We ordered chicken fajita, tortilla soup and a Mexican wedge salad. I did not care for the soup, thin broth with small pieces of cheese and avocado in it and poorly flavored for my taste. We were offered a dessert in its place but we declined but nice it was offered.. My salad a basic standard. The fajita dish was enjoyed very much and portion size plentiful and tasty so my dining mate shared some with me. Prices in my opinion on the high side. She was patient and paid attention to all questions and requests made by our party of over ten females. The nachos are served with red and green salsa, as well as a questions sauce! Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, and great service! My friend and I stopped in on Taco Tuesday and it was hopping! This is the day for specials, including margs and beer. Make sure you turn into the parking garage right before the restaurant and it's easy and convenient. There is complimentary valet but that parking lot is really congested. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and a manager. We chose to sit at the bar even though we had reservations. Our bartender was great and quick! I love that they give you chips with 3 dipping options: green salsa, red salsa, and queso. Yum! I loved all 3. We started with the ceviche and it was so fresh and tasty. This has become my husband's favorite Mexican restaurant...so here we were again. We arrived around 6:15 pm...and the ambiance was more in place. I recall that the ambiance was bordering bad on our previous visit. This time, they did have some darker lighting and overhead music. However, the music volume was way too low...and all you heard were a lot of people yapping it up. We both felt they needed to drown the loud yapping noises...with more ambiant music. Again, we ordered Brisket Taquitos as appetizer to share...but this time my husband tried the Flautas, and I tried their Salmon MX. Well, the Taquitos were delicious as ever...and I tried the Flautas, and it was a bit like the Taquitos too. Now, the Salmon dish was another league of delish. This "Salmon MX" was this large cut of savory fish and shrimp over a bed of Mexican Corn. For its price point, I felt they could have included even a small portion of carbo (rice). Luckily, my husband let me have some of his rice. Even without the rice, I loved this dish. I would have loved it much more if they added a small portion of rice to this dish. I also thought the pricing of their cocktails were a bit outlandish. This time, I tried their Mango Seltzer...and it was a good choice. One last thing. I've always thought this place was gorgeously decorated. However, the seatings felt a bit off. We've been here a few times, but each and every time, we never felt completely comfortable. Not sure what it is, but the placement of the tables is a bit awkward...and/or cramped. I just can't pinpoint it, but I just didn't find the place too comfortable. Pretty, but not comfy? While my first visit was STELLAR, my second visit--where I took an out-of-town guest just a couple of weeks later--was not so great. When the waitress advised my guest and I to stick to beef options because the "chicken isn't chicken-ing," my red flag immediately went up. As my guest and I were on a tight timeframe--with La Capital being an intentional inclusion in her "Welcome to Charlotte" itinerary--we continued forward. She enjoyed her rice bowl--didn't rave about it, but appeared fine with it. I did not enjoy my tacos at all --which ironically were a repeat of my amazing first order, sans the amazing part. Muy bien... Charlotte has a lot of Mexican restaurants, ranging from hole in the wall spots on South Blvd, to upscale fare Uptown. La Capital is a perfect combination of both. I was in charge of getting some friends together, along with one person that was new to CLT. So i was looking for a place with a good vibe and live music. Lucky for me Capital has live music Thursdays. Once we entered the restaurant we had no issue getting a seat, there was a nice rounded table that fit all of us. We were greeted by the most amazing host. Caela was so welcoming and knowledgeable about the establishment that we all felt right at home. She expertly navigated our table, and answered all our questions while providing excellent recommendations. The food was also top tier, I had the brisket and Lomo tacos. I will say they were very authentic Mexican style tacos, complete with corn tortillas and packing a ton of flavor. My absolute favorite was the brisket, it was so tender and juicy, and it was the perfect portion size. The table also received chips, queso, and salsa as a free starter. Not many restaurants even provide the chips and salsa at the level of La Capital. Thats why I think it's a great blend of Marias restaurant, and it's no frills style on South Blvd, with a more polished ambiance. The vibes were excellent, there was a live music performance at the front end of the restaurant. The restaurant is very clean, and the lighting is done just right. The performer was playing the piano, and singing pop/rnb. If I had one gripe, it's that the parking lot is monopolized. There is a guy saying he has to park your car. But the parking lot is the size of tennis court. So he takes your car, parks it 10 steps away from you and collects another car. When you are ready to go, he "sprints" to your car ....he also reminded us he averages $10.00 a car. read more

This south end Mexican hotspot is full of charm and character. The ambience is inviting and makes you want to stay all day. The cocktail I had was strong AF and definitely had to be sipped. The food was well presented and was cooked really well. I thought that the enchiladas could've had much more sauce, but I loved the rice and beans and thought they were cooked perfectly. The pico de gallo was full of cilantro, just in case you think that taste like soap. The service was good, no complaints. It was a nice evening out. I'll start from the beginning on this one. I was in town visiting my sister for my birthday and while I was there a few girls and I planned to grab a celebratory bite to eat. After browsing through Yelp La Capital MX popped up and I was intrigued. Mexican food is my favorite so while my friends said they were unsure of the place based on the word of their friends, we decided to give it a go. The four of us had a reservation for a Friday night around 7pm. Now I started from the top for a reason and that's because things started to go wrong right off the bat. We arrive to be told that they decided to put our reservation outside on the patio despite it being a cold, windy evening. When I arrived after my friends and saw them shivering outside I was like hell no. I made a reservation with plenty of notice and there were other tables available inside. I have never been sent out to a patio table when I had a reservation unless I specifically requested to be. After talking to the waitress, bringing up my reservations, and pointing out the available tables inside, they let us move. This really shouldn't have happened and it did not give us a good first impression. After finally getting settled into our new table, we ordered our food and drinks. I went with the El Old Fashioned ($19) and two tacos, a fish ($6) and a veggie ($5). The drink included a whole presentation with the drink and smoke coming out of a wooden box. I have to imagine that's why it was so expensive but the drink itself was nothing to write home about. The tacos were a good size and two was plenty considering we had chips and dips to start with. Our waitress was sweet and brought me out some churros since we were celebrating my birthday. The whole table shared them and they were tasty. In the end, I landed on a three star rating because the way the dinner kicked off was really a bummer. We were talking about it the whole rest of the trip. The food was alright but nothing exciting and the cocktail price was just silly. I can see why some could really dig this spot. I'm just not one of them. read more

Why did it take me so long to discover this place?! I'm not going to lie, I always thought this place was an old steakhouse or something that went out of business. I had no idea it was a Mexican restaurant, nor such a gem!! I will say, it's higher end Mexican, so expect to spend money on a nice dinner out. But the complimentary salsa trio (red and green salsa and queso was a GREAT start). The jalapeño margaritas were extremely fresh. It's hard to find a fresh squeezed margarita these days, but this place had it! For dinner, we split the ceviche and the enchiladas, and both were excellent. The ceviche was a really generous portion of fresh seafood and avocado, and the enchilada came with rice and beans and was also delish. My ONLY qualm (and this is small) is that the service was almost too fast... we had our appetizer within 5 mins of starting on the complimentary chips, and our main entree came within 2 bites of our appetizer. And our server was very quick to clear our plates when it was questionable whether we were actually done. Nice Mexican restaurant in South End! First parking is great because they have a parking deck and will validate your ticket. Make sure to bring it up to the host stand after your meal! Let's start with the positives: customer service is excellent. Our waiter was charming and attentive without being annoying. He had our margaritas remade, when they tasted mostly of water, in an unjudgemental way. The chips were excellent: crisp and salty. And the Vampiro taco and Chorizo taco were very good. Sadly, the ceviche was bland and almost tasteless. The remade margaritas, while no longer watery, were not memorable. The other tacos we tried were just meh. The churros were hot but I'd swear the chocolate sauce was heated hersheys syrup, which I guess would be ok if you don't know mexican chocolate. I personally was a little horrified. I love how the place has such a nice ambiance it is the perfect date night spot. The food was great and perfectly seasoned. We had such a good time. We were celebrating two birthdays and her rundown of the menu options for food and drink selections was the perfect party vibe we needed. Love the complimentary Salsa and Queso trio with chips provided. The chips were light and fresh. For entrees we ordered the Salmon MX and the Sope Trio (brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken). The portion sizes for both entrees was a bit on the small side compared to others. Salmon dish was very tasty. I wasn't excited about the Sope. The flavor was just not there for me and it was a let down especially after not being able to order my original choice, one of their featured special dishes. The kitchen had run out of ingredients for the featured dish. The birthday patrons were gifted Tres Leche for dessert which was a for sure pick me up to compensate. Made a reservation here on Cinco De Mayo. The ambiance gives off an upscale Mexican Vibe. There's even valet parking out front which is great because parking here is a struggle. I love the greenery and the bar inside but I wasn't a huge fan of the atmosphere. It's a great date spot but I wouldn't necessarily pair Mexican food with Fine Dining. It was busy since it was Cinco De Mayo but we were definitely rushed with the service. Our waiter was constantly pressuring us to order drinks and food and moving us along. We were constantly be checked on and felt like a burden. I went in really wanting a trio of guac, queso and salsa but unfortunately that's not an option on the menu. I started with the Taquitos and they were really good! We did 2 pulled chicken and 2 brisket. (Brisket were better than the chicken) They also had complementary chips and a flight of dips. It was a good thing the appetizers were good because our tacos were not. I ordered two tacos on corn tortillas and they were not edible. I ended up leaving the full shrimp taco on my plate. Everything about it from the spice, to the taste was not good. If you're going for a higher-end Mexican experience maybe give it a try but there's much better Mexican spots in Charlotte. read more

I didn't even know this place opened, as it faces inward and away from the main road. My friend suggested it and made us a reservation. It was later on a weekday, although it was not busy it seemed like they didn't have a ton of staff so I would guess that they are trying to stick to mainly reservations and only add walk-ins if they have the capacity. The salsas were also very good with flavor and the chips were perfectly salted. We mainly got margaritas for beverages... Tried some different kinds, all were good and super boozy, but my favorite was the strawberry one! As far as food I went for the enchiladas. I am a sucker for a good enchilada and although I typically stick with cheese, I went for steak ones! It was an up charge for meat, but I knew would be worth it. Lots of flavor, extra cheese on top (which I love), didn't skimp on the meat and came with rice and beans. It was a great healthy portion so can't complain. We also tried a side of the corn -- don't pass it up! It was amazing! Service and wait staff were very friendly and attentive. They even gave everyone at the table a ticket for a complimentary appetizer for our next visit since a few of our meals came out as chicken not steak (which was an up charge). It wasn't a big deal, but the waiter accidentally put it in wrong and fixed it right away. Honestly they went above and beyond -- on top of the apology and free appetizer, they didn't charge us for the upgraded meat and brought us out our new dish while keeping the original, so we had leftovers for days! Definitely a Mexican cuisine type restaurant, the vibes are right. We sat on the patio one warm afternoon for a girls night. The spacing is quite tight but the concept is there. Our waitress was Destiney and she was pretty knowledgeable of the menu, and offered great recommendations! I didn't get to eat the ceviche (sad face) but my friend said it was delicious and she barely got to finish her main course. I started off with the elote corn and it was pretty good, I probably would get it again as a side. The shishito peppers with the chipotle ranch were a HIT, I may be biased because I love peppers!! My friends margaritas were not good, they got some of the more flavored ones. I just went with a classic spicy and it was ok. The free chips and salsa were good, it came with salsas and a queso. We got the elote as well, it was served in a sizzling pan but was ice cold which was very bizarre. Our meals were not good. I got a salad with chicken and the chicken was extremely dry. My friend got a bone in chicken dish as well and it was also extremely dry. My other friend got a burrito, which was huge but lacked any real flavor. On top of the food not being good, it was also very expensive for the quality. There are much better options in Southend for Mexican/Tex mex food. Will not be back here again. read more
