First time coming here, came with a girlfriend for dinner. We both ordered a taco salad with the shredded chicken. You can see in the pictures, the salad was old, and the chicken looked between uncooked and old and the taco shell was filled with water. It was un edible. We waited 20 minutes until the waitress came over to see if we wanted boxes and then she noticed that we didn't eat it and we stated it was not eatable. This was close to a 3 but I don't think i can push it over. The ambiance is great! Typical Mexican restaurant with booths and a large bar area. The service was atrocious! I had to ask for a separate plates 2 times, ask for hot sauce 2 times, extra silverware. The food is very bland for Mexican. It lacks any spice so you will definitely need hot sauce. I feel the portion size was smaller than most places as well. The accompanying rice was ok but also left much to be desired in flavor. The chicken chipotle enchilada was cold but it was filled ok. The same goes for the chicken chimichanga. The queso used in the vegetarian enchiladas was good and was probably our favorite dish. The brightest part of the restaurant was the drinks. The pineapple mojito was phenomenal and the house sangria was pretty good too. They do have unique menu with hard to choose options but i don't think it's a place is visit again. I was looking for something to grab to eat and get a drink. When I arrived I parked in their lot. I walked in and sat at the bar. Gloria was my bartender and she was nice and super busy. I started with a "lemon drop" martini and it was actually good. I then got a long island iced tea which was just ok. For my meal I ordered the pescado tolteca and it was good. While a loved one was in St Luke's Hospital nearby we wanted to eat somewhere that wasn't a large chain restaurant. We have eaten at the Pocono Pub a few times and mostly everything else right there is a chain but we remembered that La Tolteca had opened recently. I'm so happy we did. So right off the bat, the margarita's were excellent. We each got a different one and they were both very tasty. I'd go back even if it was just to grab a drink. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable as well. We ordered the tableside guacamole as a starter and it was excellent. The woman who came to the table with the cart to make it was warm and friendly but i'm not sure she spoke any English at all. The flavor of the Guac was very nice. I had the "Molcajete Azteca" which was massive! It had ribeye, shrimp, chicken breast, pineapple, poblanos and onions and melted cheeses. It had a ton of flavor...i'd order this every time I go if I can. It also came in this crazy volcanic rock type bowl, so cool. Chas had the "Pina Loca" which was very similar to the other dish but without shrimp and it was stuffed inside a hollowed out pineapple. I tried a bit of this as well and the flavors were very similar, and also delicious. I don't know that i'd say this is 100% authentic Mexican but it was excellent. Steak fajitas taco salad was missing the onions and peppers but it had queso, and that didn't come with it. Score it was good. I mean fried shell makes it even better! She took our drink orders and it took FOREVER to come. I would understand if it was made fresh but it was already premade. We ordered a classic margarita (it was not strong). After the wait, we decided to order entrees, I had fish tacos with rice. The wait for the entree was too long. The fish tacos finally came out, you would think everything would be piping hot but it wasn't. The fish taco was cold and dry. There was no seasoning what's so ever. For my own experience, I have found the tableside prepared guacamole excellent. Lime, onion, peppers are all adjusted to the customer's taste. Churasco (skirt steak) with chimichuri sauce is one of my favorite dishes. As it it a thinner cut it can be difficult to achieve a proper medium-rare on the grill. La Tolteca has consistently delivered this grilled to a perfect medium rare. There is no better Mexican restaurant in the area. read more

Okay I loved it! We sat down, immediately got greeted. We ordered our drinks (including a margarita) and it came out almost instantly. If you order drinks at restaurants, you know sometimes the drinks take forever. Not here! After we got our drinks, he took our food order. App came up right away, a couple minutes later our food. The food was fantastic. I typically don't like Mexican food because I'm stupidly picky when it comes to food, so I always order pretty basic. It was wonderful. I ordered the cheese dip as an app and chimichangas as my entree. Chicken was moist and it was delicious! So much so I ordered one to go! The server knew exactly when to come back and ask us how we were doing- no full-mouth conversations here. From the time we sat down and got our dinner, it was less than 15 minutes. The second and third time we visited, the service was terrible, but the food was still good. We spoke to the manager in out first visit and let him know how impressed we were. The second time, the service was bad. we chalked it up as a fluke. We just went again, for our third visit. The service was terrible! We asked for salsa three times, along with napkins, as we never got any. We didn't get our drinks, until after we got our appetizers. They tried giving us the wrong food, forgot to bring items we ordered and were generally unacceptably slow with everything. After we paid our bill, We asked to speak to a manager. After about 15 minutes, we left, without speaking to a manager. We drove approximately 35 minutes to get to the restaurant. The food was worth the drive, but we will be looking for someplace else to eat, after the poor service. read more

We ordered fajitas, burritos, tacos, and enchiladas, and everyone was happy with their meal. The flavors were really on point, especially the rice and beans. I could eat a whole bowl of the rice in particular. Some Mexican places have bland sides, but this wasn't the case. We don't live here, but I wish this were my local Mexican place. Went to La Tolteca on a Monday night with my husband. When we got there it wasn't busy at all. We were seated and brought some chips and salsa. Our waiter said he'd be right back. About fifteen minutes later he took our order. About ten minutes later our drinks arrived. The restaurant started to get busy. Then we waited. And waited. And waited--another forty-five minutes for our food. My husband ordered Fajitas Vallarta--A mix of chorizo Mexican Sausage, grilled chicken and steak. It was supposed to come with pico, sour cream, rice, and refried beans. What he got was extremely overcooked meat (almost completely chicken with two pieces of sausage that he could find) barely enough pico to make two fajitas, dried out rice and no beans. I ordered the Carnitas Burrito--One tortilla filled with pork confit, rice, beans and guacamole dip. Drizzled with cheese sauce and a side of tomatillo sauce. What I got was a burrito filled with super dry pork, rice and beans, with cheese sauce, a tablespoon of guacamole that tasted like it was just puréed avocado and about a half teaspoon of pico on top to make it look pretty. I don't mind waiting a long time for exceptional food but this was not food worth waiting for. Sadly, we won't be back. read more

I found a nice Mexican restaurant online so we decided to go. Well let me tell you it was amazing place. The atmosphere clean and welcoming. The staff were polite and friendly. Richard was our server and he was great. I order the chicken Fajitas and my wife order the Chicken Salad minus the dressing. Huge portions of food. The food tasted the best I've had since I moved from El Paso to the Northeast over a decade ago. But I was disappointed that my Pina Loca had meat and veggies stuffed into a hollowed out half-pineapple...but no pineapple. I ordered it because it said grilled pineapple, which is delicious. But there was no actual pineapple in the dish! Who cares if the meat is sitting in a grilled pineapple if there is absolutely no flavor of pineapple in the dish? They should mix the pineapple flesh in with the chopped meat and veggies! I guess they just use the pineapple husk that is left over after they use the actual pineapple flesh in some other dish or drink. :( I also didn't really like that the waitress kept asking if I wanted shrimp. Adding shrimp to the dish was an additional charge of several dollars and I was trying to avoid seafood since Zi am pregnant. I kept saying I just wanted the beef and chicken that came with the dish, but she kept saying shrimp, shrimp. I even told her in Spanish that I just wanted beef and chicken.
