I thought I was going to enjoy this establishment. It had many five-star reviews at the time. After about a 10-15 minute wait at our table, the waitress came to our table and greeted us. I initially wanted to try their lamb chops- they were sold out. So I decided to try their salmon plate. For the price tag, I thought it would be comparable to their competitors. The salmon was dry and overcooked with no real flavor. I have tasted better salmon preseasoned and boxed at Costco's frozen food aisle. The experience was a disappointment, but only because I drove there with high expectations from the reviews I read. This used to be my favorite to go spot for lunch. I've always ordered the salmon due to my pescatarian dietary choices. The last couple of times I've ordered from here, have been very disappointing, with the only thing having flavor, are the olives. We just found this Gem! To say the food was delicious is a understatement. It was amazing. We started with the Zaharah (Cauliflower) so yummy. Then we had the the Taboon mix grill, the Kebabs were so tender and flavorful. I got a side of Tzatziki and we also got the Lentil soup... this was so creamy and delicious... Word of the day here DELICIOUS!!! Dennis the Mennis our server was so helpful and nice huge smile. Fresh, authentic Middle Eastern food, with a great selection of vegetarian options. Taboon offers a varied menu of Arab classics like Kebab, Shwarma, Falafel, and vegetable/grain based salads. They are currently open for takeout and delivery during the pandemic. If you are vegetarian, I recommend ordering one of their Mezza options. This allows you to try small portions of multiple dishes, alongside or atop pita bread and rice. I opted for the Taboon Cold Mezza, which comes with rich, tahini packed hummus, savory babaganoush, assorted pickles, and salad. Everything was flavorful and satisfying, without being overly heavy. The Zahrah was bitter, and overly oily. Avoid this dish. The Cucumber Yogurt was bland as an accompaniment-get the Labneh instead (it is excellent). My boyfriend found the Chicken Kebab to be very dry. Regardless, we liked everything else so much that we look forward to ordering again, and trying new dishes next time (their housemade Baklava looks incredible!) read more

My family and a friend group went to Taboon for dinner for the first time and were so pleased with our experience. My husband and I love Mediterranean and have always stuck with our usual local option, so we were pleasantly surprised to try this place. Food was delicious, tasted authentic (loved the cauliflower, the chicken skewers, and I haven't had better tahini and baba ghanoush). Came in to order takeout for the first time almost two weeks ago and had some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had around Long Beach and surrounding areas. My family and I really enjoyed our meal and even raved about it to our family and friends. Having enjoyed so much we decided to go for round two a few days later so my wife stopped by and ordered the same thing except this time she substituted grape leaves (dolma) for the hummus. What happened? I do not know. I think they froze it and forgot to thaw it and just served us some weird half frozen ones. The rest of our meal was amazing but we were very dissatisfied with their dolma. Hopefully it was just a one time mistake thing and we get better stuffed grape leaves next time. read more

What a charming restaurant! I met a friend here and we were able to dine inside. The lamb kebab entrée plate was wonderful, as was the hot Mediterranean tea I had with my meal. I wish they gave more of the white garlic sauce with the meal. Unfortunately, the baklava was dry and seemed to be about a day old; it was just off enough to be noticeably not fresh. The flies that came through the front door were irritating, but I understand that it may be difficult to keep them out while trying to keep the front door open for Covid-19 reasons. No complaints about the service; our server was attentive while giving us our space to talk and enjoy our lunch. I would definitely return to try more of the menu! read more

This place hits the spot! I'm glad they offer outdoor dining with all these COVID precautions. It's nice to be able to sit down for lunch or do take out. The staff is really great, and the food is even better. Their meats are cooked to perfection every time. Just proceed with caution with this place, because their garlic sauce is CRAZY good. My go-to meals are the Hummus with Beef Shawarma (it's big enough for me and my kids to share), and the Mix Grill Plate (I never share this though lol). Maybe we ordered the wrong thing but it was just MEH. Beef kabob and chicken shawarma plate. It's covid and we ordered to-go so I guess I can give them a break of the shawarma being on top of the rice. But, it became all mixed together. In the pix, this plate is served differently. There were two kinds of rice. I couldn't find the flavors on their menu to understand the two types of rice. I don't know if it was really flavorful because my chicken was mixed in with the rice. Sigh. Beef kabobs weren't too exciting. The veggies were meh also. Salad sucked I've had much better salad. Sorry. Hummus and garlic sauce were good. The garlic potatoes were bad. We were confused. Dry potatoes with some sauce at the bottom of the container? It was like breakfast potatoes with sauce. And for $8? Goodness. My husband and I read the yelp reviews, saw the photos and thought we'd give it a try. When we arrived, a few people were seated outside. We chose to sit inside because of the heat. There was only one table filled and we were led to the very back, near the kitchen. Odd. When seated we noticed the overall temperature was warm inside --it did not feel like there was air conditioning running. As we waited for our water to arrive, my eye scanned the ambiance of this place. It felt a little off. Across from us to our left, there was a table set up stacked with an abundance of glasses and plates. Tacky. Looking directly up from there was a TV facing the employees counter. Tacky. The kitchen had a swinging door so you could see some of what was going on. We could hear a loud blender running (off and on through our entire meal). The noise affected our conversation. Employees were putting orders together for take out at an open counter. Next to it, a very small bar area. Looking up, lovely Turkish lamps. Problem: each lamp had a light bulb out. Tacky. The front door is left open for the waiters serving on the front patio. Unfortunately with that came gnats and flies to our table which affected our dining experience. It was pretty annoying trying to shoo them away our entire sitting. I must say our waiter was a pleasant, attentive guy. Now onto the food. Appetizer 1: Fried Cauliflower smothered in tahini sauce, tasty-- next time I'd order with sauce on the side. Appetizer 2: Babaganoush -- It was meh, we've had better. Overall our main meals were enjoyable, but the biggest disappointment for both of us was the salad that came with the meal. The dressing was bland and choice of lettuce was not the standard spring greens we get at competing restaurants. We spent around $80. Overall, we expected a nicer, more pleasant dining experience based on the Yelp photos. Not sure we'll be back. read more

I go here A LOT. For my employer's lunch and for mine. The food and the people are awesome. Always great service. Everyone is super friendly and there to please. As for the food, I love their lamb kabobs. It's not gamey; it's well seasoned and tender. I adore their mixed pickles, too. Their rice dishes are good as well. They're never dry or feel stale/old like some places I've eaten. The Royal Mezza is quite large and enough for 3 people with a hearty appetite, or 4-5 as appetizers.
