Been going to Taboo for years. Biggs is one of the most talented artists in Dallas, and has done almost all of my sleeve work. I don't live in Dallas any more, but always recommend him and his shop. The reviews online help get you a sense for places you'd like to visit, but your best bet is to actually go down to the shop, meet the artists, look at their work, talk to them, and make a decision for yourself. Not every artist does the same style of work, and only you can decide who's right for you. Taboo is a great establishment with great artists. I hadn't been to Taboo in about 10 years when I stopped by last Thursday to see if they had time for a walk-in. There were a couple walk-ins in front of me for tattoos and piercings, but they had 2 artists working that were taking only walk-ins that night, which was super fucking cool. I gave my drawing of the simple piece I wanted, the counter girl gave me a price, and then I waited around for about an hour before being inked. Chelsi did my piece and she was incredibly friendly and a very clean, fast artist. She also is an artist that uses Saniderm to cover pieces afterwards. And if you haven't had a piece wrapped in Saniderm yet, I highly recommend trying it out. It takes a lot of the worry about aftercare out of your hands so you can just unwrap it in a week and go from there. No fuss. After chatting pieces with Chelsi and the other artist, Kendall, I think that I'll start using Taboo for all of my small pieces that I'm filling my legs out with. It's great to see that Taboo hasn't lost a beat since I had my back piece done there 10 years ago. Highly recommended for both the experienced, and the novices. read more

My wife and I were looking to get tattoos recently. While eating lunch in Deep Ellum we happened to call Taboo Tattoo. They said they could take us immediately so we finished lunch and headed right over. We explained what we wanted - Tim drew up my wife's and was working on her almost immediately. Need a piercing done? Go to Taboo. Go to Tim. He did my first piercing when I was 18, and no one has pierced me since (I've gotten a total of 10 piercings from him). He knows what he is doing, he is very clean, and very nice. His knowledge astounds me every time. I have never EVER had an issue with a piercing. I just follow his instruction, and let him check up on them every couple of weeks, and my babies are all good! I send everyone I know here because they will be in good hands. So as for Taboo, there is no better place to get a piercing. On the Tattoo side of the spectrum, they are, in my opinion, inconsistent with their pricing. Something small can cost you $150, where as something larger with more detail could cost you $120. It may or may not depend on the artist, but oh well. Every artist is talented and very clean. Chris, Biggs, and Ronnie are my favorites. They have decades of experience between them, and are just cool as hell! The owner is a sweetheart too. She is nice, but keeps her business in line, which I totally respect! read more

I went in and it wasn't busy. I decided to get a tattoo and asked for Carlos but they told me he was busy (he was not busy and had 0 customers. Yes he confirmed this) so instead they gave me Chelsea. She went around telling her co workers that she was going to rush my tattoo not caring if it came out like crap because she hated doing tattoos like the one I got (also confirmed) and sure enough, it came out like crap. What kind of tattoo artist does that?? They have been trying to take away carlos' customers for a while now and that's so wrong. If you get a tattoo from this place, ask for Carlos. I was looking for a place to get my nose pierced while I was visiting my family in Dallas and decided on this place. I was greeted immediately by the front desk. He helped me right away, informing me that the basic stud (with no crystal) was $40 and a stud with a crystal was $60, they also offer hoops but I did not ask how much that was. I was planning on paying with card, but he said it had to be cash so he directed me to a handy ATM machine they have inside where you can pull money. Timmy pierced my nose and he was welcoming and cracking jokes. He definitely knew what he was doing. I was nervous, but Timmy assured me he "wasn't in the business of making me look bad." The piercing itself I knew was going to hurt, and yes I teared up a little bit, but that's normal when you have a needle go through your nose. I'm very pleased with the service and the results. Horrible piercing, I came in one evening after hanging out with friends. I used to come back then when another guy was doing piercings but I think he is gone and no longer works there. Tim was the guy that was doing my piercing. he was in the middle of a drawing a tattoo so he was already pretty mad that he had to stop what he was doing to do this piercing. as I sat in the chair he deadass just got my ear barely cleaned it and made a mark after that he said get up and check it. after I told him I wanted it lower, instead of showing me how it would look he instantly just pierced the ear. not only did he not clean the area good after writing on my ear all these other marks but he pierced it without notice after that he told me "okay you need to stop drinking water cause that can kill you" because I was bleeding a lot!!!! WATER!! KILL ME??? so after that I left pretty upset cause the whole way home I was bleeding and after taking really good care of it, it's now been a week and it got infected. DONT COME HERE!!! My husband and I were searching for a place yesterday in the Dallas area to get artwork done. With him being a "tattoo virgin", and me being picky, we sat out on our journey to find the perfect place. Taboo Tattoo in Deep Ellum was the first place we went to, and it was love at first sight. The building is so clean and decorative. The size of it made it that much more assuring for me. The man who runs the front desk was so personable. He was VERY nice, and made my husband and I feel very comfortable about our decision after answering many of our questions honestly. We didnt have an appt, and were walk ins, so I was skeptical about the time that would given on the draw up, and the amount of time that would be spent to give us the depth of the be artwork we wanted.Needless to say, the draw up was given an accurate amount of time, and energy, as was the time spent on perfecting the artwork as well. Cyle Corse did both mine and my husbands tattoos. He did an amazing job on the draw up. His portfolio was astonishing. And more importantly, he spent most of his day making sure we were both happy with our piece, and absolutely went above and beyond to make them look better than even we had expected! Cyle was such a professional, and so charismatic and easy to talk to. By the time we left, we felt like we had made a new friend, and knew that this would be the person and place we would be returning to for our next tattoos, although we live 2 1/2 hours away. Ive had several tattoos at several different locations, with several different artists. I have never felt so comfortable, clean and "at home" before. When I turned 18, I knew I wanted to get a tattoo, but I had no clue how to pick a good tattoo parlor or artist. All I wanted was a small bow on the back of my neck. My friend's mother recommended Chris at Taboo Tattoo after she had gotten some small lettering on her wrist done. I went to the parlor in July of 2009 and was impressed by the large, clean foyer. I asked for Chris and told him what I wanted. He sketched out the cutest bow, and it looked exactly how I wanted it. He transfered the image onto the back of my neck, still perfect. He then tattooed it, using completely sterile equipment, individually wrapped new needles and all. He took his time, and it was well worth it. I now have a tattoo that was everything I wanted. The linework is incredibly perfect, and the color blends amazingly. I would recommend Chris to anyone, and the books from the other tattoo artists at the parlor looked quite impressive too. read more

All I got was some royal blue roman numerals down my calf. Given it was down my entire calf which is decently long, I feel like I was over charged a bit. It looks great and the artist, Biggs, was really cool... plus this thing is going to last a lifetime and they touch-up for free. All together, when you spread out the $50 they MIGHT have overcharged over the length of my lifetime... it really isn't that big of a deal. I'm glad I got a good quality thing on my skin. read more

I went here to get my first tattoo. I was really nervous, but the people there were extremely nice. The lady up front addressed me right when I walked in and I told her I wanted a tattoo. She asked me what I wanted and I showed her, and we figured out the size together, and she gave me the price of 180. It was a little expensive for what I wanted, but not more than I thought it would be, so I agreed and paid up front. I waited for about 10 minutes, and then my artist called me to the back. I had Chris. He could tell I was super nervous, and he reassured me and made me feel tons better. He let my friends sit with me through the whole process, and he played his music at a good volume. He was quiet a lot of the time, but was always asking if I was alright (which I was) and sometimes he even joined in our conversations. He was super nice and I had a fantastic first tattoo experience! The tattoo looks better than I ever could have imagined! Taboo Tattoo in deep ellum and bishop arts district are the only two places I go. Its family run an always a fun experience. ive gotten small and large tattoos from Cody Biggs, he knows exactly what hes doing, because hes been doing it forever. This isn't a hobby for him, you can tell this is his life as he clearly devotes all his time to you and your tattoo. I went into several other shops when I first started looking. I had no visible tattoos at the time and I felt that I was looked down upon and turned away due to me not having any sleeves or face tats. As soon as I walked into taboo, I was immediately acknowledged and felt welcomed. I had all my questions answered, and felt that Cody was there to help and inform me rather than just making it quick and getting me out the door. I always mention his name when recommending to any friends that ask for tattoos, and if anyone asks for some piercings I always route them to Tim. He knows more about his profession than anyone I know. Cody Biggs has made an astonishing name for himself across the states, I have mentioned his name and shop to other artist and they immediately know who im talking about and also have nothing but great things to say about him. I agree with the prices that I get due to the experience of the staff. Don't forget you don't have to pass certain tests or complete obstacles to open up or start tattooing. If you're concerned about the price and wanting to pay the cheapest amount you might being getting some guy who has no experience and is technically practicing on you. Clean, comfortable, and spacious place. Got there early Sat. nite with no clear vision of what I wanted. Pretty girl manning the front was very nice and pleasant. Matt L. asked what i wanted and took me to his area and showed me some designs and quoted me a price. paperwork done, he spent an hour or so on the needle and in a zone, which I actually prefer then idle chit-chat I see sometimes with other artists. i went to this shop for one artist and one artist only, he doesn't work there anymore and I'm proud of him for not taking their shit anymore! For one they lie, i called for an appointment when my guy was there and the receptionist said they did not take appointments so i walk in and guess what, he had an appointment. so i had to go to another artist and his work is good but way overly priced like ridiculous! My guy worked 2 1/2 hours on my left side for $250 and this guy just did one thing took 45 mins and charged me $300 (less ink,less time and they wanted $400 originally) totally didn't say a word to me and my guy is awesome and talked to me the whole time. I accept paying more for a good tattoo, i just paid $600 for my guy to my other side and it is awesome! so no this shop sucks, they over charge and do not care about the customer they just want money. Plus has anyone seen their health license??? no yea cause they don't have one. i will never tell someone to go here ever again! read more

My friend came to visit and wanted to get a tattoo so we went to a few places before settling on Taboo Tattoo to get her inked. I had been in a few other shops before and was really impressed with the knowledge of the artists, even the guy running the register was able to answer every question she had and gave her a really honest consultation about what she wanted. After a short wait we went back. She was really concerned about how her skin would fare with the tattoo. As a red head with really sensitive skin, she couldn't even get her eyebrows waxed without swelling, discoloration, bleeding and it being an overall disaster. But all of her fears quickly went away. There wasn't even redness. The artist was so nice, had a light hand and did an amazing job. While we originally felt they charged her more than it was worth, we changed out mind after seeing the work which was well worth the money. read more

I drove down here to get my first tattoos because I know several people who have had good experiences in this shop. I was a little anxious since it was my first tattoo, but they took great care of me! I wanted to get my grandma's name and the first part of a song lyric on the inside of my right bicep, and her date of birth, date of death, and the second half of the lyric on the inside of my left. Right as I was telling the girl at the desk what I wanted, a new artist named Cyle came in and said he would do it right then. He had just moved there from New Mexico, but he showed me his work and it was very good. He took an hour to sketch it up and put it on a stencil, and it looked AMAZING. He was quick and steady, took a break in between the two tattoos, bandaged them up, and it was done in about three hours total. I absolutely love my tattoos, and will be returning to Taboo if I ever want more work done. Everyone in the shop was really cool, funny, and courteous. I would definitely recommend Taboo Tattoo to anyone looking for a clean shop with great artists. Loved the purple couches too! ;) read more
