I've been wanting to try this spot for months. I've been missing meat lately and wanted a place…read morethat could pull off that rich, savory flavor. Vegan food doesn't automatically mean healthy, and that's fine by me--I just wanted really tasty food that breaks the stereotype that vegan joints can't hit the spot. Vegetarian/Vegan Friendly: 100% vegan! Decor: Loved the vibe--super nice and cozy. You could easily do a date night here. Portion Size: Decent portions, but being in DC, the prices were definitely steep. Service: Overall not bad. Wish they paid a tiny bit more attention at times, but really not a big deal. Price: On the expensive side, so it's definitely a place you have to budget for. Would I Go Back? Absolutely. Very tasty, with a solid menu and desserts that leave you wanting to come back for more.

We ate there and the chicken Parmesan sandwich along with the focaccia cheese bread and dip were phenomenal. We got a Caesar salad with chik'n for dinner later that night, which was outstanding. We also planned ahead and got two sandwiches for the plane ride home along with two cannolis, a peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake slice, and a chocolate chip cookie. Everything was absolutely incredible. Love the way that this place actually got veganism and was not only sharing literature and information, but spreading the good word online and are living examples of true compassion! We will be back!

Look, I enjoy my animal proteins quite a lot thankyouverymuch, but I have earnestly been transitioning to a more plant-forward diet due to a number reasons (hey, probably the same as yours!). Mosty I admire how the best plant-based chefs can make their recipes flavorful and filling...because it's literally more difficult from a scientific point of view (glutamates, etc.)! Over the course of two lunches and dinner offered by Simply Vegan, I can say that Nikevia really topped the charts in terms of wonderful vegan chefs. The multi-course menus were hearty, fresh, FLAVORFUL and delicious without feeling heavy at all. She had a wonderful touch with flavored waters (yes, she even flavors them better than anyone I've known!) and personal service. I very much hope that I find the occasion to have her cater an event that I organize! Or, at the very least, that others will take this review as a serious endorsement of her cooking chops. Please consider this wonderful chef and her company for your next event. Thank you, Nikevia!!

The food was lovely and paired so well with drinks and the whole experience. Service impeccable and it's such a cute restaurant. The restaurant really shows that you don't need meat to have a gourmet meal. Definitely will be back!!

Great Tasting Menu, but overpriced! (4.25/5)…read more Food - (2/2). I want to emphasize that though I'm giving 2/2 for the food, not everything was hitting out of the ball park. Also, for the price, it definitely left me hanging across the board. The full tasting menu started well with the smoke to bring you into the little villages of Latin America. The mini corn topped with a fragrant spread of tiny popcorn throws some inception corn flavor that blends well with the seasoning. The accompanying roll is perfect contrast to add some spice to the starter. The finish to the first course was an interesting fermented drink that just made sure the pallet was neutralized before the drinks and next courses. The next course (Arepas) was the highlight of the day for both my wife and I. The trio of sauces were unique. One was savory, another spicy, and one that was sweet. It came with 5 little tiny "breads" though they seemed to be for little kids than adults. Luckily, the sauces were so good, you could eat them all by themselves. These were definitely the highlight for us however, we couldn't even fill our stomachs with it even if we got 20 of these breads. Another unique dish (Ceviche Nikkei) we had and liked was the fusion between Asian flavors and Latina flavors. Pickled veggies on top of soy flavored watermelon soup base created a mixture that actually works well. The Tamal and Gnocchi were great as well. Overall, I enjoyed the unique flavors and the journey the chef takes us to across different Latin cuisines that vegans don't generally get to experience. That said, the desert ice cream seemed like an afterthought. There was more of sour flavor than sweetness in the shaved ice. Non-alcoholic drinks pairing (0.25/1) When we picked paired drinks with our meal I was looking forward to some variety of wines and cocktails or even beer. However, I was a bit underwhelmed with wine selections and that too with the quantity again. Very little variety and quantity in the drinks section. To me the value didn't match with the cost. Service (1/1) As a renowned Michelin star restaurant, you expect the service to be amazing. Though it didn't go above and beyond, the service was as you would expect from them. Decor (0.75/1) The dining room itself was cozy, close to the chef where you can watch them do their magic, and also close to the bar where you could order some great cocktails. The place was subtle and not too loud, the mood and lighting was perfect for a date. Overall, I liked the food, the service, and the place. However, for this much of a cost, I didn't come out filling satisfied and truly had to get 2-3 slices from Andy's right next door. It was a good experience overall though.

Updated Review (previously 5 stars) due to poor management response:…read more Management has changed since my last visit, and boy, this place is not what it used to be, and that makes me sad. About four years ago, I happily gave this restaurant 5 stars and recommended it to others. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was the complete opposite. During my meal, I discovered ANTS actively crawling around my food. (See video) It was disturbing to watch them around the sauce next to my meal, and I immediately stopped eating because I no longer felt comfortable consuming the rest of it. What disappointed me even more was how management handled the situation afterward. It was extremely difficult to get in touch with the manager despite multiple attempts. When I finally spoke with him, he refused to provide a refund because more than 30 days had passed since my visit. Given the nature of the complaint and the difficulty I had reaching management, I found that response completely unreasonable. I also raised concerns about being asked questions during my visit that made me feel racially stereotyped. Those concerns were never acknowledged or addressed by management, which only added to my disappointment. Because I believed this was a legitimate food safety issue, I filed a complaint with the Fairfax County Health Department. After investigating, the inspector informed me that they visited the restaurant, discussed my concerns with the manager, and that the manager confirmed my reported ant sightings. The Health Department also required additional pest control measures. Beyond the service issues, I also noticed a significant decline in the food. The wonton soup was bland and lacked the rich flavor I remembered, and the General Tso's Surprise tasted off and was missing the depth and spice that used to make it one of my favorite dishes. This restaurant used to be one of my favorite vegetarian spots, which is why writing this review is so disappointing. Based on my recent experience, the difficulty in getting in touch with management, and their total lack of customer service or care for loyal customers, I can't recommend dining here. They do not care about their customers based on how I was treated.

I asked our server if I could have tofu in the sushi roll instead of the fake shrimp and he just simply said no. No explanation. Later I asked if I could have gluten free noodles in the lo mein and he also just said "no". My dad asked if they could lower the lights a bit and also - no. Zero accommodation. The food was not good, simply put. Waiter didn't bring out any birthday candle for me either. I was excited to try this place out and unfortunately it was not for me. I would look past the heat and the lack of accommodations if the food actually tasted good. Sorry :/
