Naj found this casual restaurant on a beautiful day in North Carolina when we wanted to eat brunch. We were seated outdoors and it was so breezy and nice. The place was bustling with couples, families, and groups of friends. We had a wonderful waiter who was extremely friendly and catered to our every need. My friend and I were in town and someone recommended we try this place. It was a busy night, but they were able to quickly find us a table. It was off to the side with two comfy armchairs across from the fireplace. We were delighted with such cozy seating. I ordered and Mule and she got a Margarita. Our drinks were perfection, 10/10. After a rather bad few days for my wife I decided to roll the dice and try this place having never been in before Firstly the lay out is beautiful the staff were very welcoming and friendly we got seated Jonny who was incredibly friendly and professional after he took our drink order he brought over a sample of the plantain chips and a new garlic and lime dip that was incredible When this was brought to the table Jonny had a trainee with him who was just the best told us about the new dip and asked for our honest feedback (honestly I'd drink the stuff so tasty) We had a small chat about how much he enjoyed his new job and he really shined showing personalty and a honest enjoyment of his role now I know full well how hard it can be to find staff like this and I would feel I would be doing a disservice to the staff if I didn't voice how much this made the experience of the meal plus the food was just perfect great price great selection brilliant mix of flavors (ask for the habanero salsa) Cam brought this over as I said I enjoyed spicy and boy did it kick in the best way At the end I found the manager who like myself was from across the pond as I had to thank her and all the staff for bringing a smile to mine and my wife's day we left full happy and laughing over the banter we had with the staff As someone who has worked in a customer service roll all his life I must say these guys are a credit to the business we will be back for sure Jonny and Cam earned us as life time customers by just being themselves many thanks read more

I've been to Southbound in the past just for margaritas. I recently revisited for lunch. The margaritas taste like a glass of mix with no tequila in sight. I also tried the new Mojito, it's basically a glass of Natalie's lime juice, it's even green. Surprised they aren't using fresh ingredients. The drinks are offered at a great price point but, you're paying for a glass of juice. We tried the tacos for lunch: chicken, shrimp and snapper. They were soggy and wet and bland. I truly enjoyed SouthBound... food, sports, and service were all amazing! This was my first time visiting and it just so happens to be a Panthers and Giants game which made my experience all that better! Sunday afternoon was perfect as there wasn't many people, food came out quick and the staff was really accommodating. I'm sure many others didn't have the experience I had, but even before the food came I was impressed. Then dj was jammin also... he played old skool, new skool and things I've never heard of but we kept moving!! Now lets talk food! I ordered the So-Cal Nachos with brisket as my protein. This was a pretty large portion of nachos and loaded with all the flavors and topping. There is just enough pico, black beans, queso, and queso fresco to make it a meal on its own... the brisket made it a meal for two! We stopped for a drink after a long walk around the neighborhood. We order a beer and a local liquor. The waitress brought fresh-fried totopos and red source, which we enjoyed very much. We did not order any food, but the plates looked delicious. Everything is Mexican. The ambiance is very chill, like a tiki bar but in a city. It is pet-friendly so that you can bring your fur friend. Southbound - how they stay in business is beyond me. Met some girlfriends tonight and apparently me joining was our server's absolute biggest inconvenience. Finally, after many charades and hand gestures, got her attention for a water and a protein bowl. My friends ordered another round as they had already eaten. She forgot my water as well as come back to our table. The bar tender brought the drinks. Another server brought me a water. A third person brought my food. I had no silverware so when we finally grabbed her attention again, she was super snarky and replied with how it was the hostesses job to give us silverware. No apology or anything. Let it go. Pictured below is the build your own protein bowl with half lettuce, half rice; black beans; corn, sweet potatoes, and peppers/onions. Chihuahua cheese and queso. Salsa and sour cream. Topped with shrimp. (4/10 rating) I also got elote...maybe it's the time of year but I took one bite and it was gross - zero flavor, smothered in Mayo and couldn't taste any Cotija cheese or Chile powder. 1/10. Sent back, did not take off the tab. Another 20 min go by, caught the eye of a different server who grabbed our server for our checks and a box. She got lost or something cause we had to search for her again. Love coming to SouthBound for a bite to eat and a margarita before heading next-door to The Music Yard! I've had the pleasure of dining here twice in the past two months and both experiences have been wonderful. The restaurant has plenty of parking, super friendly bartenders, great service, a plentiful menu with reasonable prices, clean restrooms and I love the open air part of the bar and restaurant; super fun vibe! There are plenty of tables and booths inside as well. They play some great Deep House music on nights that they have DJs next-door; you'll hear anything from RUFUS DU SOL, Eli & Fur, Nora en Pure etc. Loved my spicy mango margarita and their guacamole is chunky & delicious! Before we left, we took the bartenders recommendation and ordered the churros and man oh man were they tasty! Our whole group enjoyed them and we would definitely get them again. First time at Southbound and I had an amazing experience! Went with friends on a Monday night. I love the area the restaurant is in because there are so many other bars + restaurants that are close to the south end area that you can explore and try. When we got there we were seated immediately which was great. The service was nice as well and our waiter was very attentive. I had the pleasure of trying their new fried octopus taco that just got added to their menu. The taco was really good and the flavors all came together between a corn tortilla. I also tried the Baja fish was my 2nd favorite. Came here on a Sunday at around 1pm and there was no wait! My party of 6 was seated right away and it was great. Usually it's hard to find a place with no wait for Sunday brunch in South End. I also love that they have a huge parking lot! The restaurant is very nice and open. It felt like we were on the beach cuz of the open seating, tropical plants and decorations. We sat outside where the live DJ was playing awesome music. It felt like we were at a party! Some couples were dancing in the front and it was great to watch while we ate. Sunday 9/12/21 - Panthers Game Day - First home game of 2021 -V- NY jets and me and my crew were looking for the best pre-game brunch experience close to BofA. Obviously, there are a lot of choices but this place was appealing for several reasons. There is plenty of free parking right on South Blvd. You're 2.2 miles to BofA stadium. You're .5 mile walk to New Bern Lynx Station which will get you to Stonewall Lynx station close to BofA, just .7 miles to the stadium. They open at 11am and have a great menu selection for Brunch. There are a lot of Mexican options to choose from. If you get there when they open, you can enjoy a nice relaxing meal on the patio or in the 'open air' dining room. They staff is always great, the food is excellent quality and reasonable priced and you have easy access to BofA on game day. And yes, the Panthers took down the Jets 19-14! read more

For food, I got the taco salad which was amazing for a salad! Loved that it came in a taco bowl (which also tasted good). It was really easy to get a table on a Thursday night but they don't usually have a long wait. There was live music and it's nice sitting by South Blvd so you can people watch/ take in the outdoors. Southbound was a hit for me, each time that I've been! It's always a good time here when I go. I will say off the bat, that the wait, can be up to 2 hours...especially on the weekends. It's in a great location in SouthEnd, so it sees a LOT of people. However, I think the food is really great! You get a Cali-style feel and look when you eat there, from an atmosphere perspective. They have tables inside as well as a patio area outside. The drinks are also great and compliment the food! Staff is friendly, although they are moving at a fast pace with so many people. My wife enjoyed a Tijuana Caesar Salad with Chicken, and we both shared a crisp order of Chips and Salsa. Along with lots of indoor seating, SouthBound has a spacious covered patio fronting South Blvd, making it a great spot to meet friends for dinner and drinks in pleasant weather. Free parking is conveniently available in an adjacent lot, which I imagine fills up quickly during prime hours. With great food, cocktails and service, SouthBound is well worth a visit. read more

Service was also friendly and attentive. My wife and two kids shared the nachos along with a three taco plate, with plenty of food to spare. I had a three taco plate. Not the best I've had but at the specials price I'll take it lol. This is a go to spot for me so again very consistent in food and drink quality. I come to socialize but stay for the food lol. One of the worst COVID take-out experiences that I've had in Charlotte. There was no designated pick-up area or curbside option so you have to go inside and wait in a very long bar line to pick up your food. The entire reason I am ordering take-out is so I can limit my exposure to other patrons but instead I have to wait in a line where some patrons aren't wearing masks and are not socially distancing. If you are trying to be safe in COVID times I would 100% not recommend this place for either take out or sit down. Tables are not spaced appropriately, patrons do not wear masks while walking around, and the atmosphere gave me a lot of unnecessary anxiety. Regarding the food - similar to other reviews, the food is way over priced for what is offered. I ordered the chicken enchilada (see photo) and I have no idea how/why they are calling this dish an enchilada. It is extremely dry, flavorless, and not worth your money. Also, heads up, none of the entrees come with a side of rice and beans like they did before which is a bummer. On the bright side - the appetizer of queso was very tasty but was $9, so meh. Really disappointed in this place as there is a lot of potential but does not deliver by a long shot. Update: went to cookout after because the "enchilada" was so dry I couldn't finish it, 10/10 would recommend a cookout quesadilla over this mess. read more
