As you could imagine by the name and the fact they opened in a former Naval Air Station they go heavy on the plane theme. The best time to visit is during the summer or at least nicer weather to fully enjoy their outside space. Arguably the best addition since their opening has been their food program. This time though my wife got their Italian on Focaccia and I got one of their Chicken Bacon Ceasar sandwiches. Instead of typical bread it used a folded pizza dough and both our dishes tasted phenomenal. If you visit trying their food is a must, do not skip on it! Beer wise today we sampled four beers new to us. I got Wings their NEIPA & Vuelo Nocturno Mexican Lager while my wife got their Plane Beer American Lager and the Krösswind Kölsch. We enjoyed all four of them and we were glad to have found so many on tap we had yet to try! Flight Deck may not be an immediate thought when you think of Maine Breweries but they deserve recognition. Between the two of us, we ordered two appetizers, two entrées, and three beverages. Appetizers We started with the Boom Boom Shrimp and the potato skins. The Boom Boom Shrimp was decent--pleasantly sweet with a mild hint of spice--but ultimately unremarkable. The potato skins, however, were excellent and easily the standout item of the meal. They were well prepared, flavorful, and genuinely enjoyable. In fact, they may be my favorite item on the menu. It's also worth noting that potato skins seem surprisingly rare on menus these days, which made them feel like a bit of a novelty. If we were to return, the potato skins would likely be the primary reason. Drinks My wife ordered a strawberry lemonade, which was fine but nothing memorable. I had a Diet Coke and a strawberry daiquiri. The Diet Coke was exactly what you'd expect. The strawberry daiquiri, however, was a disappointment. The portion size was shockingly small--more like a sampler than a full cocktail--despite being priced comparably to daiquiris at similar chain restaurants. At places like Applebee's, you typically receive a generously sized drink served in a goblet or hurricane glass. Here, it came in a small mug that felt disproportionate to the price. That's a choice I wouldn't make again. Entrées For our main courses, my wife ordered the teriyaki chicken with a side of clam chowder, both of which she enjoyed. Unfortunately, my entrée--the baked haddock--was where the meal truly fell apart. This was, without exaggeration, the worst baked haddock I have ever been served. The fish had virtually no flavor beyond severely burnt breadcrumbs. The topping was sparse, lacked butter or seasoning, and tasted as though it had been cooked at far too high a temperature. The result was a dry, rubbery texture that made the dish genuinely inedible. At nearly $20, it felt like a complete waste and significantly detracted from the overall dining experience. Overall Impression While there were a few bright spots--most notably the potato skins--the baked haddock left such a negative impression that it seriously impacts my likelihood of returning. If we do come back at some point, I'll be sticking to the potato skins.
