingly amazing. I didn't think I would enjoy those. Make sure you get the trio dip which comes with salsa, guacamole (it's spicy!) and queso. Ask for Rachel!! She's the best!!

Taco Tuesday at South Bound!!! This is my second time visiting South Bound, and once again, it did not disappoint. We came specifically for Taco Tuesday, and the prices were incredibly affordable, especially considering the quality of the food. Phat Gurl Highlights! Street Corn : The street corn was tasty and flavorful...perfectly balancing sweet and savory notes. It was just so much yummy goodness! Nachos: The nachos were not only packed with flavor, but the toppings were thoughtfully layered. There's nothing worse than ordering nachos only to eat all the toppings off the chips, leaving just plain chips behind. Here, the meat-to-nacho ratio was excellent! Tacos: The tacos were outstanding. I'm a fan of authentic street tacos from certain food trucks in the area, and South Bound's tacos definitely passed the vibe check! The Carne Asada taco was a delightful surprise--so delicious that it sneaked up on me like a thief in the night. My boyfriend ordered two extra tacos because I always want "just a bite," proving he knows me well. He chose this spot because it's one of his favorites, and he wasn't wrong. Service: Our experience was further enhanced by the excellent service. Trevor was very attentive and had a great personality, making our visit all the more enjoyable. It was an all-around great experience!

Came here for Cinco De Mayo. I expected it to be busy and crowded but the service was very slow because they had very few wait staff! A few tables sat open I assume because they didn't have enough servers. There was not enough staff to clear tables Or clean up. Water spilled on the floor and no one cleaned it up, just put a wet floor sign out while people stepped around it. The drinks were good though. We had chips and salsa, guacamole and queso. All very good and made fresh. I had the 3 tacos and a side. My selection was a chicken taco that was just ok I would not have it again, a jerk pork that I didn't like it came with cut up plantains with a mango salsa just horrible. My absolute favorite was the fried red snapper taco, it was delicious and if I come back it will be for that. The place is definitely spacious, lots of room. You don't feel like you are on top of each other. There is an outdoor space. They are dog friendly. I'll be back to give them another time but maybe at another non busy time and will sit out door. Also with the handheld POS machine the tip for a larger party is a little confusing I requested a receipt and our waiter said he couldn't find it or print it even though I hit the print button. My suggestion is to get more staff because I am on the fence with if I'll come back.

We sat at the bar and there was a musician singing and playing guitar on the patio. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming! We got some yummy margaritas and our bartender created a coconut marg on the rocks from scratch (off the menu ). He made us two different ones to try, one that was more sweeter, and one with more sourness! They were both delicious! The food was phenomenal and they have a lot of Gluten Free options. They were all great portion sizes and the flavor was great. The tacos were great heated up the next day (which you don't find to be true often)! Super great place, free parking, great food, yummy drink specials, and tons of space!

Tried SouthBound today for the first time for CLT Taco Week! Can't beat $4 tacos. Tacos were delicious! I think they can do without the lettuce and tomato on the side, unnecessary and doesn't go with the flavors of the tacos. Inside is so cute. Feels more casual but not too casual, the perfect ambiance. Love the outdoor area. We will be coming back for brunch on a sunny day for build your own Bloody Mary bar and bottomless mimosas! Margarita was really yummy, and it is hard to find a good marg in charlotte... Queso was good! Tasted like they thicken it with flour, so if you have a gluten allergy be sure to ask (I did not ask). The corn tortillas are really good, not flimsy or soggy or crumbly.

Came here with coworkers for a late lunch. Parking was easy to find in the large lot next to the building. We had a big group and were sat down quickly. Service was great and we got our food within 5-10 minutes. I ordered two tacos and a side: brisket barbacoa, carnitas, and a side of fried plantains. The carnitas were juicy and flavored well with the cream sauce to contrast the savory flavor of the meat. The fried plantains were great and exactly what I was craving. I was really hungry and felt full with this portion of tacos, plantains, and chips and guacamole. I will definitely be back!

2nd time coming here in years and no complaints. Arrived right at 12 pm. on a Sunday, and we were seated immediately. Our waitress Olivia was awesome. Gave great recommendations and was super patient with us. My friend and I ordered from their brunch menu, and she got the cinnamon French toast, and I got the breakfast burrito. All was delicious. The French toast had the right amount of crispy sugar to it, and the breakfast burrito had everything from eggs, bacon, chicken, French fries, beans, and rice. All was delicious and there were no complaints. There was a DJ spinning all the latest in music. I thought it would be much busier when, in reality, it was not, and it was nice to be able to have our little private conversation. Definitely will come back maybe during lunchtime and try other things on their menu.

We sat in the yard yesterday, we done here often but yesterday I think the server was just a little too busy for us. So we didn't get to order as much as we wanted to.

    Trio Dip

Came on a Friday expecting it to be busy and it wasn't at all. But they're open till midnight so perhaps I got here before the crowds. Ample parking in their lot and was seated right away. Be aware that at night it is quite dark in the restaurant due to the lighting they use. The restaurant is inspired by Mexican and Caribbean food so the decor and ambiance reflects that. The music is very beachesque and feels as though you're on vacation with a mix of reggae, beach covers, etc. The drink menu is ample and they have just about any liquor you could ask for. I got a Mojito and it was fabulous and not watered down so I could actually taste the liquor. I ordered the trio dip and got it within 2 minutes of ordering. The guacamole is incredibly fresh and made simply. The queso is fantastic and I wish I could bottle it up. The salsa was not my favorite and bordered on being a mix of tomato sauce and salsa. The 3 are not hot and are good for those with low spice intolerance. The chips are freshly fried and served warm. Honestly I would come back just for this as it was amazing. I ordered 3 tacos: the Caribbean, the Avocado and Street Corn and the Carne Asada. The Caribbean taco is spicy so be aware, but extremely flavorful and the chicken was cooked excellently. The Carne Asada was different than the classic with large pieces of steak and a drizzle of chimichurri on top, but super good and well worth the money for the amount of meat in the taco. The Avocado one was my absolute favorite and may I say life changing. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

I specifically asked the server, Ohran, what tacos were included in the 2.50 street tacos listed on their board as their Tuesday special and was told all of them. I then asked him again "so all the tacos are considered street tacos" and he said yes. So, imagine my surprise when we received the receipts and were charged full price. Yeah I'll never be back and that sucks because the tacos were so good thanks to the Honduran chef who smokes a lot of weed (that's what our server told us. Very professional of him right?????).

I do think the price was a bit much considering what I ordered but it wasn't terrible. I would appreciate fresh house made corn tortillas vs hard store bought ones but it's charlotte after all. And what's with the one tortilla? True Cali tacos come with two tortillas. The chicken taco was greasy and the loose guacamole wasn't able to absorb into the hard tortilla. It was messy! However, I'd order the steak taco again. I loved the pickled onions on the side, they were a nice addition to the steak. Not really a southern Cali thing but a nice twist I enjoyed.
