I was really excited to try the cantina, as our area doesn't have one and this was close by to where we were staying. Walking in, I was underwhelmed. The restaurant looked a little messy. The service was friendly. I'm not sure if the amount they poured me was more than usual or if that is the normal pour, but the amount they added was too much for a small frozen Baja blast. Also, the liquor was room temperature so it made half of the freezy melt. Nachos were great.

OLD TOWN, Alexandria, Va. - Those SoCal transplants who will sniff from time to time that one can't find good, authentic Mexican food around the DMV? I can only assume they've never heard of Taco Bell Cantina. Until now. The missus and I, when in Old Town Alexandria, had a running joke of 'someday, we should stop at the Taco Bell Cantina.' Saturday, mid-afternoon, the dream became real. Upon Entering: Plenty of seating. No waiting to use the digital ordering screen. Staff is friendly. (Pro tip: need to use the restroom? You need a five-digit passcode). Upside: We had booze at a Taco Bell, instead of having booze and then going to a Taco Bell. The $9 margarita-flavored slushie supposedly came with a shot of tequila in it. And when we carried around the remains of our slushie in Old Town afterward, 5-0 was none the wiser. Entertainment: A couple with an infant, all dressed in Taco Bell sauce packet onesies came in and got photos taken while we ate. Staff even joined in on the photos. I've never seen anyone at Fiola or Moon Rabbit getting their photos taken while in restaurant-themed costumes. Advantage, Taco Bell. Food: I mean, it's Taco Bell. The Frank's RedHot (™) Diablo Crispy Chicken Soft Taco is surprisingly spicy, as they put a lot of RedHot (™) on that puppy. The Nacho Cheese Doritos (™) Locos Taco Supreme is basically a Supreme Taco in a Dorito-flavored taco shell. The missus said she wished it was Cool Ranch rather than regular Doritos flavored. Food scientists, get on that. Overall, it was a Taco Bell experience. A perfectly 3.33-star time. We've joked for years about going to Taco Bell Cantina. Maybe in a couple years we'll return.

This location is definitely a step up from the normal Taco Bell! Not wanting to spend a lot on dinner or visiting a fancy eatery I came across this Taco Bell. I must admit, every now and then I get a craving to " run to the border." At this location, you immediately notice that it is not your typical Taco Bell as soon as you step inside the place. It is clean and the service is fast and friendly. I tried a Disha Hot Taco (new item) and and bean burrito. Both were well prepared, fresh, hot and tasty. The sauce on the Disha Hot Taco was insatiable and satisfies those with spicy taste buds for sure. Everything was crunchy, crispy and fresh....down to the veggies on my tacos. I was quite impressed being that it has been a while since I have been to Taco Bell Not to mention, this is the first Taco Bell that I have visited that also has beer on tap and cocktails. No complaints here...lol. There is also eating inside and outside overlooking the sidewalk for you to people watch while you eat. The vibe and dining area is very clean as well....which is one my pet-peeves. My entire meal and beverage came to about $10.00.... And anyone that has been in the old town Alexandria area before for lunch or dinner...... you know this is a steal. More like decent eats, on the cheap or perfect for someone looking for something fast-casual and quick in this busy-touristy section of historic Alexandria, VA. All good in my book and I recommend this location....for a quick eating fix and libation. :)

Took 20 mins to get my order, then I ordered cinnamon twists which are usually pretty good, but after I tasted them, they tasted like bitter cardboard that were actually uneatable. Don't come here, this is really bad for the Cantina that I was expecting

This was my 3rd visit to a Taco Bell Cantina but first to this location. It was the first time I ordered an alcoholic beverage - which is the main difference at a "Cantina." I ordered the frozen margarita with tequila - because you get a choice of alcohol after picking the frozen flavor. For the drink specifically the alcohol was all at the bottom and was difficult to mix. My first sip was like sipping from a shot of straight tequila. I also ordered some spicy potato soft tacos which came out fresh, warm, and tasted like normal. You order at the kiosk, get your drink at the register there (alcoholic or not), and get your food at a different counter. There was a decent amount of seating both inside and outside though at 9 pm on Sunday night a lot of the tables needed to be cleaned. Overall, a decent experience from a Taco Bell.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY ITS NEWNESS. This is not the place to go on an afternoon. Although the taco bell food was good, the service was terrible. The place was understaffed and probably untrained too since the workers looked lost. I ordered 2 tacos and it took at least 15 minutes...disappointing! There weren't much customers either. I ordered the food through the kiosk, which was convenient. However, I was hoping to get my soda cup soon since I was very thirsty. I tried to be patient, but after 10 minutes, I had to get up and ask them for a cup. Never again.

Glorious. This Taco Bell (it's a Taco Bell Cantina) never disappoints! It's clean, stuff is made super fresh, and they serve beer and some mixed/frozen drinks. Open late, polite staff, 5 stars all around. Need more of these.

This is a Taco Bell Cantina. It's a little confusing since all the ordering is down via the app or these giant iPad like kiosk screens. Even stranger you pick up your food on one end and then wait for your drink (both alcoholic and non alcoholic) and the register area. This causes a lot of confusion especially because someone is not usually at the register area and doesn't have the drink(s) ready. Lastly if you're ordering from the app DON'T select Drive Thru. There is no Drive Thru here and that will prevent your order from being made. The quality of the food is good typically well assembled. The staff is pretty decent depending on what time of the day you go. Lastly there's only street parking which is next to impossible in old town Alexandria on a busy day. However if you're going on a weekday night it's easy to park and run in to grab your order. I deducted one star because the Taco Bell app should not have the option for Drive Thru if there isn't one.

My friend chose Don Taco because it's one of his favorite spots, and he kept raving about how great the tacos were. And because really, you can't go wrong with chips, salsa, and drinks for a quick happy hour. The salsa which is not pictured had a great smoky kick, the tacos were very flavorful, fresh and hot. The host and waitress were very sweet, kind and attentive. The atmosphere was pretty cool, nothing to complain about. A lot of space, we sat upstairs which I enjoyed. We had the entire upstairs area to ourselves, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The restaurant was clean, and I loved the mini fans placed throughout the space--perfect if you're feeling a little too warm or have enjoyed a few drinks! As for the service, it was a bit hit-or-miss. The young lady who took our orders was pleasant, but it took quite a while for drinks to come out. There were also several missing items from people's orders, which caused some frustration since those items had been ordered well in advance. Now, onto the food--the real star of the experience! Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals and had great things to say. I ordered a salmon taco, which I actually saved and ate the next day for lunch, and it was still delicious. The queso, however, wasn't a favorite among our group. On the other hand, the chips and salsa were a hit. The mocktails were excellent, and everyone seemed to enjoy their cocktails as well. Despite a few service hiccups, the food, drinks, and atmosphere made for a great experience. I would definitely visit again.

The accompanying salsa was tasty. We also liked the queso dip that we ordered as a side. JP ordered the attractively presented breakfast burrito and found it to be very good. The rest of us ordered the ground beef enchiladas. They come with Mexican rice and refried black beans. I thought the enchiladas were good but really needed substantially more cheese and red sauce because they were kinda dry. But there was a question about the preparation of the margaritas. JP requested his first margarita be agave free (i.e. not sweet). It turned out great. But when JP and our friend ordered another round, the second round was yellowish orange instead of green, and they were sweet. Our server insisted the margaritas were made the same way the second time. She did agree to have them re-made, but the remade ones were identical to the ones that we sent back. Since I don't drink margaritas and don't have a vested interest in that aspect of Tacos and Tequila, I'd like to come back to further explore their menu.

I think my turn-off was due to my experiences at most fast-casual Mexican restaurants, which I will not name here, Burritos simply miss the mark and leave a lot to be desired on flavor and most importantly the portions Oftentimes you are left with a big fat "dough-like" ball filled with rice and beans...barely any meat...and air pockets of sour cream/sauce. I mean who wants to bite into a burrito to only find an empty pocket of guac, sour cream, rice or a mound of rolled tortilla!? Well, this was not the case with District Taco. The burrito I had was on point! Who knew?....Well, now I do! I am talking from the meat proportions to the fillers of rice, beans, guac, salsa and all components. It had the perfect balance of ERRYTHANG!! I tried the Burrito Mojado. The entire buritto was stacked and topped with this amazing sauce.... Salsa de Chile...that made this burrito "a hit" for me. Talk about leaving stuffed and completely satisfied....i sure was!! In all great food and the customer service was friendly-excellent. 4.5 Stars in my book! We were greeted and seated immediately when we arrived. There were maybe 3 or 4 tables total occupied during our visit so not too busy on a Sunday afternoon. There is outdoor seating as well. Our server, who was very friendly, hyped the premium margarita so we gave in and said yes. We also tried the passionfruit margarita. The premium was strong but that's probably what you're going for anyway The passionfruit margarita was delicious but not strong at all. We tried the chips and dip and the Platanos Fritos (plantains with sour cream) to start. Chips were fresh and hot. Salsa was a bit creamy. Never had it like this before but the taste was pretty good. Plantains were perfect! While we didn't order the Guac ( Guacamole Molcajete) , it was brought to our table. We found it to be on the bland side with no hints of cilantro, onion, lime or salt. We saw a few bits of tomato but it tasted just like a plain smashed avocado. Not something we would order again. We decided to try all the street tacos except the vegetarian so we could taste everything. Steak, chicken, fish, shrimp, ground beef, pork (al pastor), carnitas. We also got the 3 street taco platter that came with the Mexican rice and beans. We found the shrimp and fish tacos to be lacking in the quantity of meat. But they were flavorful. The chicken, while plentiful, was dry even with the sauce. The steak, al pastor and carnitas were all packed with meat and delicious but both our Al Pastor tacos were missing the pineapple. The ground beef was my personal favorite but was very greasy. The Mexican rice and pinto beans....Both were just ok. Overall, food was ok we were expecting a bit more flavor. Service was great. That said, a few things really missed the mark. The portion sizes felt small, especially for the price. The salsa was disappointing...it wasn't really salsa at all, more like the leftover juice from pico de gallo after you've eaten the actual vegetables. We even ordered extra salsa thinking maybe they had just gotten to the bottom of the batch, but alas that was just their take on it. Since chips and salsa are one of my favorite parts of Tex-Mex, that was a letdown. The beans were also watery and didn't resemble refried beans as the menu described, more like pinto beans straight from the can with liquid. On the positive side, the patio was lovely and redeemed the experience. Sitting outside on King Street made for a really nice atmosphere on a beautiful day. Overall, Cuates has tasty entrees and a great location, but with small portions and underwhelming sides, I'm not sure it's a spot we'd rush back to.
