We were surprised by how good this taco place was in the Poconos. It is cash only with outdoor seating. A taco was 4-5 dollars which is notably cheaper than a lot of mediocre tacos in NYC. We liked the fish, pork, carne asada and beef tacos. They all had decent protein quantity and fresh toppings. The nachos came with very crunchy chips which held its crisp despite being topped with generous amount of sauce.
We were surprised it was so cheap-$5 for taco, but it's literally for 1 taco. I thought it'd be the standard 3 tacos per order but whatever, 2 was enough to fill me up anyway. We got breaded shrimp & bang bang shrimp tacos. The breaded shrimp comes "with queso fresco, shredded Napa cabbage, pickled red onion, roasted garlic salsa, & cilantro oil on corn tortilla. Never heard of cilantro oil before. Which species of oil is that? The bang bang shrimp is grilled, which I prefer. Both tacos are good, really good flavor, the sauce spills out with the first bite. It's a mixture of sweet, sour, salty flavors. We also got rainbow chili ($6). The chili contains "bell peppers, beans, smoked jalapeños, roasted corn, braised tomatoes, caramelized onions, garnished with queso fresco & cilantro oil." This is the best chili I've ever had. This might also be the only chili I've bought. I recall making chili once upon a time, didn't turn out anywhere near as good as this. This is chili done right. Like any good chili, this is somewhat spicy, so beware if you can't handle spice. Besides the spice & the bell peppers, it was perfect. A hearty, filling bowl of chili was the perfect way to end the meal. It's piping hot, so be careful. Chili is especially perfect for winter/cold weather. Even tho it's summer, we still loved it.
Wow! Totally unexpected, pure deliciousness! Well done! This tiny place sure knows how to serve up a solid meal. I thoroughly enjoy the beef and chicken tacos, nachos, and empanadas. Seems that their blackboard menu is set yet they offer specials as well. We asked regulars what to get and they couldn't pick bc they love it all. And I don't blame them. The place is small but exactly all you need with friendly staff and a fun environment. CASH ONLY!
We decided to stop here for lunch and we figured we would try some tacos, while in the Poconos. The food was average but not sure I was in love with their braised chicken taco, since it lacked the flavor I was hoping for. I also tried the crispy shrimp taco, which was better. Then we ordered the plain cheese quesadilla, which was surprisingly good, and the shrimp and lobster empanada. The service was quick. We ordered at one window and just keep in mind, that it's cash only. The ambiance is casual, and they only have outdoor seating. There are no restrooms, except for a couple of portable potty's, if you need a restroom. Definitely casual vibes if you decide to try Zach's Taco Shack.
Ate here for dinner as we stayed at the nearby Waterpark and was very surprised at the food. Ordered two breaded shrimp tacos, a steak taco, pork taco, and the lobster and shrimp empanada. Everything was delicious and great. Never had lobster and shrimp empanada and that was great! Wifey really liked the steak taco and the pork taco. lil is picky as hell and he really liked the shrimp taco. Staff was very patient and super friendly. Cash only and they have outdoor seating.
We decided to get takeout from Zach's Taco Shack with our friends during our trip to the Poconos. I ordered 2 tacos (steak and breaded shrimp) and Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla. The tacos were wrapped with 2 soft shells. I would recommend the breaded shrimp over the steak. The quesadilla was good. It had a good amount of cheese, but I wish there was a little more buffalo chicken piece. A few of my friends ordered a burrito and they were packed. The prices were good of the portion size and the staff was very friendly.
Stopped there during my travels because I was starving and the reviews. I ordered the chicken enchilada and steak with shrimp taco with a side of guacamole $18. Everything was bland and lacking of flavor. I'll give them another try if I happen to be in this neck of the woods again... maybe they were having an off day.
I ordered for pick up and it only took about 10 minutes for 3 tacos. I got the steak, pulled pork and chicken taco. They were all so flavorful! Loved them and so looking forward to coming back.
Decent tacos for the area. I liked the breaded shrimp one. The pork and the chicken were okay, although the meat was on the flavorless side. However they did add a fairly generous amount of toppings for flavor. 3 tacos was a decent amount of food for about $10 Order pickup is unorganized. Tacos can take 15-20min so call ahead Cash only (they didn't tell us this when we called so we had to go hunt for cash and return)

Solid Tex Mex spot near the Camelback recreation area. There's no inside seating. You can sit outside in warmer weather at least. Or you can get takeout. You order on side of their space, and pickup from the other side. Everybody liked their order. I ordered a Shredded Pork Burrito Bowl. It had rice, beans, shredded pork, Shredded cheese, some veggies, sour cream, etc. It was a good value. Had well rounded flavor. I would return. 4 Stars read more
Tried Zack's Taco for the first time. My husband and daughter really enjoyed the bang bang shrimp, chicken, and pork carnitas tacos--they said the flavors were spot on. I had the three-bean taco, which was a bit bland for my taste. I added a side of mango salsa to help balance out the beans and pickled onions, which improved the flavor. The reason for the 4-star rating is mostly due to the chips--they had a cinnamon flavor I wasn't a fan of. Also, there's no printed menu, just a chalkboard that's a little hard to read, and they only accept cash. So just a heads-up: bring cash if you plan to eat here. read more

My food was very good as always. My steak tacos were yummy!! I wolfed down my beef and cheese empanada so fast, I did not get a picture of it. I highly recommend this establishment if you are in the area. read more

Come here if you are looking for something filling! Food: I ordered the bad ass burrito! It was very big, and if you are hungry - this is what you should go for. Overall tho, I thought it was really dry so I highly recommend asking for sauces on the side. Bc there is no sour cream or guacamole. Also there is a mix of flavors in here that I don't fully get. The rice and beans are also not great, so do not order those on the side Price: reasonable - about 12 for a buritto Ambience: this is just a shack, they have no seating! So you will have to order out Service: pretty slow I would say read more
We haven't been back to Tannersville, PA for quite some time now and driving around yesterday there seem to be quite a few new establishments. We stopped by this roadside Zack's Taco Shack which has outdoor seating and porto-potty around the corner. This is a cash only place but they do have ATM machines on premise just in case. My wife ordered 1 mahi taco and 1 buffalo cauliflower taco, both on corn tortilla as requested. It came to be around $5 each and she enjoyed them and felt the ingredients were fresh and vibrant. My son got the rainbow chili which many people raved about. It actually was quite filling and wasn't spicy to the point of burning off your tongue. It had a nice, tempered taste to it. He also got 2 orders of beef & cheese empanadas which he claimed were out of this world. Each empanada is about $5. I got the loaded nachos with steak. While the presentation was not what I'd expected (meaning not melted oozy cheese) and lightly fried nachos, it was very tasty nonetheless. Our orders came out to roughly $42 which is very decent for today's inflationary standard. I would recommend this place and the cashier is super charming and social. read more

This is the rainbow chili. The price was affordable. Our order was ready when we got there. The flavor was ok. The chili has a unique look. read more
GREAT customer service, the lady there was very helpful with telling us about gluten free options include ones that might have cross contamination. We're visiting from W coast and asked about restaurants in area, she spent plenty of time telling us where the local favorites are and went out of her way to get local magazine from next door ski shop to point out options. I got chicken tacos and salsa chips - tried getting fish taco, beef taco, and then beans/rice and they were out of all these. Great flavors - I'm spoiled with mex food from living in Portland/West coast areas, so not the best tacos but still very solid and good portion. Husband got veg burrito and felt similarly - solid, but not ground breaking. Chips and salsa was different as seasoning is sweet/salty with chunky salsa. I actually enjoyed the change from the traditional style, but I still would pick a classic seasoning at the end of the day. read more

The legend is true. These tacos were magnificent! I've been hearing about this place for years and finally got around to it today. Wtf is in that al pastor marinade because as a foodie, I couldn't pinpoint it and it's sooooo freaking goodt! I got the breaded shrimp taco (THEY do the breading. It's not pre-fab breaded shrimp and the shrimp is super flavorful) & the three bean tacos as well & they were ALL distinct in flavor and ALL so delicious. I HOUSED them! When i first got there & saw the prices, I thought they were high considering I know where to find excellent, cheap mom & pop tacos but my goodness, Zack's was worth it. They were a larger size & they didn't skimp on filing. A definite MUST in the area! The place is not fancy at all. Chalkboard menu. Surfboard stickers. Flags hanging on the ceiling. I felt like I was at my college boyfriend's frat house. But just like that place, it's fun and a feast for your eyes. Had to ring the bell for service. Love that it felt pressure-free. Just order whenever. It took a while for 3 tacos to come out but excellence takes time. I love this place & wanna go back NOW! read more

This was so good-- tbh, I'm surprised to have found it in the middle of Pennsylvania... The burrito was humongous-- like a 2lb masterpiece. We got the chicken inside. It was a considerable amount of chicken, along with rice, beans, etc. Delicious. Would recommend you get this too! The chipotle steak taco was very tasty as well... it was a double tortilla and had a nice flavor. I got a pumpkin hot sauce (seasonal, special) on the side which was really good. Love that they had more than the traditional sauce options. Finally, we got a chicken quesadilla... this was also good, however, it's just chicken and cheese so I don't think I would get it again and would opt for something with more to it. The sour cream sauce that comes with it was a great touch though. Note-- they are CASH ONLY and they are really more of a pickup spot. I think they may have some outdoor seating during the summer but it really seems like more of a pickup/carry out place. read more

Zack's Taco Shack is truly a shack in the middle of the Pocono mountains. Order at the window and eat at one of two tables or take your food to go. The place has funky, colorful decor. The compact menu is on the wall. We chose a variety of tacos between the three of us. At lunch time, two tacos were more than enough for me. We tried the shrimp, pork, and chicken. The shrimp tacos were definitely my favorite. The chicken was okay but it was my least favorite. The tacos came with a ton of toppings including queso, shredded Napa cabbage, pickled red onions, roasted garlic salsa, and smoked cayenne sour cream. Do your self a favor and even if you are not sure, at least try one taco with all of the toppings. It is worth it! The tacos are served in a twin wrapped white corn tortilla. The inside tortilla was crunchy which I really liked. The outside tortilla was soft, which I could have done without. Definitely an interesting place to stop for a quick, tasty, and reasonable bite! read more

Zack's Taco Shack has the best Mexican food that I've had so far in the Poconos and I can't wait to go back for more! Tonight I tried their slow cooked chicken burrito and it was very tasty. It tasted fresh and flavorful. The burrito is really packed too, you can easily a quarter or half of it and be full. The taco shack has a window where you place your order. I had to wait about 15 minutes for my burrito. In the mean time I killed time at a cool gift shop that's attached to the taco shop, where I killed time. There isn't a lot of seating here. We planned on eating here but it started to rain and they only have outdoor seating. Also they don't have a restroom at their specific building but they have an agreement with the next door restaurant Tony's that allows their patrons to go other there. So be prepared to take your food to go if you come here. Also bring cash, they do not take credit/debit cards read more
