This place never disappoints hands down one of the best in Laredo. My waiter tonight remembered me from back in Dec when they made room for ten top on the spear of the moment. The Cesar Side salad is huge and very taste. The ribeye with baked and all the trimmings could be cut with the butter knife. In Laredo it is a must go, Thursdays are prime rib.

Quirky, unique ambiance, good food, poor service Food: While on a business trip to Laredo, a colleague and I decided we wanted a good steak. We heard the Tack Room was the place in Laredo for steak. I had the churrasco steak and my colleague had the ribeye. My churrassco was excellent- very good quality and flavorful. My colleague described the ribeye as very good and flavorful but not exceptional. Sides served with the steaks were all excellent (rice and vegetables). Salad bar was very good too with fresh ingredients. Drinks: We asked about the margaritas, and our waitress said Tack Room had the best in Laredo. We ordered top shelf with an extra shot of tequila on the side. The margaritas were very good but not the best ever. Service: Service started great and then went downhill. By the end, we were frustrated and became impatient after waiting 20 minutes to pay and get our credit cards back. We saw that the young man who took our credit cards, JJ, went downstairs. So we went downstairs and found JJ sitting at the bar. I told him we had been waiting for our credit cards. He said he was waiting on the bartender to complete some additional tabs., Our tabs were complete and JJ simply hadn't given us our cards. We were not pleased at all. JJ needs to be trained in the basics of customer service or find another job. Ambiance: quirky equine theme and décor. Definitely unique and intimate. Overall a very small restaurant. Overall cleanliness: average

Hubby took me here for my birthday and the food was great! Atmosphere was so calm & relaxing. Our waitress was so sweet! The Tack Room is definitely a must while in Laredo!

    Preakness: $34.

This review is for a dinner for two in the upstairs dining room on Friday night, Mexican Independence Day. Two drinks + two entrees = $73.00 (or $100 with tip). Service: Earlier in the afternoon, we stopped-in for a drink and to look at the menu. Service at the bar was fine. Attentive without being intrusive. While we were finishing our beers, the hostess received a pizza delivery from Pizza Hut! Not exactly sure what the means? When we returned for dinner upstairs, Hector was our waiter. He was absolutely fine. Professional and helpful. Could have checked once or twice after food was served. Our steak needed some more time on the grill and I could have used a glass of wine. Am thinking they were just busy. bar Two positives and two negatives. On the upside, beer is relatively cheap at $4 a bottle and the Champagnerita (margarita on the rocks) was pretty good. On the downside, the beer selection is limited to Mexican imports or American mega-brews and the mark-up on wine is about 50%, which is a bit much for this restaurant. We didn't see a single glass of wine poured or served during all our time there. food The appetizers are relatively unique. Escargot, crab cakes and tenderloin panchos. Note, their Angels on Horseback are shrimp, not oysters. Never seen Angels on Horseback rendered as shrimp? Next, it's a walk-up salad bar with a big bowl of greens, a dozen toppings - including artichoke hearts, cheese cubes, and anchovies - plus four choices of dressing. I remember bright red French, ranch and something akin to Green Goddess. I had the salmon, which was pretty good. Nicely charred and not overcooked. My wife had the Preakness, which was billed as a 7 oz. filet. Since the Tack Room fancies itself a steakhouse, I'll spend some time here. It's an interesting filet. Definitely not a center cut. Maybe from the butt end with the wing still attached? At $34, we assumed it would be a center cut Prime. It is not. The menu says Black Angus, which should have been an early indicator. My wife requested Medium to Medium Rare, just not bloody. We asked Hector's advice and he thought Medium Rare would achieve that effect. My wife reiterated, no blood. You can see where this is going, can't you? Yes, yes, undercooked. We didn't get a chance to have it put back on, so I ate what she could not. Steaks do not come with sauces, those are all a la carte? House made bread is amazing. I'll say it again, amazing. Veg on the side was fine, if oversalted. The baked potato that came with the steak was actually pretty darned good. We are devotees of James Beard who loved an overcooked potato. The baked potato came with one of those silver serving dishes containing three suspended bowls - one for sour cream, one for bacon bits and one for chives. It was at this moment that I finally recognized this restaurant. The limited cocktail choices, the DIY salad, the unique cuts of beef without sauce, the DIY baked potato - this is the upscale steakhouse of the '80s! I remember these places! I thought Ruth's Chris, Myron's and Capital Grille had eliminated all these places? details As we entered the downstairs, the hostess told us to sit anywhere, including upstairs. Once upstairs, the wait staff told us to sit anywhere, including the veranda. Since the Mexican Independence Day celebration was taking place in the square overlooked by the veranda, we sat outside. Then the waiter told us we could not sit there. We returned inside and sat at a booth. Once seated the waiter asked us if we would like him to carry one of the two-top tables outside so we could sit on the veranda. While this was very considerate, we were afraid to move anymore! The upstairs space is small. The booths are fine, but I would avoid taking the tables between the booths and the exhibition cooking area. The building is charming. Very old, with a horse racing theme. Parts of the dining area could use some upgrades. For example, the doors to the veranda are in need of care. A few thousand too many entries and exits, I would suspect. On the upside the ceiling is fantastic, perhaps recently renovated? And the air conditioning was strong enough to keep up with the comings-and-goings of wait staff to the veranda AND an open grill. While we stayed at the La Posada, parking could be challenging if you're just dropping in for a meal. Perhaps you could use the La Posada valet?

The menu online looks spectacular and had a lot of interesting dishes. I was super excited. I saw that they were open late and I was also very happy about this because my meal was after work. I arrived at 9:30 walked in the side entrance and saw a post hunched over and squatted down, looking at her iPhone. I also saw another employee leaning on the host stand talking to her. He didn't greet me neither did she until I walked to the front of the house stand. She got up from her crouch position and said can I help you? I was surprised to see what she was wearing, an oversized hoodie with some type of logo on it, which was not an appropriate thing to wear, and it did not match the other employee that were more crisp. I said dining for one and grabbed a menu and slid it across the host stand out of pure laziness. She slumped her way over with the menu hanging on her left side and sat me at a table. Wow what a lousy first impression for a restaurant that I was so excited to visit. A server came over gave me a menu and brought me water. Disappointed to see that the menu was completely different from the menu that I saw online. No unique dishes and the variety was not great. However, I was there and felt I'd give it a chance. A server that was at the bar entering tickets or something, kept looking over at my table, but no one ever acknowledged me after I was seated. I waited for about 10 minutes until someone realized I need assistance. The server finally came over. He was polite to check my order served my meal left me to be on my own to check on me one time, but it certainly wasn't a two minute check when he should to see if my meal was to my satisfaction. My plates were not cleared and I had to ask for the check.. the food was OK. I had the salmon. Nothing spectacular. risotto was uneventful. Got my check and left. No goodbye, no thank you for coming in no stand out service. As a restaurant professional in California, I can't figure out if it's just a Texas thing or they rate everything high or this restaurant truly is deserving of its accolades..

Naturally, I was a little hesitant to go to an upscale Argentinean Steakhouse in Laredo TX with "OK" reviews. Still, my girlfriend and I were in the mood for a good steak, so we said "Ehh, what the heck." The ambience was very elegant but not so upscale so as to make you feel like you are out of place. We were immediately greeted and sat down. I liked the detail where you were able to see the kitchen from the dining area through a large window. Very cool. I had the old fashioned, which was true to its original form, and very good. Starting with the bread. Perfect crunch on the outside with a warm soft inside. We then had an order of the beef empanadas. My goodness, those little things were amazing! For our main course, we shared the bone in ribeye and the octopus. It's hard to find an octopus that doesn't have an overwhelming "rubbery" texture. It was so good. Perfectly seasoned. The way it was finished on the grill put it over the top. The steak was seasoned with all a good piece of meat needs: Salt and pepper. I loved that. The meat was cooked so perfectly, that you could pull it apart with your fingers. It was so juicy and flavorful! Delicious! I would put this steak up against almost any steakhouse in Houston. When I sent my compliments to the chef, he came out and personally thanked us for coming out. Once we got the bill, we were surprised by how little we paid for drinks, appetizers, and two main course meals. I would highly recommend you try this place and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

The inside is whatever there's nothing special about it looks like any other place. Our waiter was so nice. He went above and beyond for us. We started with the escargot and I have to say it was OK. It was a little bland. It definitely was missing more flavor to it and it was weird that it didn't come with bread or anything. We also got the tuetano with beef tartar on top of it. It was a huge disappointment. The bone had not been cooked completely and was very fiber and the beef tartar just tasted really off pudding just like raw meat instead of it bean seasoned and marinated the way it should be. We had to send it back for it to get cooked for the bone and when they brought it back, it was still the same thing so they ended up removing it from our check. After this, I did get a cup of the asparagus soup and I have to say that was really nice. Then I got the American ribeye since they were out of the Argentina ribeye which is a disappointment. I had asked for a medium. It came cooked more than medium and it was weird how light colored it was and it just tasted like a typical steak nothing really special to it. The baked potato was whatever. Now the portobello mushrooms and wine sauce that was really delicious. I don't think I would come back here just cause there was nothing really special about it. Also, I hate to say this, but I did eat a little bit of that beef tartar to try it and I'm assuming that's what upset my stomach cause the next day, I was not well.
