The bread was amazingg and we both enjoyed our food. I don't believe they do birthdays but they got me a little cheesecake with a candle on a plate with chocolate saying happy birthday. Seriously surprised by the good reviews as our experience was just short of walking out. We will start by not being able to find the place based on the fact their logo is pale, the number 59 is divided by a ribbon of other words. We remembered DiCiccios (sp?) used to be that spot, so wa-la! If it hadn't been for that, we would never have found them. Two quiet little open signs decorate the side windows and all the doors and windows are foiled up, no light gets through. Once inside, fresh paint smacks you in the face. Nice. Seated in one of their booths with a friend, no problem. Ordering, no problem. The bread, once probably 4" tall had been cut, smashed, squished down to a brief1". The chef needs a bread knife, people. The aroma of the bread made up for the impacted dough that quickly turned cold and hard. Ok, then comes the salads. Romaine is good, but it could use some complimentary greens. Blah bleu cheese. Then comes the entrees, two chicken marsalas, one linguini and clams. My chicken was so tough i could not cut it let alone fork it, and returned it promptly. Loving salmon, I thought I would give that a try. Nope. Chefs of America? Do NOT cook salmon with thyme. Just don't do it. The staff get a half a point for taking my meals off the bill, I went home to grab some left overs while I type this up. Another half a point for seriously nice silverware which is immediately taken away by the raw can't-be-eaten vegetables. If i can't fork the broccoli, I am not going to be able to eat it. Hub said on the way home that while his chicken was softer than mine, the taste was horrendous. Keep in mind his nickname is Micky, he'll eat anything. Our friend did say her meal was, "Ok" but the teensy clams, well, were not enough to soothe her appetite. We rate restaurants, and this gets a minus points for food, ease of locating, bread, plus for silverware, removing bad food from the bill. Service gets zero as it was as expected. Minus 1. We visited on Valentine's Day. Party of 6 (romantic huh?) We were seated quickly and got attention immediately. Esmeralda was amazing, we never had to remind her of any forgotten items and she accommodated all our requests. All the orders were completed, and the people in our party that ordered their steaks incorrectly were taken care of with no judgement. Just ate dinner here again. I had the New York strip and it was cooked perfectly. My wife had the steak and chicken combo. She loved it. Adrian was our server and was excellent! Very welcoming entry and greeting. Interior decor very nice. You can always tell if a restaurant is good by their iced tea. This restaurant had very good tea. The soup was delicious, the bread warm, the entrees did not disappoint. Hubby had the calzone and I the shrimp trio. Our food was served hot and stayed warm through the meal. Delicious and generous servings. The side veggies accompanying my entree were very good and fresh, I even brought the left overs home, and I don't usually eat my veggies. Would definitely recommend. I came to Table59 for lunch and it was perfect. The service was fast and the food was delicious. I ordered the spinach salad with the raspberry vinaigrette and the zoodles. I asked the waitress to leave out the bacon from the salad as I don't eat meat and it was perfect. Table 59 is not in the mainstream of restaurants in any sense of that term: It is exceptional in most every way. Wonderful array of foods with extra fine service and great ambience. The place is quite clean, even after watching a table full of small children who did what kids do - put food wherever it lands. I was in the restaurant world for about 25 years, from Hawai'i to the east coast to England, and I find the food delicious and the service better than any other restaurant at which I have eaten on a regular basis in Merced. The owner, Adrian, and staff are genuinely kind, open to accommodating special diets, and making small changes to whatever is asked of them. This is not just when they are not busy, but in their busiest times they are prompt, service-oriented and professional in both demeanor and technique. The prices are fair, and the food is cooked exactly as requested and is delicious, well-prepared, and abundant. I'm now there on a regular basis. I will be going back on a regular basis. The service was good but the food was terrible and overpriced. Ordered the calamari appetizer and it was frozen breaded calamari rings, not even freshly made. The Alfredo sauce was bland with no flavor. I ordered the Italian chopped salad and it had no pepperoncinis in it and it has maybe 2 pieces of salami chopped up and 1 artichoke heart, for $14 it was bad mostly lettuce. I ordered Ravioli because I missed my grandmother's Italian food. She catered Italian food and back in the 1950's, Governor Brown's father, Pat Brown who was Governor then, became over to my grandmother's house 3 times a year to eat there. No one could cook Italian food like her (Celano's Catering Service). She passed away in 1971, but the food was good. I liked the ravioli, salad, and coffee. My only complaint is that I wanted to eat more ravioli. The sauce was the best one in Merced. read more

I was torn about sharing our experience at Table59, so it has been a 5 day delay since we patronized this restaurant. I ordered the shrimp and beef and wife had the New York steak. We both had baked potato. Sadly, my sirloin was so tough that despite asking for and receiving a sharper knife, I was still unable to cut it into bite size pieces(took it home and cut it up with sharp knife, and discovered that the bite size pieces were excessively chewy and shot through with inedible membranes and gristle) The shrimp was adequate, the baked potato appeared to have been sitting out for too long as the condiments were dehydrated...the salad was OK. Appeared to be understaffed. We may try it again sometime in the future, but I won't wait five days to point out deficiencies...happy 75th birthday to me! read more

Visited Merced for the evening before going to the town's quaint but beautiful performance theatre and stumbled upon Table 59. Huge clean space, nicely decorated, wait staff was very friendly and on point. A few other patrons at 6 o'clock dinner and after having our meals we now understand why. Our party of four all ordered differently and all of us didn't finish our meals. We felt like Robert Irvine on an episode of Restaurant Impossible, the food was less than desirable. You could tell and taste that not much was being in house made, but rather heated and assembled from a can or frozen. To be fair we all ordered Italian food and it just wasn't good, we did see a plate go by with steak & chicken, mashed potatoes and vegetables that didn't look awful. This place definitely has potential if whomever is running it would invest in making and serving freshly made food. Anyone can heat up frozen meatballs and a can of sauce along with a grocery store french bread loaf. I challenge this restaurant owner to find someone that can really cook, create a menu that highlights their skills and would be excited to come back some time. read more
