Just discovered this hidden gem. Reasonable prices, good food and wine, interesting decor. Only negative, it is in a sketchy neighborhood in the historic district. My friend is from Laredo, so she knew the area well, but it looked very scary to me. Usually they have someone monitoring the blocks around the restaurant. They are only open a few days a week. This place is a hidden gem. Its a hole in the wall tapas bar in the rough side of town. Great place to have a drink, but bad place to have a meal. Ive been there 6-8 times but have only ordered food twice. The first was a big disappointment, but I gave it another chance recently since the first time I ordered they had recently opened. Well, let me tell you what, the second time was a big disappointment, too. We ordered the jamón serrano and cheese tapa plate first. The portion was minuscule paper thin slice of jamon and manchego. Barely enough for a one, but no way for a couple. Next the paella showed up. It was lackluster and flavorless with them having no clue of what the national dish of Spain should consist of. The rice was bland without a hint of saffron color or smoked paprika, garlic, parsley etc. The dish was missing lots of flavor along with lots of missing seafood, pork and chicken. I didn't get a picture because of the dim lighting but it didnt merit a picture. Also, the waiter didnt give us bread to go with the paella. What kind of Spanish restaurant doent give bread with the paella. The sangria is good and the atmosphere is decent for being Laredo. I'll be back for sangria but I'll have dinner before going there again. Salud! read more

Wow. Mix bag here. We showed up here for Vday and place didn't look like much from outside. You'd mistake it as an abandoned warehouse. Luckily they realize this and they had security guards with flash lights that direct you to parking and let you know your in the right place. When you get to door and open you are wowed in a very positive way. When you walk it's very authentic. I'd give decor a 1,000,000 out of 10. Ive been to Spain and this place has that feel. Aside from decor it all Went down hill. I'll warn you for what seemed like a well staffed place the speed here was slow. Our appetizer was literally four slices of cheese and two slices of cured ham. It took literally 45 minutes to come out. Our dinner total of 4 courses with Paella with seafood, chicken and pork was highlight. It was good but everything was okay. Nothing was bad which is why I gave 3 stars plus decor and ambience. (Great live music) if you want a 5 experience? Honestly. Eat a good meal and come and have nothing else to do and enjoy live dancing or music and have low expectations on service but when I compare this against Tabernilla locally in Jacman and Loop 20 Tabernilla is 1,000 times better. What makes it better is service and also mainly filling tapas. I get tapas is tapas--I've had it in Spain, California and NYC but Tabernilla does it right. Anyways. This place can be so much more. Crowd here has the typical Border Foundry crowd. Waiter never asked how we were and filled our drinks...just sad. Edit: wow management makes fake accounts to lift their rating. Sad. Visiting Laredo - Wow, what a terrific place hidden in Laredo, TX. I felt transported to Madrid, Spain. Great selection of adult beverages, Tapas menu was excellent, and just the vibe was something that will have me coming back for sure. I came here on a recommendation from my hotel. Thank you! What a lovely place.....from the incredibly attentive staff to the delicious Spanish inspired tapas. This is a family owned and operated tapas bar set in a lovely c 1800s warehouse just west of downtown and modeled after the world's oldest restaurant, Restaurant el Botin, in Madrid. Inside it's tastefully restored with exposed brick and a beautiful big hardwood bar. The live entertainment made for an evening to remember. Note: when we arrived to the location based on my GPS, there was no sign outside. If not for the previous post I read about the obscure location I wouldn't know it was there. Look for the security guard outside the door. He'll direct you. read more
