Another cute and tasty spot in Monarch Market in uptown Charlotte. I heard about the amazing tacos with fresh and simple ingredients and thank goodness I followed up with a visit. The tacos 1) were huge and 2) packed with flavor. My fav was the el pastor with the green sauce. The chips were Nicely seasoned and HUGE. I was craving Mexican food (I know I know, while in the South!), and stumbled across this spot near our hotel. From some of the photos online, I initially thought it was a food truck, but it's actually a brick-and-mortar location inside a food court-style venue called The Monarchy. The portions here are massive, definitely shareable! I ordered the Cali burrito and could barely finish a quarter of it. I also tried a mulita and only managed half. Everything is super filling and flavorful. The staff is friendly, and they're happy to give you extra sauces if you ask (though I'm not sure why they only include two small ones to begin with, a red habanero and a green avocado-based sauce, both tasty and a little spicy, especially the red one!). Now for the cons: inconsistency. I liked this place enough to visit twice, but both visits had their hiccups. Once, I stopped by and saw a sign saying they'd be back in 35 minutes. The next time, they had just enough barbacoa for one mulita and had run out otherwise. There was only one person running both the kitchen and the register, so things moved a bit slowly. Also, one day the barbacoa was extremely salty ("se les pasó la sal"), but the next day, my husband said it tasted much better. Despite those issues, I'd still recommend giving this place a try. Soooo good! We ordered some Tacos and a Mulita and everything was amazing. I read they have the best Al Pastor in Charlotte so I had to come and check it out - I don't claim to be an Al Pastor expert but as far as I'm concerned it's the best I've had. It was seasoned very well, charred to perfection, and super juicy. I honestly recommend just eating the Al Pastor without the tortilla because it's that good I don't want anything else taking away from it - nd that's saying a lot because their tortillas are incredible too. Other than the Al Pastor, the Mulita was the star of the show. It's like a street taco turned into a quesadilla and it was fantastic. So cheesy and yummy and I'll be back very soon to get another. Overall highly recommend. You can tell they're skilled chefs and care about the quality of their food a lot. read more

One of the more delicious Mulitas I've eaten was from this food truck. Posted at a Hispanic event in Charlotte, it was a nice change of pace from other traditional Mexican trucks. The food came out fairly quick and had a solid order system in place. The Mulita was full of flavor with a lot of meat and cheese. The guac was a nice touch to balance out the richness of the meat. Bland, tasteless, and am unsure what I even got. Had the al pastor and barbacoa. The barbacoa was alright and the al pastor just looked black with both having no flavor. Do I love their tacos? Yes! The Black Al Pastor is the best taco filling I've ever had. Not to take away from any other protein options on the menu, it's all delicious. This is not your average food truck and this is not your normal Charlotte taco!!! I hate that I didn't try it sooner - beautiful and fresh flavors that transport you out of NC. Al pastor taco and the barbacoa taco were excellent. Loved the green sauce that comes with it. I have never had a more perfect onion on a taco? Wow! The staff is friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. Each menu item is filled... they don't skimp out on filling up the tortillas. All of the meat was flavorful - I tried the chicken, the steak and the black Al pastor. The hot sauce was excellent as well. I've been to a lot of food trucks and I will be a repeating customer here. I saw them recently in camp north end after leaving the vintage pop up and only planned to take a quick look at the menu but once seeing their vegetarian options, I decided to try the mushroom taco. The line was getting pretty busy and you could smell the goodness they were cooking up. The taco was amazing and I immediately regretted not getting more, so I checked their schedule and showed up the following day for the mushroom mulita(cheese, guacamole, onion, cilantro between two corn tortillas)....amazing! I don't know what they're seasoning the mushrooms with to make them so crispy and flavorful but I am definitely a fan. read more

El Veneno is always popping up weekly around the city at different breweries. You can always look at their schedule weekly. (Check out their IG: el.veneno.clt) The mulitas are my absolute favorite!! I can't decide between asada or barbacoa because both meats are prepared well and have so much flavor. They offer tacos, tortas and weekly specials. All of the food here has so much flavor and you can't go wrong any menu item. I am now addicted and come here weekly. Very fresh, authentic and yummy food. Service is always quick and friendly. SO glad I caught el veneno at the Latinx holiday market. Have had this food truck on my list to try as soon as I moved to Charlotte. I've missed my al pastor tacos from Mexico and have been searching for the next best thing. I have high expectations, and these tacos did not disappoint! Super flavorful and the perfect balance with all the pineapple slices on top! My cousin ordered the barbacoa taco and it too did not disappoint. The salsa was pretty mild, but can't hate because I love green salsa. The price is definitely on the higher end, but it's definitely worth it. The flavor is *chefs kiss*. If you can catch them, go! Staff are always nice and educated about the food and give very good advice about what to get. This food truck travels a lot and will have you all over Charlotte which is great if you want to explore the Charlotte area. If you don't feel like travel it's okay because they have set schedules with some brewery's. I have been following this food truck on Instagram since I moved to CLT last year and I finally got the chance to try it last weekend. I had 4 tacos and they were delicious! The price was a little steep after tipping but that's ok because I love supporting small businesses. The only con I will say was the service. The guy that was taking orders was not polite at all. We moved here from San Diego and we have struggled to find Mexican food that has the same impact as the Mexican food from Southern California and Tijuana. This is the first place that really hit the spot! We tried it one night and had to find out where they were the next day and got lunch and got a bunch of food to go to warm up for dinner. The torta is by far the best thing on the menu. It's so delicious, filled to the brim with toppings, the meat is tender and the bread is perfect with everything.
