The young woman working was great serving disgusting food! Nachos weren't heated came out of a garbage can w liner in it, guacamole had more onions in it then avocado. Last time I came here the owner was on phone complaining about a woman gossiping in the school district. My third time coming here in 2/3 yrs. Will never return and plan on calling on restaurant authorities to inspect read more

California Taco - Slop - Seafood Near Me - Hamlin, Pennsylvania

You should go here for great food. Service is pretty good. Like the location as well.

I wanted to love California Taco! I'm a native Californian craving food I remembered & loved. Sadly, this was not the case! The portions were good but it tasted like what people think Mexican food should taste like. It lacked authentic spices. Spices are not just for heat, they add FLAVOR. read more

People serving were friendly. Blackened chix burrito was good. Guacamole wasn't seasoned enough; no flavor. Salsa was good. Chips were homemade. Place is better than reviews posted. Burrito was a nice size and pretty tastey. read more

When you walk in the place smells strongly of oil. I had a standard taco salad. The "beef" had no flavor and the "salad" was non-existent. There was no cheese, barely any toppings. Rice, meat and beans in a greasy shell. The empanadas were also greasy and filled with whatever leftover dark meat chicken they had. This is not an establishment I would go to again. Save your money read more

Decent service and conventient. Decent prices and portions. However the food is typically bland and what they call "the mexican pizza" a new add was NG and needed flavor and perhaps refried beans but never again. In general you will need to add something to add flavor to their tacos and burritos. Generally bland and unseasoned. Everything does not seem perfectly fresh either. If you like good Mexican, keep driving. I can't really say this is real American Mexican. If you want to fill the tank, and don't want KFC or McDonalds, or a sub, and don't want to do a sit down meal then this is what you have as an option in Hamlin. read more

I ordered the "classic burrito". The description from the menu reads: "Rice, black beans, jack cheese, salsa, sour cream w. taco beef or you could add Mesquite chicken, shredded Pork, shrimp or fresh veggies" I got the shredded pork. They were extremely generous with the rice. It was about 90% rice. There was no sour cream or salsa in the burrito, and very little meat (and very little flavor). I would have been better off getting some pork fried rice from the Chinese place next door and wrapping it in a tortilla. My daughter ordered hers with mesquite chicken, and only cheese and lettuce (no rice or beans, nor the sour cream or salsa that I didn't get anyway), so she lucked out and got a lot of chicken, so they get a point for that, but thats overly generous all in all. read more

So so good. I always look forward to getting food from here because it's so good. Super fast service, employees are always super nice, and the food is phenomenal. Never had an issue here and I wished I lived closer because I'd eat here way more! read more

This is a pretty decent place if you are in the area and need to satisfy a taco craving. Most of their menu is pretty much Tex-Mex style but they also offer Carnitas with cilantro and onion. The food seems to be cooked pretty well and their sauces are nice too. I come here from time to time when I am in the area but it's not something that we go out of my way to eat. read more

Fast service, decent ambience and overall a good stop. Polite staff. Food could be fresher but as the only Mexican option locally it's great to have. read more

Love it! We're so glad this is in the area, so we don't have to go too far for a new cuisine. It's quick, affordable, and good flavors. We're from Southern California, so we quickly recognized the recipes are not authentic, but it's still very good. Imagine Del Taco, Chipotle, AND Tex-Mex had a baby, voila... read more

I bought the classic burrito. Filled with rice and barely any meat. I'll go back again, just build my own burrito instead. The rice was good, seasoned well. Just have to ask next time to go easy on the rice portions. I'll give them a four star review. I'm sure the next burrito I get will be better, just LESS rice and more MEAT. And salsa. read more

It's nice to have a Mexican place nearby. I know it's not authentic but the food does have good flavors and they have good hot sauces to put on your food as well. Definitely more of a Tex-Mex then California Mexican flavors but I'm happy with it and will be visiting often when we are in town. You order at the front then go sit down. They call your number and you pick up your food from the counter. The place was clean. They make most things fresh from what I noticed. It's a family operation it seems. I'll try out more food from the menu and update my review! read more

Omg!!!! Food is amazing. Every-time we head to the Poconos we stop at California Taco for either lunch or dinner. My son has asked me to bring it back to NY for him. 3 hour car ride and he will eat it cold. It's a must to eat there. I highly recommend going. Also, the service is amazing and the owners are delightful. read more

This is the worst taco I've ever had in my life. I should have walked out when I asked if they had carne asada and she asked me "what is that?" I'm from CA originally and I'm honestly offended this is called California taco. I took a bite and threw it in the trash. Taco Bell is an upgrade from this place. read more

The food and service was amazing! The staff are very friendly and very polite as well! The food was hot and tasty, and the ingredients were very fresh. A nice family friendly environment! Will be returning as soon as I can read more

I love this place and I can't figure out why it isn't busier. The ingredients are fresh and plentiful. You have many options to build your meals with and make them unique. These are not typical cookie cutter meals. The staff is amazing and courteous. I called once to find out when they closed and they actually waited for me. Highly recommend them. And the dining room is designed adorably. read more

As a person Born and raised in California nothing about this restaurant is California they don't use Shredded beef for anything and when I asked about it they said it cost too much to offer and no one was ordering it on their second day open, they put way too much rice in everything and hardly any meat so everything thing they have is dry like death valley. Not a single person that works or owns this restaurant is from California nor ever been so how do you Call it California taco? The food is disgusting. I would rather eat at taco bell that there. read more

We stopped in on a whim, and I'm glad we did! We ordered a chicken taco, a rice bowl with chicken and a quesadilla. We ordered guacamole with each dish. Every dish was really good! The servings were generous and we were served quickly. The place itself is cute and very clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back and recommend to friends. Well done!! read more

I had a great plate of nachos here once, but the quality gets worse every time i go back. They dont listen at the counter--i always ask for no sour cream, but every time i get my order, without fail, i get a plate soaked with the stuff. There's also way less meat, cheese, salsa, etc. on the chips each time i go, and the last one only had toppings on the very top layer--just a pile of plain chips underneath. And i cant even call them "chips" half the time since they like to use old taco shells instead, bland and burnt, just inedible really. The nachos also have this gross brown water on them; I'm not sure what it is, but it tastes gross and ruins my appetite. They're nice people but they just dont care much about the quality of their food. Save your money and eat somewhere else. Taco Bell can do a better job. read more

Double charged for our meal, went back to tell staff they asked to see my bank statement. I called my bank and arranged to have the double charged meal disputed. Completely unnecessary if you train your staff how to use the cash register's debit functions. Not interested in the excuses, will not return under any circumstances, food was fine but not worth double price. Not going to go into how rude the staff were. Enough, you want to deal with it, don't say I didn't warn you. read more

Every one that rents this space faces a curse of doom and shuts down months later. This business is no exception

Regular burrito filled with to much rice I would rather a smaller burrito I can enjoy than a burrito that looks big but filled with way to much rice and not enough of everything else disappointed it tastes okay but the overload of rice killed it for me pancheros in moosic is still the best burrito around read more

This place is just okay. The food is decent and in large portions, but not for the price. It's just a little to pricey for just okay food that doesn't seem flavorful enough. The place itself is nice, and the employees seemed like they were irritated. I'd never been here before, and they just kinda stared at me and made me feel stupid while they were waiting for the food prepper to take my order. It's just fine, but I wouldn't recommend it. read more

This place is so cute inside! The menu looks amazing and the service and cleanliness receive a 10 from me. The two women i met today were so sweet and made the best rice bowl and tacos! I highly recommend stopping here because the prices are amazing and so is the quality of the food!! read more

Today was my first time going to this establishment, and based on some of the reviews I seen I was a little nervous to try them out, but I'm so glad I gave them a chance to make my own decision about them, the food was AMAZING, it was very clean inside and the workers were very friendly and our food was put together nicely and quickly, I got the Blackened Chicken & Spinach Quesadilla, HIGHLY recommend it. It was full of flavor and the salsa and sour cream that came on the side tasted homemade and delicious as well! I hope this place sticks around, they definitely deserve some love from the community and a chance to be something big! The atmosphere was nice as well, it was very nicely decorated and gave you plenty to look at while you ate. read more

I went with my mom for lunch, we didn't have a good experience. I gave It a chance after reading reviews, and really hope the owners accept the feedback to make improvements as the place has potential. I ordered taco salad with chicken, got beef probably because the person couldn't hear me behind the glass. A portal for speech such as your local gas station has would solve the problem. what I received more more resemblance to a burrito bowl than a salad, There was hardly any vegetables, I got a scoop of burrito fillings in a shell not a salad or taco or taco salad . Rice and beans are great but don't really fit in a taco salad. No lettuce and tomato, or kidney beans . I suggest increasing quality and decreasing quantity And focusing on authenticity instead of stretching basic fillings as far as they can go. mom got a salad and thinks the shrimp made her sick. No receipt until we asked for one. not inspired to return. read more

Yummy! Hot and quick. This is a new counter place that seems to do a fair amount of takeout. But food was good as was the service. (I'm disabled and they brought it to the table.) Not true mexican, as you might guess from the name. But, affordable and tasty. We will definitely go back. read more

First time ordering and we won't be returning! We ordered to go. I had a Taco Salad, they forgot The Lettuce, Tomatoes and Sour Cream! We also ordered a Rice Bowl, the paper menu says choice of grilled mesquite chicken or shredded pork when we went to pick up our order, they said chicken is now 2.00 extra!! So we paid 2.00 extra! there was about 12 tiny pieces of chicken on it, some of it was pink and undone, it didn't taste good at all! They put about 3 stringy pieces of lettuce on it. The menu says A Bed of Lettuce! We thought about calling to make them aware of this, but instead we will just never go back or recommend them to anyone! read more

Traveling and had a taste for tacos. Went to this place because it was recommended. Well not customer service! When I asked for extra sauce the lady was not pleasant. People don't realize the face speaks volumes and hers was ver high and I hadn't walked out before she went over to the man working alongside her and started talking. I will not recommend and angry I patronized. HARD PASS!!!!! No stars....but had to post so 1 read more

I've driven by the place 100xs and never stopped until today. I'm glad I did!! Ordered the mango habanero burrito to go and let me say I've had many different burritos from many different restaurants in multiple states, and this might be the best I've ever had‍. I ate half while driving but it was so big I couldn't do both. I ate the other half once I got back to the office in Scranton (no pun intended) and it was still as good as the first bite. The owner I believe is the one who waited on me and suggested the burrito She was very friendly and even had her mom in the kitchen whipping up more good food I'm sure! I will definitely be back again to see if everything else on the menu is just as delicious! Thanks again for providing fresh quality ingredients for a reasonable price. Some people might say $14 is too much for a burrito but I challenge you to find a better one for a cheaper price. You def get your money's worth... read more

To start off , this is not a Mexican Crusine at all , as a proud female Mexican this is restaurant is nothing related or close to Real Authentic Mexican Food , such a disappointment and waste of money , the workers there , which was 2 females who , I asked "hey do you speak Spanish" so I could feel comfortable in what I thought was a real Mexican restaurant, and her response was "no" , the food I was ordered was , rice , beans and pork ... Um I didn't finish my food , only took 4 or 5 spoons and let it as is it. My stomach hurts only after 15 mins of "finishing" my food. To be honest , the only authentic thing in this so-called Mexican restaurant is the beautiful decorations filled of Mexican culture such as Frida , jarritos which is a well known Mexican soda , this is a disappointment and waste of money , not real Mexican food and a lot of options to order from the menu, so sad I have to give this review but it's the most honest review so make your own decision now. read more
