They are so-called Whisky Bar... but I seriously doubt their knowledge about liquors…read more Here's what happened. My friend ordered a Hendrick's Ginger Ale and I ordered a pint of Asahi. The staff nodded, repeated the order, and got us two drinks. My friend was probably being too nice to not point out that the Hendrick's Ginger Ale was too light in Hendrick's and too much in ginger ale. But hey, now that we finished the first round of drinks, why didn't we order another round anyway, while waiting for another friend to come, before we headed to our dinner? Perfect, let me order a Hendrick's Tonic. "Sorry?" "Hendrick's. As in the gin." "So you want Gin Tonic?" Said the staff, who wasn't as confused when he took our first order. "Yes, but with this specific brand of Gin called Hendrick's." "Let me check if we have it..." "But it's on the menu?" I pointed at the menu, where clearly showing they did serve Hendrick's. "Oh right, surely." My friend now wondered if she really got a Hendrick's Ginger Ale. Oh yeah, you know that answer already when you are reading this, but we had to wait until the bill came to confirm. I'd have given them a 2-star if it's not a newly opened bar. Also, I asked for the address of the place (so that I could send to my friends coming over). Apparently it wasn't on any of their drink menu or leaflets. They didn't have a business card either. And they ended up giving me the receipt of some other table which finally got their address. Well, they had a big arse TV just happened to show Janet Hsieh on TLC. That got some of my very subjective points.

The only reason I'm giving this place one star is for their basket of chips (or fries/thick potato…read moreslices) and many TV screens broadcasting live sports. Otherwise everything else is just downright awful. My friend ordered a pot of Earl Grey tea (Twinings) because he didn't want to start drinking alcohol too early in the afternoon. When we asked them to refill the tea pot with hot water, they sternly replied, "Oh, we don't do refills." First, RUDE. Second, if you're charging $44 for a SMALL pot of tea, we'd better be getting a refill. Yes you may be wondering why we're having tea at a sports bar, but if they can't even provide proper and FAIR customer service at a non-alcoholic level, they shouldn't even in business. How about a glass of hot water instead? My friend went to inquire about hot water. Oh sorry, they don't offer hot water either. At first, I thought they were kidding. So I went around back to the bathroom, and afterwards, asked a waitress who was manning a electric water kettle if I could have a glass of water. You know what she said? "I'm sorry, we don't have hot water." And I pointed out the electric water kettle right in front of me, "But you're boiling hot water right now!" "That's for tea. If you want hot water, you can order hot lemon tea, which costs $39--" HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU OFFER HOT TEA BUT NOT HOT WATER?! ARE YOU THAT STINGY?! IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AT ALL. About an hour later, I asked for some tap water to accompany my beer. They brought an glass of ice water with lemon. How nice, I thought. A slice of lemon too? How considerate of them. But too much ice and not enough water left me asking for a refill. "Can I have some more water please?" I asked politely. "Oh sorry, our boss does not allow us to give out water. You have to buy bottled water." WHAT THE HECK?! Absolutely the worst restaurant/bar experience I have ever had in HK, let alone, in the whole entire world. Poor service. Oh and the fries? They were nice and crisp at the start, but livable without. I would gladly pay for fries elsewhere but The Doghouse. Am I returning? Never in a million years.

The TVs always have a rugby or Australian Rules Football match and the menu has some favorites from down under. The patrons and staff are friendly and the seating layout is good. But that's where it ends. The food is very unsatisfactory in taste, texture and temperature. And speaking of temperature, this is the first bar I ever went to in Hong Kong with no air conditioning. Hard to look pretty when you're sweating like Niagara Falls! There are far too many bars in Wan Chai to settle for bad food and uncomfortable temperature.

A nice place to relax with friends after work; also suitable for couples. There is a wide variety of Scotch, Japanese whisky and cocktails. They got Scotch like Scapa and Caol Ila which are not very commonly seen in bars in the area. The price is reasonable, most of them are of around HK$100 for a single shot. We arrived around 1030, after dinner in a restaurant nearby. It was our first visit and the experience is nice. We were served by a Japanese bartender who is friendly and helpful. We had some beer, whisky and cocktails: Suntory Premium Malt on tap, B+ Creamy and rich. Of course much fresher than the bottle / can one. Hong Kong Cooler, A-: A vodka based cocktail with some citrus, ginger ale and ... jasmine tea? A very refreshing drink. Scotch Manhattan, A (*caution: this grading is only suitable for Islay lovers. Forget it if you hate peaty stuff): The bartender recommended this when I told him I love Islay and wanted a strong cocktail. Basically Ardberg 10 with Vermouth. The peaty Ardberg and the sweet vermouth match perfectly. One of the best cocktails I have ever tried.

Lobster Bar is special. Not only is it located in Island Shangri-La hotel (which screams high end customer service), but Lobster Bar takes unique great pride in their establishment as a Taj Mahal of crafted cocktails in Hong Kong. A friend of mine back in Las Vegas told me that this bar was on a Top 10 list she recently read about. Being a full time martini drinker who takes a vacation from my beverage of choice in the summer time, I was blown away by my experience with their crafted cocktails at Lobster Bar last night. The ambiance of the Lobster Bar that spills into the well-appointed Lobster Grill is welcoming. Light blues, detailed stained glass windows, hard woods, maroons, great lighting...everything is there to enjoy your time at the bar or in one of their comfy couches. After ordering our two drinks, be prepared for a little wait time. Not because the bartender is busy with throngs of customers, but because of the time, care and preparation that goes into making these special concoctions. Really quite special a special craft. We enjoyed a Genever Smash and a Lemon Sherbet Bishop. Order a drink, take a sip and then ask to relook at the drink menu to see the ingredients. The ingredients and flavors come to life when you see them and then consume them at the same time. I realize that booze is a time old tradition shared by millions across the world. Lobster Bar is special and a twist to this tradition. You can get a drink anywhere, but do yourself a favor and go to Lobster Bar and order one of their crafted cocktails. It will be a drink you will not soon forget!

Hostile Management Ruined a Professional Group Event…read more We visited last night after calling ahead the day before and being explicitly told no booking was needed for a large group. Yet, when we arrived with 12 directors and professionals on a quiet Monday night, the restaurant was almost empty, and the manager immediately told us off for not booking. He talked down to me, avoided eye contact, and made us feel entirely insignificant. We tried to have a calm conversation and mentioned we were spending money on a two-hour social gathering, but he restricted us to sit in the corner and strictly ordered us not to mingle with his patrons. He flatly stated he didn't care about our money, only his 'regulars.' To make matters worse, they forgot one of our food orders, and some of the food we did receive was subpar. It's a shame because the floor staff were sweet and kind, but hospitality starts from the top. I have never felt more unwelcome and treated with such hostility at an establishment. Avoid this place! Wasn't in the mood to take a picture I'm afraid.

Located along the main stretch of where LKF partygoers gather on D'Aguilar, Insomnia has maintained a long standing reputation as an easy destination for live music and a never ending 24 hour bar scene. The interior is quite good for all sorts of occasions. There is an outdoor area with a separate bar and an indoor area that has a massive stage equipped with lights, speakers, and mic stands. It might be the most elaborate setup I've seen for a bar at this size. As a result, the live music here is probably the best I've seen in LKF. The nightly Filipino cover band deserves some serious kudos. Like all things in these parts of LKF, the drinks are expensive. Average cocktail goes for 100+HKD and roughly half off during Happy Hour. The food isn't much to write about, more folks are here for the ambiance than the bites. I've been here when it was both dead with no one inside and packed to the gills (typically the weekend). When it's crowded, this place is extremely hit or miss. There is only so much body bumping and middle aged people dancing awkwardly that one can take. When the weeknight crowd is light, this is a fantastic place to chill and appreciate some quality music. Service is somewhere between fast / efficient to terribly mean. The Filipino staff is courteous, but they can get feisty with the drunkards at the bar. Beware of the whack men's room, the urine odor is on full blast at night. Staying in the back has its drawbacks. At the very least the intense air conditioning and high energy performances from the band make checking this place out a worthy cause. I wish I could say the same for the rest of LKF.

Behind a phone booth in a bar that's in a hotel... coolness…read more This one gets initial points for the coolness of getting into a phone booth -- kids, this is what we used in the old days to make phone calls when we were away from home and wanted to talk to someone. There was no such thing as "texting." -- the process with the keypad and curtain/door entryway is nice and sets the stage. The interior of this bar is pretty small, as it should be, IMO. The bar is well stocked and they have a nice selection of drinks and food on the menu. Since we'd just come from a large banquet, we weren't in the mood for food, but this looked to be a place where you could get some good stuff to go with your drinks. I had a "Shark," which has butter-infused rum. After reading that, I *had* to try it. It had an interesting creaminess and a finish of browned butter. The drink was a bit on the sour side, but the creaminess almost balanced it out enough for me. It was a drink that I enjoyed, but would probably try something different next time. I tend to prefer more spirit-forward drinks that are less sour, but wanted something different since I'd just had that at the previous place. The decor is interesting here: a rabbit with a double-barreled shotgun? I'm not sure what that is about, but it gave us something to look at :) Our server was attentive and helpful and the drinks didn't seem to be more expensive than the drinks at the outer Mo Bar. I'm a fan of speakeasies, although, these days, it is hard to find many that are actually *quiet* ... I think that is a lost part of the whole concept, which is a shame since I think that part of the experience makes it even more of a contrast to the noise of your typical bar.

We had a bit of a whirlwind, chaotic situation in the beginning... miscommunications with waitresses at MO Bar regarding reservations and pricings... plus it is NYE, everything gets chaotic anyway. But looking past that, the experience inside PDT was fantastic - our server was very friendly and courteous :) I really enjoyed the Evening Star cocktail, the one with the starfruit! It was light, sweet, and easy to drink - a plum and sake based cocktail :) The Old Fashioned was pretty dang strong too. We also ordered waffle friesss... OMG, best fries ever, when you are tipsy lmao. Not recommended for large groups... the booths are small and very limited. We were a group of 5 and we were comfortable. The other table had like 8 people... good luck there. I don't think you can make a reservation, it is first come, first serve. It is a nice place take someone on a date tho ;) Overall, 4.5 stars - minus that little blip with MO Bar waitresses. smh.
