Came here for a work dinner and it was excellent. Tucked away in Laredo is an authentic Spanish (not to be confused with mexican) Tapas Restaurant. The staff are very friendly and in our case did a tasting menu for us. We just had our server pick out tapas dishes and brought them out as needed. Food was all delicious, reasonably priced, and cooked to perfection. I can't say I like one thing over the other, because it was all equally good. This is great for dinner and has a nicely decorated space for all size groups. Highly recommend this place if you want something different and delicious. I visit Laredo once a year for work and always make it a priority to dine at Tabernilla. I believe my waitress was Allie and she was wonderful. I believe she was my waitress last year as well! I started with a charcuterie and a glass of red blend wine. I also ordered a few tapas plates. Then I ordered the dessert that was similar to crème brûlée except the custard isn't as firm as a crème brûlée. Everything was very tasty and the ambiance is quiet and romantic. I have always wanted to try this restaurant when i visit my hometown and the opportunity for a girls dinner came by and i decided to try it out. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I cant gush enough about their wine selection especially the garnacha. The server was amazing and timely. Review #1200! Seeing this pop up on my YELP feed, I got super excited seeing this in Laredo as I'm a huge fan of tapas/small plate dining. Whenever I'm in Laredo for work, I make sure we do a team dinner here as this is one of Laredo's best restaurants IMO. First, food is absolutely dynamite. There's so many options to pick from and easy to taste many dishes without being overly gluttonous as the dishes are small and can be shared. Some dishes are individual such as the montadito (toasted baguette topped with something) and the pintxos (small skewered bites). For the montadito, the salmon and the pato membrillo are both excellent (each have a cream cheese spread for a nice silky texture with the meats). The datil pintxo is basically a bacon wrapped date x2 with some queso crumble, thinly sliced duck, and spanish migas; one of my favorite items. As for the traditional tapas dishes, there's plenty of delicious options such as the patatas bravas, croqueta de pollo y mancha (think of a spanish mozzerella stick), pulpo plancha (sauteed potatoes and octopus), veggie empanada, and the tortilla espanola (potato/egg omelette slice). All have excellent combinations of flavors and textures with nice presentations. Pair them with your favorite wine or one of their cocktails such as their Kalimotxa (red sangria + coke) for taste bud explosions! Service is on point. At our most recent visit on a Wednesday in January, our server Aurora took time to explain what the dishes entail and gave some great recommendations. Because of her, we tried a combination of everything such as the albondigas de cordero (beef/lamb meatballs) and the queso de cabra (crispy goat cheese with honey). One of our diners doesn't like goat cheese yet tried the queso de cabra; she may have converted after tasting it! Aurora also gave good drink recommendations to pair with the food; that's how I got my 2011 Baron de Magana red wine which complimented our dishes. She's a rockstar for this establishment. The interior of the place has a dimly lit atmosphere with some spanish music playing making the place a nice spot for group meals or dates. I noticed some couples sharing plates and wine having intimate moments and some single diners sipping on cocktails and munching on a charcuterie selection while soaking in their surroundings. You'll see some wine bottles on display with some matador artwork and mirrors lined up on the booths with the leather seats. Very comfortable; felt like we were transported to Spain having a meal with our family. The dining scene in Laredo got turnt up with this spot being here off of Bob Bullock. Part of my restaurant rotation in Laredo, every single person I have brought here raves about this spot and for good reason. Close to the airport this place has excellent tapas! I had a spinach salad with yummy cheese and peppers to start along with the fried goat cheese and garlic prawns. I kind of ate everything together, and it was all very good. My friend ordered the shrimp vermicelli and was disappointed it was a basic spaghetti with tomato sauce dish. It was not what either of us was expecting. The service was a little odd...our server was behind the bar looking at his phone for a while when we were hungry and trying to place our order. Once the order was in the dishes came out within 10 minutes - that was one positive. Parking was available out front and other than the issue of ordering I liked what I ordered and enjoyed the ambiance of the space. read more

Dishes: - Datil - patatas bravas - esparragos serranos - albondigas - gambas - garbanzo a la gallega - pastel xtra virgen The absolute show stopper for me was the chickpea dish. It was also the one I didn't grab a photo of, since I got it to go. Incredibly good. Should've ordered two. Service was friendly and attentive. Five star experience for me all around, I personally haven't gone to Spain to see what the tapas are like but I figure this might be the closest experience I will get. My favorite tapas are queso cabrete de crujiente(goat cheese with orange glaze) and datil(Mahon, bacon wrapped date with a thinly sliced pâte. Tabernilla ambience is great too, not too dark but just enough light to see your food and your surroundings. Both sangrias are great but when it's warm the blanco sangria is my go to! I've the paella twice at different times, and also very flavorful. The service I've experienced also has been top notch, always attentive. read more

I am less than happy about writing this review. I spent a great deal of time reviewing the menu and putting my order together and telling everybody on Instagram and the company I was auditing that I'm going to have to tapas tonight. I forgo closer restaurants to drive out to this location only to be greeted by a closed restaurant with their sign on. I don't know why they are closed. There is no door note or any notification on Yelp or anywhere else. I was so very disappointed in this. I do not know that I will ever be back to Laredo and I was really hoping to eat here. I ended up going to a sushi restaurant next-door, which did not have much in the way of sushi but the few items I picked were very good. Nonetheless I was very disappointed in this restaurant. B!! She's the best! Our favorite bartender in the Lone Star State besides our son back in Austin of course! We started with the bottle of Grenache after a few samples for my picky wine snob husband! Then we ordered the goat cheese balls with honey! So so good! We also ordered the chcutterie board with several cheeses and the specialty pork that only eats acorns! Ask B.. she will hook you up! We got a a sample first! Ordered the Spanish toast with our cheese tray selection! The mustard seed was so good! We loved our wine, food and most importantly our service at the car with B and also the manager that took care of us on the patio before we decided to move inside! My husband loved the wine and the tapas so much that when it was done he said he wishes we could do it all again... and we will! Many people recommended me to go to Tabernilla for their Paella so I had to try it! As I entered the restaurant I was quickly greeted by the hostess which was friendly. Waiting time was not long and that to me is important. The waiter, Lulu, provided great selections from the menu and even gave us recommendations. We ordered a Paella with chicken and chorizo and boy was I in for a surprise. The paella was hot and delicious! The rice was cooked to perfection and overall had an assortment of fantastic flavors. As per the menu, the dish serves from 2-6 people. In my party we were 4 and each served ourselves 2 dishes and still had left overs (Note: paella's do take 30 minutes of preparation since it requires special handling - all worth it though.) Lulu, also suggested for us to try one of their specialty wines and so we ordered a bottle (excellent wine choice btw.) The atmosphere is chic and Spanish. Ole! The display of the wines and meats is fantastic and truly makes the experience memorable. The service was overall great and will definitely continue coming to Tabernilla. 5 star service! read more

I always try to be kind, I did not understand what I was walking into. I thought it was a Mexican steak house and was excited. Well I ordered the steak. Only one on menu. It was not what I would expect for a restaurant of this stature. I ate quickly and left. I do have to say that one of the staff did take time to explain the menu to me. The setting is nice and if I was looking for the correct service this restaurant provides I may have been better experience. Usually enjoy this place when in Laredo but this experience not so good .. ugh I love this place. Calamari was less than good, very chewy and was stringing like spaghetti lol , the croustinis were almost burnt so any tapa tasted like the burnt bread , I pointed it out to waitress and she said oh yeah sometimes that happens and smiles walked away , . I am unsure about the service anymore although the manger is great and kept asking me if ok. I didn't tell him about bread Only to see if the lady at the bar working on 8/17 at 7pm would inform him and apparently she didn't. Honestly all I taste now is burnt bread lol . My wife had her 40th birthday party and I wanted to do something nice. I spoke with the head chef and he showed me how to reheat the rice and explained that the rice is actually better the second day, but the proteins don't hold up as well. So he showed me how to cook the shrimp so they were fresh and warm up the rice covered in the oven. He gave me the paella pans to heat it with because the party was on a Sunday and they're closed sundays. I can't even begin to express to you how impressed everyone was with the paella and presentation of it in the pans. The level of customer service and desire to help me make my wife's birthday special makes this place absolutely fantastic. Good people, good food, good presentation. I loved it. Was in Laredo for the weekend. I love tacos, fajitas and all Mexican food that the town has to offer. This Saturday afternoon my friend and I felt like something different. Tabernilla is definitely different. As soon as you enter the front door you are transported to Spain, for a two hour vacation. I thought about seating next to the beautiful mature lady at the bar but opted for a table. First we snacked on olives and cheese. Then had the garlic shrimp, the white bean soup, meatballs.
