Pescado traditional taco, and Machu Pollo specialty taco.
Diane M.

Update... after the initial thrill of having a Taco Bamba in Richmond, we've found the quality has degraded, and it is no where near as good as when it opened, nor does it hold a candle to the original Bamba in Falls Church. The tacos are often a hot mess, sometimes the meat is dry, sometimes the topping overwhelm the meat/fish. After multiple disappointing visits, we've decided to look elsewhere for tacos.

Love me some Taco Bamba! The local inspired chef creation tacos are delicious and can't go wrong trying any. However, I've been loving the basic traditional tacos with just onions and cilantro, like the carne asaada and pork. Two tacos and a side or two here is my sweet spot, but when feeling indecisive I'll sometimes add a third taco. The wings are tasty too. Bamba Fries are a treat, but I find them a little heavy and better as a table shareable. Not sure how they would hold up on takeout, but dine in they are great at least. I enjoy the chips and guacamole, and the rice is so moist and flavorful. You wouldn't expect an order at the counter spot to have such great food and drinks, and even a nice happy hour! They win at this, and drinks are delicious!

I got the "pack the bowl" with birria as my chosen protein. The bowl was packed with fresh ingredients and a good serving of protein. I'm not sure if I'd get the birria again as there was way more fat than anticipated. I ordered via DoorDash so I can't comment on service.

While shopping it's hard to find a good lunch spot. Taco Bamba was rocking! I loved walking inside and hearing great music and being greeted by friendly staff. There is plenty of parking and the option of outdoor dining. It's wonderful to have breakfast options served all day with free coffee. My bacon egg and cheese empanadas were delicious. I didn't make it over to the bar but asked questions for my next trip in. It's a great place for single, date or family meal. Almost forgot, the chips with the cheese queso... perfection!

The staff and the atmosphere were spectacular. The server helped me understand what I was ordering since it was my first time here. The food was served with a smile. The music playlist alone makes me want to return.

Nice place to have a drink and grab a bite to eat while you're out shopping. full menu lots of choices, Friendly staff and nice dining room area. Food is a good American version of Mexican food that the white man would be proud of.

I got the Taco Bamba, carne picada, and birria tacos ($5 ea), elote ($4) , and chips and queso ($6) . Food came out in about 15 minutes which seemed good by how busy it was. My favorite taco was the taco bamba out of the three. The elote was also quite good especially with the amount of cheese they loaded on it. The queso was thick but tasted average for what it was. The inside was a bit small and seating was hard to find due to the busyness. Overall I had a good enough experience to come back. I went with friend for lunch today. Great place, tasty food, staff were friendly. It got busier and louder towards the end.

I would say this place is alright ! The $6 happy hour flautas were yummy with the refried beans on top. I would say the guacamole was advertised as grilled and something out of the ordinary. It was pre packaged like the chipotle gauc. It was still pretty good tho I just felt aggressively misled. Also this place specializes in mezcal and we were able to get happy hour mezcal margs ! They do have a pretty strong happy hour. My boyfriend got the Jeffrey I believe it's called. It was the egg roll thing with beef and Chorizo etc. he did not enjoy that said the breading wasn't the way he likes it. I don't eat pork so I was not able to try that. We sat at the bar so service was pretty good. I will say the spot is cute. I enjoyed it.

The Jeneral Taco. Ahi tuna, cabbage cup. Delish.

Another great meal at Taco Bamba. All of the TBs have different menus and this one has to be my favorite. The bartender was so passionate about the menu. She did an excellent job 'selling' the menu items. It's in a shopping center so parking is plentiful.

Pack the Bowl with Birria.

Ordered the "pack the bowl" and I walked out of there packed! So much food, so many flavors, so many textures, so many different colors, etc. The Birria was so soft and tender; like it was cooked in a crockpot for 24 hours.

Recently went back to Taco Bamba with a couple of friends since we were craving tacos. I tried 3 new tacos and ran into similar issues from my previous review of saltiness in 2 out of 3 of the tacos. The Arabe taco was made with pita instead of a tortilla and was phenomenal! It felt very filling and had a good flavor profile. The Herky Jerky was made with carnitas which was a tougher cut of meat and skewed salty and spicy. We also tried their queso and chips and churros (again) which were both delicious! I had to amend my review and add a star for service! The star of the night was our server Scarlett. She was absolutely phenomenal, knew the menu well, offered great recommendations and checked in on us often. This is one of those places that you frequent because the service is just that good. Honestly one of the best service experiences I have had this year and I would highly recommend visiting and sitting at the bar with her or requesting table service with Scarlett. Overall, Taco Bamba is a good option for a quick dinner. I would recommend asking for suggestions from your server or staff to avoid the salty pitfalls I fell into and make sure to try some of the non-taco options such as the queso, salsa, chips, drinks and don't forget dessert you will definitely want the churros.

If you go on Wednesday (any time), tacos are $1.99. They are opened from 10am-9pm. They had 8 options to choose from. We picked the chorizo, carne asada, carnitas, and chicharrón en salsa verde. These little, double-layered tacos packed a lot of flavor. Everything was delicious, but we agreed that our favorite was the carnitas (fried pork). It had a crunch to it that was perfect. All of the tacos were topped with cilantro and diced raw onions, but you can opt to not have it. They also had a sauce bar with different sauce options from the wimpy tomatillo sauce to the hottest. The server was friendly and nice. They also offered a good variety of menu items including desserts. I asked the waitress about their tacos on other days and she said they are $3.49 each and slightly bigger. Finding a cheap meal is hard these days. We will definitely be back.

My favorite Mexican place in this part of Richmond. Always super clean with a very friendly staff!…read moreToday I had the horchata, excellent t, and shrimp diablo, also excellent. Everything is fresh, the seasoning on the shrimp deserves the diablo label and the corn tortillas were also very good with a strong corn flavor. If you are in the area, you should give them a try!
