I was in the mood for Mexican and stopped at this restaurant. I called in my order of the shrimp fajitas. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked into a kitchen like restaurant. The lady took my name and my food was ready. I paid and left. When I ate the food was very tasty. It was very flavorful. My only wish was that there were flour tortillas instead of corn. My last review was 4 stars and I'm upping it to 5 stars. I had two al pastor tacos and one chorizo taco with a side of beans (they use pinto, not black beans). Their tacos are small but they're only $1.00 per taco. That price is insane and the tacos are fantastic. I wasn't sure what to expect with the beans but they were some of the best I've ever tasted. They are left whole and not mashed up. They were flavorful and so delicious. They are currently only offering take-out but there is a big parking lot just a quarter mile south. read more

Stopped by this small restaurant in Scranton for a snack. The lady made me some chicken empanadas and they were delicious. They have lots of other items on the menu. I haven't tried the rest of the food on the menu but enjoyed the empanadas. Service was excellent. You can watch some soccer while you eat your food. read more

Okay, so you know how if a restaurant is in a sketchy part of town, and the outside looks kind of shady, you usually avoid it? I'm glad I went inside. BEST MEXICAN FOOD EVER I'm not joking. Place is 100x nicer inside than outside. Food is made in front of you and the waiter/ cook are super amazing & friendly. I got a chicken burrito with the red sauce and Jesus Christ on a cracker it sent me into another galaxy. It danced a tango with every single taste bud, and not a single one was left unhappy. The chicken was super juicy and flavorful, the rice was perfectly seasoned and cooked, lettuce and cheese fresh, and the tortilla was soft and beautiful. The guac is also amazing. The perfect amount of lime and garlic, and they leave the pit in the bowl. I'm assuming they do this to show you it's fresh even though they make it in front of you. Seriously, go in! The absolute best authentic Mexican food in the area. As other reviews have stated, it doesn't seem like you're in the right place when you first arrive. The outside is very drab and underwhelming, as is the interior. The tables are tiny and a mish-mash of heights. A long lunch counter with a cooktop at the end runs the length of the left wall 1950s style. The menus are simple flyers that you would typically see offered for take out. Don't let this fool you, its the real deal. Brought a bottle of decent tequila with us since it is BYOB and upon seating us, they offered us margaritas. We weren't sure how this was going to work but we ordered a round and they took my bottle. Margaritas came back after being blended, which I typically dislike, but they were incredible! All of the food is legit. Nothing frozen or mass produced. The tacos were all great (the al pastor was my favorite), the guacamole was made to order and included the pit, the green salsa was HOT, the tamales were fresh and hand made. No complaints from anyone in our party. Prices were incredibly low, $1 tacos all day every day! Can't go wrong. Defintely coming back again. read more

I am highly impressed! Met up with some other yelpers in the area and decided to give this hole in the wall a try. Damn. What a fabuloso mexican eatery. Not much to look at when you walk in. Looks like a typical diner. Seats along the "bar" per say. Tables along the other side. Bathrooms usually say a lot about a place. It was decorated pretty cute. Looked clean. What was odd though, there were two faucets. One hot and one cold. Usually one faucet with a hot and cold nozzles. The menu is simple. I chose two soft tacos. One with Mexican sausage and one with steak. Oh deliciousness. Nice touch with cilantro. When I ordered, I asked for guacamole. Well, they interpreted that as the appetizer. It's a large portion. Even comes with the pit. Also comes with a touch of cilantro. Alcohol is NOT served here so bring your own! Bring a bottle of tequila and they whip up the best frozen margaritas. They provide the mix and triple sec. Perfect consistency. I believe there's a fee of like $2.00 to make and serve them? P.S. they charge $2.00 for a glass of water (and it's not bottled). read more

Im always on a hunt for the best tacos and spanish food around, any time I'm in a new area. This are the best Ive had so far around Scranton. We had the steak fajita platter that came with steak, yellow rice, frijoles liquado, and tortillas. I also tried the chicken flautas and a beef empanada with an order of churros for dessert. Everything was great, very well seasoned. The red hot sauce is the best. And the churros were filled with dulce de leche. I will be back again. read more

Oftentimes food or restaurants described as "authentic" Mexican food or "divey" is a euphemism for bad, dirty food. To be sure this is not a Tex-Mex restaurant, it is real Mexican food, just done poorly and cheaply. I'd like to dispel the myth that authentic Mexican food is cheap and dirty unfortunately this restaurant really makes that hard. Bottom line. Legitimately the smallest tacos I've ever paid for.) I got steak tacos since they only let you choose one meat. It tasted like Steakums from the store straight out of the package. But even more bland. It had zero flavor. Just tasted like grease. Not even salty grease. I would not eat here ever again (and I spent over thirty dollars on food). It just wasn't my cup of tea. A hidden gem: I was afraid. My wife and I were meeting a friend in Scranton as sort of a half way point. We settled on Garibaldi's based on its stellar yelp reviews. When we arrived outside the restaurant, I frowned. Calling the neighborhood drab and boring would be complimenting it. The restaurant decor was beyond basic. We were worried that we had made a mistake. We hadn't. To me, dining isn't about decor or location. It's about how the food tastes. And in that category, Garibaldi's hit a home run. I had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. I asked that they make the sauce spicy (a request seldom honored elsewhere) and they did! The food was absolutely delicious. My wife had the steak sandwich and raved about it. If you're looking to impress some uptight business folks, maybe this isn't the place. If you're looking to chow down on awesome food for cheap you can't go wrong here. Garibaldi's is every bit as good as most of New York City's Mexican restaurants, save for the expensive elite. This place is the epitome of family run. The son was our waiter and the mother rang us up. They were extremely warm, friendly, and attentive. This was especially nice as none of us are locals. Finally, I have to respond to one of the other reviewers here: Sam J., you are a fool. It is beyond dumb to give a business a poor review because they don't have a website. I understand that it's 2013 but some places are still old fashioned. Not every business has the money or technical do-it-yourself know how to get a website up and running. Scranton is a dead town. It's lucky to have a place like this but I still doubt they make much more money than is needed to support a family. Maybe you should have been inspired to get in your car and do some research for the customers you'll be serving. This is why big corporate chains dominate.They serve lazy people like you. Holy crap what a hidden gem! We were in Scranton for the day and were wanting Mexican. After looking through some Yelp review we searched out this place and were so thankful for choosing here. Its a small mom&pop place where they cook everything themselves from scratch and its very authentic, not a chain or Americanized Mexican restaurant, They were having a buffet when we went and we ate til we couldn't eat anymore. When it comes to prices and portions, I set the bar high for Mexican food. Garibaldi almost meets the 5 star mark. (Don't feel bad, adorable little taqueria in the wall, there's only 2 other cheap Mexican restaurants in the world I've ever given a 5 star rating to). First off, I have to say: the guacamole here is literally the best I've ever had. Not too salty (maybe no salt, actually?), just a hint of lime & cilantro, plenty of onion, and served chunky and in large portions with the pit for an added touch. Best ever. Tried the steak burrito. It was oozing with cheese and piping hot and the steak was juicy but besides steak, rice, and cheese, there was nothing else in it. I knocked it down a star since the aforementioned 5-star-rated Mexican restaurants also put the expected in their burritos: cilantro, sour cream, onion, tomato, and mixed veggies. Luckily for me, my boyfriend had the nachos and didn't want any of his side toppings (guac, pico de gallo, sour cream), so I added it to my burrito to amp it up a bit, but still, without those, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it that much. I did try a chicken flauta someone else was too full to finish and it was also the best I ever had- not over-seasoned and moist and flavorful, all wrapped in a crispy tortilla. Next time, I'll just order the guac, the flautas, and perhaps one of their $1 taco options. 5 tacos for $5 and you're set. Some other pros: it's BYOB (which I realized after reading other Yelpers' reviews), it's CHEAPPPP, and the owner/chef chops and dices and sizzles right in front of you- very authentic. I don't even know where to being with explaining how perfect this place is, it's a low key place that is family owned and operated with the most authentic Mexican food I've had in this country. The chips are perfect, the white sauce with them is to die for. The chorizo tacos were perfect, the corn tortilla was soft and delicious and it was all topped with very fresh cilantro The mango juice was extremely fresh and was a great addition to the meal. Onto the pork pozole, it was incredible. Dare I say the best I've ever had. It was the perfect salty bowl of spicy soup. The pork was tender and flavorful, and the hominy was the exact texture that was needed. The broth was so complex with so many layer of flavor. Starting out salty then slowly building a little heat but nothing more than enough to remind you it is made with peppers. All in all it was an absolutely flawless meal prepared and served by a very friendly family. read more

If you have taste buds do your self a favor and don't come to this place. The food was dry with no flavor. The guacamole was disgusting, the cilantro was not cilantro. The quesadillas were horrible and a disgrace, the huarache wasn't a real authentic huarache, their horchata was just milk with sugar and had no flavor. The bistec tasted like it was in the fridge for days before being served. The tamale was so small and dry.
