I'll be nice and go 4 stars. The wife didn't care for her Shrimp Taco Supreme ($5.25), light on shrimp and flavor for her...and the empanadas were just ok for both of us, but not bad for $2 each. My crispy lunch taco special for five dollars along with a can of soda (or a water) was a good deal and I got to try both the beef and chicken. Both were ground like you would normally get ground beef, so only the lighter color distinguish the two. The flavor was very much the same, good but not excellent. I think it very much tasted like the original, so it's a bit of nostalgia affecting my inflated score. On this day, the restaurant was very smoky and it did not add to the experience, it actually took away a bit. So hopefully they get the ventilation system fixed so we can come back next time in a smoke-free environment. I have a Local Flavor coupon for $20 so I look forward to trying a burrito, fajita, or enchiladas. All sound good! read more

I had to create an account because it was so bad. So, the staff was friendly and nice, no big deal - sweet lady. I had a taco salad which was mostly lettuce and the lettuce was just soggy. My wife had a bean and cheese enchilada, which was way way too small of a portion for the price. It was also just bland and the cheese was barely even melted. The jalapeño poppers were good, but that's easy - it's just frozen pub fryer food. The root beer was excellent, but it Stewarts in a bottle, not hard to get wrong. Even the hot sauce was watered down. What a disappointment. From now on, I'll have to eat Mexican at a Mexican place with Mexican cooks I guess. The day I moved to Scranton, I was pleased to see a taco place was two blocks away. Having lived in San Diego where there is a taco stand every few blocks, I was pleased. Everyday I'd see the bright yellow sign inviting me in for Mexican food. Ugh. That sign is false advertising. The menu showed the familiar names of Mexican food, but what they delivered was NOT Mexican food. I realize Scranton is 1500 miles from Mexico (SD is about 10), but c'mon! Why even open a restaurant if you don't have a clue about the cuisine you claim to prepare. This stuff doesn't even raise to the level of Tex/Mex. I intended to eat lunch today at the Mediterranean restaurant across the street but unfortunately they were closed. I saw Taco Bandido and figured I'd give it a try. I didn't expect much but hey, I'm adventurous. The guy at the counter was very friendly as was the lady who brought my food out. I call it like it is. This is fast food similar to Taco Bell. On top of that, it's Tex-Mex, not traditional Mexican. Quite frankly, the food wasn't very good but it was better than a Taco Bell; but not by much. I ended up getting a burrito and a taco. The meat was flavorless and almost like a paste. The sauces were pretty good but somewhat thin. I guess if you're into fast food, you could find worse. Not my thing though. I've loved Taco Bandido since college when they were on Mulberry St in Scranton. I have followed the Bandido everywhere over the years.I really like their beef tacos & cheese fries. I actually purchased one of the restaurant deals....get 20 dollars worth of food for 10 dollars online for Taco Bandido. The problem was that when I went to order with the restaurant deal...they told me that it was having a coupon & I would have to pay $1.99 for the tacos instead of the $1.25. So basically, I patronized the business I have loved rfor over 30 years only to have them slap me the face for trying to save a little bit online. BY the time I finished my order...that restaurant deal was NOT a deal...it cost me more than if I didn;t have the deal & ajust paid the $1.25 per taco. First, let me say, it was over 30 years since the last time we ate here, in fact, they were still at their original location on Mulberry Street. We finally got a chance to have lunch yesterday at their present location and we weren't disappointed!!! I mentioned to Melissa, now a co-owner with her brother Michael, that we used to go at least twice per week when we lived in Scranton many years ago...she replied that we wouldn't be disappointed, and she was correct!!!! My wife had steak tacos which she enjoyed immensely, stuffed with grilled steak, lettuce, tomato and onions and whatever sauce you want in it. I had the Bandido Dog which was fantastic!!!! A tasty grilled beef frank stuffed into a soft tortilla shell and filled with an awesome chili, cheese and onions...it was gooey, warm and tasty. I even took some of the fresh jalapeños that my wife couldn't eat, too hot for her, and shoved them into the tortilla and it really cranked up the flavor. I'm sure if you asked, they would put jalapeños into whatever you ordered!!! It was a great lunch and it was nice to speak with Melissa and Michael about their Dad and just Scranton in general. For semi "fast food" this place is great! I ordered the beef chimichanga while my daughter had a simple bean burrito with added rice and we split the delicious queso- all quite yummy. The portion size is large enough for one to be morethan satisfied and prices are relatively inexpensive- we had the above mentioned meal with 2 drinks for $17 and change. It's far from authentic Mexican food, but its "OK" along the lines of Taco Bell(but far more expensive). My kids like it and I got their menu one evening to call an order in because it says to call for delivery, just to find out that delivery is only for lunch and to downtown businesses ONLY.
