Pricy spot but excellent. It's small and homey but quite a bit nicer in all ways than we expected. Entrees around $31 and steaks $50ish. Staff nice. Locals, some with kids were nice. Seafood lovers and steak lovers would expect to be happy. But spicy food lovers try the salmon. But ask for it to be cooked to your liking. Mine was way too rare and I don't recall being asked a preference. But with that caveat this is your winter park splurge. Staff was nice and helpful. My husband and I ate here for the first time for his birthday celebration. The food was good but the atmosphere was sub standard especially after seeing the bill(thus the reason for 3 stars). The waiter was very unfriendly and seemed to care less about the customers. The hostess also seemed to be in an other world. We felt like they couldn't wait for us to eat and go home so they could too. The place is a little self- important. We are not often in this part of Colorado, but when we come back to Tabernash Colorado we will not eat at the Tabernash Tavern. read more

You will be hard pressed to find a better dining experience in Grand County! The service is the exact opposite of what you get in most mountain towns....it is superb. BTW- We've been here several times and had great service and food. So bummed. We showed up as walk in's. Just finished an awesome round of golf and we're so excited to come to have dinner with my wonderful in laws. They greeted us walking in the door, sat us at a back room table. We watched as they sat another foursome behind us a couple minutes later. We sat there for at least 15 minutes watching the other table get their drinks and order their food before being approached by the server. Never even knowledges or a nod of the head. My hubby put a two minute timer on his watch and said, "we're leaving if no one comes to take our drink orders!" I tried to wave at the server several times and her back was towards us every time. Very bummed. As we walked past the front door I told them the issue. They did offer us a complimentary drink but, it was too late. We were ready to spend some $$$. Small little place with a bunch of character. Hostess and waiter were great with awesome service. I got the 16oz ribeye which was delicious, however.... it was not a 49$ steak. I'm not sure if the prices are inflated because it's location next to the ski resorts and they can get away with these prices but hoooo leee cowww. The steak tasted like every other great ribeye I've had but those were 20$ cheaper. Anyway, great place if you want to drop some cash. If not just head to the Grand Park strip. read more

I love this place! It has always been one of my favorites since it opened. The ambience, food, selection of wines & beers and the staff, have always been great! As we all know, this is not a 5 star restaurant in downtown New York City but to me and many people, it is 5 stars to us and fits perfectly here is Grand County! I have always highly recommened it to all our visitors and almost every one of them come back telling me what a great dining experience they had. This place is OK but we felt the prices were high. Examples - Filet $49, (are we in New York City?) Burger $16 and then $2 for each add-ons such as cheese, fried onions, beets, etc., manhattan drink $14, Apple pie $10/ slice. Just seems a little pricey but then there are not a great deal of places to eat in the area. The service was great, the atmosphere is cool, and it looks like an old saloon from the outside. Others in the area must enjoy it. It was fully booked and they weren't taking any walk-ins - no reservation - no dining there. If you don't mind the price, it is the place for you! read more

Beyond all expectations is the only thing that you can say about the Tabernash Tavern...service was too notch, and the food was beyond better than michellin star restaurant s that I have eaten at. I had the chicken tois, and my wife had the Berkshire porkchop...both dishes as well as the mudslide pie dessert were astonishingly good. Avoid at all costs. I'm not sure what the positive reviews are seeing in this place, but the restaurant we saw served us overpriced and lackluster food. They didn't know how to cook a burger medium (they served rare), which isn't a forgivable mistake when you're charging $16. I accidentally ordered the beet burger, a vegetarian option, because I thought it was a hamburger with beets. The server corrects it then charges an extra $8 for it! Also, both myself and another person in our party received burgers that were grossly over seasoned to the extant that they were almost inedible. The service itself and atmosphere of the place were fine, but the culinary mistakes were amateur and insulting. I would advise you to take your hard earned money elsewhere. read more

Stopped here after a fun day in the mountains which we were dressed for (sweatshirts, ball caps, blue jeans). We got the "do you have reservations?" at the door. Seriously? 8p on Sunday? The hostess managed to find us a table. Lucky us. The waiter apparently felt we were not up to HIS standards. Slow, slow service...had to ask twice for my beer...and food was just meh. Absolutely terrible. The burger bun was like a shoe and the mussels were like chunks of a tire swimming in a bath of garlic.

We visited the TT again last night and it'll prob be our last visit. The service was barely marginally ok. We sat at our table for some time before we could order drinks. The restaurant had open tables so we believe they were simply short staffed. We ordered the wild meatball with venison and boar and expected it to be different... But for $16 it was like a regular meatball. I ordered salmon but was served scallops. They were quite good But when the bill came I was charged for the scallops... which was more expensive. Not charged for the entrée that I ordered? My friends steak... was extremely undercooked. Our party all agree that the wine and entree's are very over priced. Dinner for 4 with 1 app, 5 drinks, 4 entree and no dessert was ~$250. Temp in the restaurant was variable.. we were cold one minute and too hot the next. I expect when a restaurant charges top dollar that the service, the food the and atmosphere should be quality through and through. read more

Just go! Words don't quite capture the experience. It is everything: the architectural setting; the friendly, on-the-ball staff (wouldn't be the same without the head of the house, Shari, and the best bartender I know, Alicia on the weekends); and, of course, the food by Chef Al! While the food was truly some of the best I've had in all of Colorado, the service was so bad that it was laughable. It is the only time that i have ever been kicked out of a restaurant before ordering dessert because we were at the table for too long! We were there as a party of 12 with a 5:15 reservation. Getting drinks took over 20 minutes and it took another 20 to take our orders. Once we got our food, we certainly ate at a leisurely pace as you may expect with a large group. Imagine our surprise when, at 7:45, we were asked to leave. The waiter told us that we had been there for over 3 hours and it was our fault because we took so long to order. Needless to say, we were more than a little annoyed. When we complained to the manager, she first denied sending the waiter over to kick us out. Then she offered to give us dessert in the bar. By that time it was too late. Finally, our bill came. Unfortunately, the bill had our happy hour drinks at full price. We asked for them to correct it which took them 20 minutes (interesting, considering that they needed the table so badly). Some of us stayed for a complimentary drink in the bar but it was too little too late to save the night. It was such a shame that poor management spoiled such a delicious dinner. read more

Chef Alberto hit another one out of the park, with a few errors. It's really incredible to me to find a dining experience of this quality at a place this remote. I used to live in Tabernash, and I think it's fair to say, as Gertrude Stein did, there's no there there. But the Tavern is worth the trip, with a few minor quibbles. The bread wasn't too good. After one look at the menu prices you're expecting hot, fresh baked bread. It wasn't. Not the best start to our dinner. They were out of my first choice of wine (disappointed) but they had my second choice, a "Layer Cake" shiraz that everybody liked. We ordered two bottles and the wine service was just right. Things got rolling with our appetizers, buffalo carpaccio and lobster rolls. The little lobster andwiches were delicious and I got a big chunk of lobster meat in mine that sang with the kind of intense, fresh flavor that was missing the last time i ordered lobster right here on the east coast. A very pleasant surprise indeed. The buffalo carpaccio held its own too, but the meat was shaved beyond paper thin, which I thought brought the dish down. Others at the table disagreed and we had a lively debate on how thin the buffalo should be shaved. Of our four entrees, two were home runs: my "meat lover's" parilla platter and also the buffalo short ribs with gnocchi. Our two companions who ordered Colorado lamb chops and lamb tostadas were satisfied but not as ecstatic. One thought his chops were fatty; the other thought his were a little undercooked. When this was brought to the attention of our waiter, who had been quite attentive up to that point, he sort of dropped us off at the bus stop. But in fairness two of the four chops in question had already been eaten, so it was sort of a grey area. Anyway at that point he seemed to sense we were a tougher-than-usual crowd, and he never asked us how everything was. That's big points off, we all agreed. Tip went from 20 to 15 percent right there, and that's where it stayed. Unfortunate too, because otherwise he was a fine waiter. But at these prices, ($250 for dinner for four with two bottles of wine, two apps, and one dessert) I want my waiter to be a consummate professional, who can master the delicate art of being a liaison between us diners and the chef. A dessert of some sort of lemon and blueberry tart was off-the-charts rich and delicious. One portion was almost enough for the whole table to share, since we were already pretty stuffed from our oversized entrees. Overall the experience left a lasting impression that will not fade soon. read more

While visiting Granby, Colorado, we drove past, and subsequently read a few reviews on the Tabernash Tavern. The main focus of the menu was steaks, and figured given that it was their focus that they would have an understanding how to properly cook meat. I ordered my filet medium-rare, and when it arrived there was no pink whatsoever; the steak was cooked well. I rarely send food back, but this was a thirty-plus dollar entree. We couldn't find our waitress so I had to ask another server to please find her. When she arrived she agreed that the steak was not even close to medium-rare and would have another steak prepared. Unfortunately, it took twenty minutes for new entree to arrive, which meant that my wife and I didn't eat together. It would have been a nice gesture had they offered us a dessert or discount for the situation, but no; they didn't seem to care. read more

Our second meal at the Tabernash Tavern during our brief stays in Winter Park, CO. This gem is hidden in a town (?) of lumber yards and junk yards just east of Frasier. The vintage building can easily be missed, but it would be a mistake to pass it by. The food is creative, delicious, with a lovely presentation. Great wine. Lamb, steak and hunter's kebobs. My sister has been here before and loved it. We went for happy hour and I was SO impressed. We had the lamb fondue - so unique and tasty! Then we split the mussels prepared with vodka and tomato sauce. So succulent! Great gin and tonics and superb service. read more

Make yourself a reservation. It is totally.worth.it. My husband and I took a getaway to our friends' vacation home in Tabernash and made it a point to eat at this adorable spot that came so highly recommended. We shared (since the portions are extremely generous) Lisa's spinach salad and the buffalo short rib stroganoff. I told my husband that it is becoming more and more rare to eat something at a restaurant that I couldn't execute better in my own kitchen -- the food exceeded our expectations, to the max. We were at the Tabernash Tavern last night for dinner. We mostly ordered salads and burgers. The Caesar salad comes deconstructed and is delicious! The dressing is somewhat spicy. The kid's chicken tenders looked yummy. I had The Burger. I wanted to try the antelope burger, but the regular burger sounded too good to pass up. It was cooked perfectly and came with a spicy pickle and really good fries. I got mushrooms on top; they were soooo good! However, the service was pretty slow (it was a Monday night), and it's a pricey place. Even though they have some really appetizing things in the menu, it generally seemed overpriced. read more

The hubby and I spent a long weekend in Grand Lake for a wedding and Tabernash Tavern was where we decided to kick our weekend off. After reading all the reviews about the scary hostess, we were so relieved to be greeted by a smiling young lady who was more than happy to show us to our reserved table and did not place any time restraints on our dinner. The atmosphere is adorable! It's like a cozy little ski shack with lots of ski (and other) antiques and memorabilia, but not overly kitschy. Casual rustic elegance is how I would define this space. Very comfortable and a precursor to the comforting choices on the menu. Our waiter brought out a basket of the most delicious fresh baked rye bread and banana bread while we looked over the menu. There were wine recommendations with each item on the menu, which I always appreciate and find helpful. I ordered Lisa's Filet which was a very nice sized and perfectly medium-rare filet mignon served on a sizzling platter with shrimp scampi, pan roasted fingerling potatoes, brussels sprouts and grape tomatoes and a side of Bearnaise sauce. The Bearnaise was on the thick side and not very flavorful so I was glad that it was served on the side as I did not find that the steak needed any such adornment. I also ordered the wine that was recommended as a match on the menu and found it to be very nicely paired. The hubby ordered fresh tagliatelle with wild boar ragu and it was out of this world! The sauce was thick and earthy with a good dose of fennel. The noodles were obviously freshly made and the perfect texture to carry that big bold sauce. I kept sniping bites off of his plate and ended up bringing half of my dinner back to the condo. We loved our dinner at the Tabernash Tavern and can't wait to come back this summer! read more
