I thought of this Mountain Mike's Pizza lunch buffet that runs Mon through Friday 11 am till 2 pm. You wanna get here early when the fresh pizzas are coming out. The price is $11 with no drink and $12.50 with a soda. That's not a bad upcharge for the soda, compared to what other places charge. We got there a little after 11 am and I just told the cashier 5 lunch buffets with drinks and paid with my card. We got a good table, cause I think you might not get a seat if you get here in the middle of the lunch rush, especially with a party of five. The pizzas were already out and there were a good variety of choices. I didn't know exactly what each one was, but I could spot my fave combo pizzas and a friend saw they had some with pineapples on it and of course the pepperoni for the less adventerous. All the pizzas had a good amount of toppings so we were all pleasantly surprised, not like some pizza buffets where it's just the cheap pizzas that get put out. They even had a nice salad bar that came with the lunch, but me ... I'm saving tummy space for pizza! We all thought this pizza buffet was well worth it and had all kinds of choices, plus the quality was up there with some of the best, non buffet pizzas.

It'd be great to score a place 3 minutes from my house where I could reliably go when the burger pangs hit. It would also be nice to support local business. I was looking for a classic burger date with the missus. Two classic cheeseburgers, shakes, and a fry to share. Sad state of society when that comes out to $50, but I'm never one to shy away from treating myself. I just hoped the experience was worth the pretty penny (R.I.P. penny, we will miss you). Mixed review. In order of escalating chaos. The malt shakes were an absolute hit! We got one vanilla and one chocolate. Both were so flavorful with the perfect consistency that melted into a delicious drinkable shake as the meal went on. The burger was decent and they get credit for effort. Seemed they packed their patties and threw them on the griddle, no smash-burger technique here. Kind of puzzling as the crust and maillard is what makes burgers delicious in my opinion. This had none of that. Just loose beefy flavor with a thousand islandy sauce. Tasted good but not worth the cost of admission. Lastly, the fries. Oh boy, the fries. They came out hot, and the first few bites were okay, but as they cooled down it seemed they had been overcooked or bathed in week-old fry oil. They were acrid and ashtray tasting. Left an awful taste in my mouth, even as I was walking back to my car. There was a lot of potential here, but to reach 4 stars it would have to be a place I'd think to re-visit. I am sadly headed back to In-N-Out, or even Barney's.

Had a wonderful experience at my first time eating at Lucy's Taco Shop! I ate in their spotless…read moredining area (the restroom was immaculate too). They have a huge menu on display. There are 27 combo plates that include rice and refried beans. Most are bargain priced at $14.25 (only three were $17 for shrimp). I had a burrito bowl with carnitas. It was very tasty with a large portion of pork, pico de gallo, rice, refried beans, guacamole and sour cream topped with shredded lettuce and cheese. It was a lot to eat for $13. Portions are substantial and most patrons left with a box to take the remainder of their meals home. They have long hours from 7 am to 11 pm seven days a week. I noticed that they have an extensive breakfast menu too. Delivery of the food was very fast both for the dining in and drive-thru customers. One thing to note about their location. They're in the former Jack in the Box building on the corner of Cheryl Lane and Highway 99 across from the vacant Ray's Food Place in Phoenix. If you're driving from the south on Highway 99 you cannot cross the median to drive into the restaurant. You need to turn left at the light into the Ray's parking lot (or drive straight at the light into Ray's if coming from I-5), turn right and cross Cheryl Lane to get into their parking area or turn into the drive-thru for Lucy's Taco Shop. Leaving is back through the parking area to Cheryl Lane. Phoenix has a confusing interchange to get onto I-5. When you're leaving. drive past the Chevron station to turn left by the former Rite Aid to head towards the freeway entrances. Join Highway 99 in either direction from the light coming out of Ray's parking lot. It's worth the driving logistics the first time to get to Lucy's Taco Shop to support this family owned business. I know it won't be the last time I eat there!
