Staff was friendly and welcoming to us as first timers. We got the bell rung for each of us and a complimentary keychain! Accommodating to having kids, by splitting up 1 meal into separate containers. Fast service Clear menu Free guacamole & gum for everyone. Get the Slushie! Long history of business. A local spot for regulars and visitors. *located in the basement food shops of Wells Fargo Businesses Building & connected to public parking garage. Thanks for a great lunch with good portion sizes!

I cannot recommend Johnny Burrito enough! It was my first time going, and I was welcomed with a free newcomer bottle opener. This was the best burrito I've ever had. Highly recommend the firecracker chicken. Also loved the various sauce/salsa options, and free queso on any main entree! Do not be scared of the long line, it moves fast! A++++!

This place has been on my bucket list since forever and I've finally made it here!! We came right before opening and there was already a line so I knew it had to be good. For new comers, they ask if this is your first time and if so, you get a bottle opener keychain and a spiel on how to order. They're super patient for your first time so don't be intimidated. You can add anything onto your burrito at no extra costs -- yes, even guac!!! There's a couple of salsas that you can ask to get at the end to top off your burrito and you can't go wrong with any of the options. The burrito was super filling, but didn't feel heavy, flavorful, and the service was also top notch. You can tell that they truly care about their customers. Would highly recommend you check this place out as it's definitely a Charlotte staple, you won't be disappointed!

Johnny Burrito is an uptown local staple! The decor is filled with local news, old signs, etc. I see something I haven't seen before every time I go. The line is long at lunch hours but it goes by pretty quickly. If you're in a rush, go right when they open or a bit before they close. You'll be greeted here and if you're a first timer, you'll get a walk through of ordering and a bottle opener key chain. All employees I've interacted with are friendly and efficient. Johnny is on the cashier often, and you'll be charmed by his character! There are themed candy days like Fireball Friday and Twizzler Tuesday, where you'll be handed this when ordering. My go to is the regular burrito with firecracker chicken. Don't forget to add in queso and guac - included in your burrito price. I also ask for a side of Johnny's Ranch (chipotle ranch) and Diablo sauce (hot sauce) to put on my burrito every couple of bites. I rarely leave without a "house red" (cherry sundrop) slush. You won't be hungry after this meal and if you haven't visited - go now!

I was recommended this place by a coworker since I was visiting from out of town. Great food and the staff takes the time to explain their process to "rookies" while you wait in line. Fun, small environment in the store, definitely can't sit down and eat in the store during lunch but there is plenty of seating on the floor above or in the plaza on Tryon St.

In town for work so folks in the office brought me here. Tuesday is tamale day so had to try it. Great balance of filling and masa, lovely flavors, nice and moist. You can get all of the usual burrito fillings thrown on top at no cost but I opted for simple. The Diablo sauce was as hot as I was told it would be so dropped it on along with the spicy red salsa. You get a bottle opener if it's your first time so got a local Sun Drop to break it in. Not heavy but definitely filling. Get there early as the line gets long fast. Johnny treats every customer like a friend. Great local spot that's been around for 20 years and will certainly be around for 20 more.

Big burrito with seasoned ground beef, rice, beans, queso, guac, sour cream, pico, lettuce, tomato, onion, shredded cheese and hot sauce.!

So anytime the line is out the door with 60 people in it my curiosity is peeked.. usually means a must try. In this case it absolutely does.. it was such a good burrito! It tasted amazing! You pay for the burrito (cash was like 15 bucks) and build it however you want. Guac was not extra, sour cream was not extra, queso was not extra.. the ingredients were fresh and there was so much to pick from. The inside of the restaurant is really cool with lots of interesting and funny things on the wall.. I was asked if I was new and because I was, got a free keychain and jolly rancher.. lol.. guy running the place was genuinely happy and easy to order from. The seasoned ground beef had fantastic flavor and they are very generous with the portions. It takes two hands to eat it and make sure you listen when they say to peel the foil down as you go.. it made everything stay together down to the last bite. The hottest sauce has some kick but it won't kill you.. all in all, every time I'm in Charlotte I will be stopping in.!

Johnny Burrito has been an uptown staple for years. I've been coming here for the last 6 years and it never disappoints. The food is fresh, the meat is flavored, the portions are generous and the customer service is outstanding. The place is a little hidden, you have to go downstairs in the Wells Fargo building to find it. It's also only open Monday through Friday for lunch. The trip to Johnny Burrito is worth it so add it to your bucket list for Charlotte!

Been coming here for almost 20 years. Incredibly fast. Very friendly. And most important of all, large portions of meat for the burritos.

But I have to start with a small heartbreak: my beloved puffy taco is gone. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where the puffy taco was created, and it's deeply nostalgic for me. It's not a sope, not a tostada--it's a true puffy taco, light, airy, and unlike anything else. For a long time, Superica made one that came remarkably close to what I grew up with. Unfortunately, after changes in leadership and kitchen management, it quietly disappeared from the menu. That was a real disappointment. That said, I still come back--because the food here is consistently good. The crispy tacos with picadillo are my current favorite. Picadillo (P-I-C-A-D-I-L-L-O) is a traditional Latin dish with many regional variations, and this version reminds me of the one my grandmother used to make in San Antonio. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and the menu offers something for everyone--from enchiladas and chile rellenos to steaks and fresh tableside guacamole. Speaking of guacamole, I'm a purist. I like it simple: avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, garlic--chunky and clean. Superica delivers on that. The chips and salsa are bottomless, the salsa has great depth of flavor, and for those who like heat, they offer a tiny dropper of hot sauce that is smoky, bold, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. The ginger margarita is another standout. It comes with a generous piece of crystallized ginger and has a bright, balanced flavor that makes it easy to order a second one. And if you have room for dessert, do not skip the tres leches cake--rich, decadent, and a perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciate the little touches here: * Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff * A lively bar area that's great for happy hour * A beautiful outdoor patio that makes al fresco dining feel special * And a fun tradition of sending you home with a packaged Texas praline This South End location is my personal favorite. It feels more adult and relaxed, while the Strawberry Hill location tends to be more family-heavy. Both are good, but the vibe here suits me better. Yes, prices have crept up a bit--as they have everywhere--but the quality, consistency, and atmosphere keep me coming back. And as someone who travels frequently for work across multiple states, I appreciate that Superica maintains a dependable standard wherever I encounter it. Bottom line: Even without the puffy taco, Superica remains one of my favorite Tex-Mex spots in Charlotte. Come hungry, bring friends, share plates--and as always, travel safe and eat well.

I visited with a friend on Cinco de Mayo, so as you can imagine, the scene was absolutely chaotic. The wait was a staggering hour and a half, but Superica handles crowds like a pro. They have an outdoor bar and a grill setup serving: * A limited taco menu * Chips and Queso This was a total game-changer. It's a genius move that keeps the "hangry" at bay while you soak up the South End atmosphere. Once we finally scored two seats at the bar, the service remained impressively steady despite the holiday madness. * The Vibe: 10/10. The restaurant is beautiful and definitely fits the trendy Charlotte mold. * The Food: To be honest, I wasn't blown away. Given the hype and the stunning decor, my expectations were sky-high. The flavors were "decent" and felt like a solid performance, but they didn't quite hit that "must-return" level of deliciousness. * Portion Sizes: Huge! I couldn't finish my meal in one sitting. Here's the interesting part: The food actually tasted better the next day. It traveled well and the flavors seemed to settle in overnight. If you can't finish your plate, definitely take it home. Is it worth the South End gas and the hour-plus wait? For me, I'll probably stick to my "old faithful" spot up in the University area for my routine taco fix. However, I'm willing to give Superica the benefit of the doubt. It's hard for any kitchen to be at its absolute peak on Cinco de Mayo. If I find myself back in the neighborhood on a quieter Tuesday, I'd give it another shot just to see if the food can live up to that gorgeous interior.

At the risk of sounding like an overwrought Midwestern foodie, we thought the portions were small, the prices were high, the food was just alright, the rice and beans presentation was silly, and the margaritas were more show than go. And chips and salsa, priced at over $5 for a serving, seemed a bit over the top since most Mexican restaurants offer that free. An example of the nouvelle cuisine: they have fancy butternut squash and sweet potato tacos, but no real tacos made like mamá or mami used to prepare.
